We had a three night stay at Mayar Bhan in March. The house is fantastic. Everything is in great order. The kitchen is well equipt with everything you can possibly need, and plenty for six people. The setting of the house is great, with lovely views over the bay (especially the bedrooms upstairs) and close to walks and local beaches. The addition of the wood burning stove was great for the chilly evenings but 5 minutes of sun during the day and the house is super warm. Neil was great-lots of tips of where to eat etc though we used to live there so didnt use them, but great for folk who do not know the area. My one suggestion for improvement would be that some information added to the visitor folder, on the eco side of the house would be very interesting. It would have been good to learn more about it. All in all a great trip and stay-already looking to book again for later in the year.

"We were so impressed on our first visit that we had to return."
Mayar Bhan enjoys an outstanding location overlooking Gruinard Bay with views from the lounge window over 30 miles to Suilvan and way beyond to the mighty hills of the far North West. Closer to hand is An Teallach which is easily within cycling and walking distance. For the less energetic, or if the weather is inclement, there are numerous coastal and low level walks in the Glens; not forgetting the World Famous Inverewe Gardens which are open all year.
Mayar Bhan is an extremely well appointed house which is warm and comfortable whatever the weather. It is immaculately clean and fresh and everything works and performs just as it should. However it is the attention to small details which I found impressive: for example there are a pair of insulated gauntlets provided to facilitate loading the woodstove; there is a customised 1:50,000 Ordnance Survey Map for guest use; and last but by no means least a drawer with board games and jigsaws to keep everyone entertained.

Mayar Bhan is a modern "Grand Design" style house maintained to a VERY high standard with all the utilities and a panoramic view to die for, Owner could not be more helpful. A great experience overall.

"Stunning property set in a stunning location"
For once I am left almost speechless. However, I will manage to say that Mayar Bhan is a beautiful property situated in a stunning location over looking Gruinard Bay. The house has huge floor to ceiling windows in the lounge over looking the bay and a large conservatory hall/dining area to the front the combination of both floods the building with light during the day. Equally if you're eating dinner and its dark you can see up to the stars in the conservatory. The kitchen is well equipped, the lounge has a log burning stove, the bedrooms with en suites were spotlessly clean and there's plenty of bedding, towels etc. There is also a utility area with sink, fridge, freezer, w/machine & tumble dryer.
Another thing I really liked about the house is that it's very simply decorated and with simple minimal furnishings, this added to the whole feel of space and calm in the buliding and it all works very well

"The best holiday rental I have ever experienced."
Neil was most helpful with information about the house and the area before I booked. The house is spotless and very well equipped and although there is TV etc there, we thought the view over Gruinard Bay much better viewing. We fell in love with Mayar Bhan the minute we opened the door. There is so much space and light and our abiding memory is the sense of tranquility we all felt. Mayar Bhan is a beautiful house in a beautiful part of Scotland, a perfect combination.

"5 star quality - cannot be faulted"
We usually use self-catering accommodation as we find it more flexible with small children and Mayar Bhan is one of the best places we have ever stayed. It really is a home from home - lots of living … More

This is a truly superb modern, spacious and airy property situated amongst the most beautiful coastline scenery in Scotland.
Like a previous reviewer, we are incredibly fussy in choosing holiday accommodation – it's got to be perfect on paper but it's still always a worry until you arrive and see it for real. This was our second stay in this fabulous house and we've already booked for next year so need we say more! It's worth every mile of the 700 mile journey from Surrey to stay in such a gorgeous home and beautiful location. If only we could win the lottery and prise it out of the owner's grasp!
Three of us stayed here with each of us in our own en-suite room. There are outstanding views over the sea and Summer Isles from both main bedrooms and the lounge area. Although there are plenty of beautiful places to visit, it's a place you'd be equally as happy to stay at home. It's excellently equipped and everything is spotlessly clean and really well cared for. The downstairs room is ideal for someone with disabilities (there is wheelchair access) or who is infirm and cannot manage the stairs. There is also a large, well-maintained garden with large area of lawn and decking, all overlooking that wonderful view.
There are all the usual facilities that many have come to expect of quality holiday homes such as a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer but there's also wifi access (hoorah!), FreeSat TV and a DVD so everything is catered for.
Neil, the owner, keeps in touch via email to ensure everything is fine, and is easily contactable should there be any problems (we didn't have any). It is obvious from the attention to detail and the way the house is presented that Mayar Bhan is not just regarded as a holiday house for rental income but rather that Neil and his family love it as a home too.

"Breathtakingly fantastic with nobs on"
The house was fantastic and even better than described, the views were amazing and changed by the hour, Neil's communication with us was first class and the list of things to do was invaluable. You really wont get better than this no matter how long you look, pure 5 Star. Recommendations would be Mellon Udrigle beach, Sea trip from Gairloch, kayaking with Ewecanoe and a visit to a 2nd World War plane crash site not far from Mellon Udrigle, very moving. No need to leave the house to eat the kitchen is fantastic and has all the utensils you will ever need, garden is fantastic and great for running around, football, cricket etc etc. Didn't watch the TV once so might as well take it away far too much to do.

"Try it - just try it!"
It may seem a long way away from where you stay but Inverness to Mayar Bhan is just over an hour by car, Edinburgh or Glasgow to Inverness is three hours and it's nice country to travel through. Or fly or take the train to any of those cities and hire a car. It really is worth the hassle, and the time it takes to get there.
The house is architecturally superb and is sited on a gentle hill overlooking Gruinard Bay and the islands in the bay. Sunrises to your right, ladies and gentlemen, sunsets to the left. The owner, Neil Watson, is meticulous; the house is very comprehensively equipped and everything works. On the rare occasions something goes wrong it is fixed very quickly (the area experienced a power surge on Bank Holiday Saturday, fuses blew and an electrician was there within an hour and a half to check things over)
If you are a fan of Portobello or Blackpool or Brighton, or cities, forget Mayar Bhan! This part of the world is for slowing down, talking to people, enjoying beautiful but quiet beaches, watching the sea, looking at mountains, looking at bird (34 different species of birds we recognised) and animal life, and enjoying (you have to be able to laugh and enjoy it!) up to four seasons of weather in a day.
Neil will inform you of current local events, and things to do (adults and kids), places to see, places to eat, how to get out on the water and you'll get ideas too, from what other residents have written in the guest book. There's even a Mayar Bhan personal Ordinance Survey map to use.
Yes, I'm biased, yes, I love it, and yes, my wife and I are going back...
