"good accommodation but unhelpful owner"

Nice place to stay, but owner claimed damage to kitchen bin, which we were certain was not the case, It was in the same condition when we left as when we arrived. No evidence or information on the dam… More

Thanks for your comments. We're glad you liked the property and its location but were sorry to hear you weren't completely satisfied with the service. The caretaker of this property has worked at the house for a number of years, and knows it and its contents well. She reported the Brabantia bin damaged at the end of your stay and it was also noted at this time that there was some staining to a leather-topped bedside table. Fortunately, through the efforts of the caretaker, it was possible to save the bedside table, but sadly the bin was beyond repair. The caretaker is absolutely certain the damage occurred during the period of your stay and consequently we informed you that it would be necessary to pay for a replacement. This was less than the price advertised on the Brabantia website and in line with many national retailers. We do ask that guests take responsibility for any damage which they may cause, it is after all unfair for holiday home owners and/or other guests to have to cover the cost of another party's accidents. We're sorry if you feel that the home owner should have accepted your word over that of his long-standing employee, but rather than the caretaker dishonestly trying to acquire a new bin, is it not possible that one of the 15 varied party members who holidayed with you may have accidentally damaged the bin and neglected to mention it, as was the case with the stains to the leather-topped table? You're absolutely right in your assertion that we cannot arbitrate in these matters; without having seen the damaged items before and after the event, it would be impossible for us to comment. However, we do all we can to resolve any problems that arise to the satisfaction of all involved and will happily speak to home owners on your behalf, if this is preferable to you. Best wishes, Helpful Holidays
