“Spectacular and spooky views from this wind swept and scenic cottage!” This cottage sells itself on the fabulous location! It is basic, but has all the essentials! Given the gale force wind and wintery weather during our stay, we were very warm and there was plenty of hot water! The fire provided additional heat which we had to use when the heating broke, but, don't worry, a sterling response from the owner and local engineer meant we were back up within 3hrs of reporting the problem - no complaints from us! My only real problem is that I think it is a bit of a squeeze for 6 if you aren't able to utilise the balcony. Also no internet service despite the wi-fi presence was disappointing, but owner was between providers at this time. Would love to revisit in the summer as beach was very inviting. Recommend 'Wicker's World' café near Wick harbour (wholesome and generous portions!) and the Wick Museum. Can also recommend high end meal option at The Mackays Hotel - even catered for vegans!
“A pristine cottage in a good location” Kinross is a very well presented holiday cottage set in a large garden adjacent to the owner's home. The property is ideal for a solo traveller or couple and the second bedroom, although small, could accommodate another adult or two children. The owners were helpful but not intrusive and arranged a WiFi connection to the bungalow for a small fee, which was a very useful. Kinross was comfortable, well equipped and cosy. The location on the edge of Halkirk village was quiet with open views across farmland to the front and local facilities such as the shop and pub within walking distance.
“Don't miss a great stay at Meall Dubh” Meall Dubh is a traditional croft cottage which has been beautifully renovated. It is well maintained and clean and has a great layout with wonderful views of the coastal and mountain scenery of Assynt. The cottage's warmth and comfort is a delight to return to at the end of a day of walking or touring the countryside. There are many wonderful places to visit whether you like walking or driving. Just a short drive away are the beautiful sandy beaches of Achmelvich and Clachtoll as well as other hidden beaches. Just along the road to the Stoer Lighthouse and the Old Man of Stoer or into Lochinver where you can walk River Inver and Glencanisp circuit are but two of many walks in the area. A meal at the Kylesku Hotel is also a great way to end the day after perhaps a trip to Handa Island. We have visited this rugged and awesome part of Scotland three times staying at Meall Dubh and would highly recommend it so that you too can experience all it has to offer.
