Very Good

“A beautiful cottage, in a wonderful situation with easy access to the delights of West Cornwall.”

Reviewed 14 Apr 2017

The cottage was spotless with very thoughtful touches such as the provision of biscuits, milk and tea and coffee together with dishwasher tablets. It was an 'upside down' cottage with the living room, kitchen and access to the garden on the top floor. This resulted in wonderful views, from these rooms, of the sea and the sunset and it was lovely having dinner looking out to the sea and waiting for the sunset. The seats, sofas and beds were very comfortable and the general furnishing was excellent. We went with my son, daughter in law and grandchildren and there was something to do for everybody and, although I said the place was spotless, the furniture and floor coverings were sensible and we didn't have to be concerned about what the 5 and 7 year olds were doing because any little spills could be easily cleaned up. The location of the cottage was also excellent with a 10 minutes walk to the small harbour village with plenty of pubs and eating places. It was also close enough to visit the Lizard, Penzance and the mines on the North Coast Coast. Slightly further was the Minack Theatre and the bays of West Cornwall. Altogether a wonderful base for looking at the West of Cornwall. We did have some minor questions to ask the owner and they responded within hours by email, which is reassuring, so we're now trying to work out the time of the next visit. If you're looking for a place to act as a base for West Cornwall I don't believe that there are any better than this cottage.

“Well equipped cosy house.”

Reviewed 19 Sep 2016

The house is a mid terrace, with living area upstairs, so that you can still enjoy the lovely view across Mounts Bay over the roofs of the houses opposite. As well as being able to see the sea, you can also hear it, and we found this very relaxing. Downstairs, there is a large entrance hall, double bedroom, shower room and games room, which also houses a washing machine and tumble drier. Upstairs there are double and twin bedrooms, bathroom, living room, and kitchen, well equipped with saucepans and a wide variety of serving dishes, glasses, utensils etc. The drive is quite steep, and we found there was less risk of grounding if we approached it from the top of the hill-a shorter car may not need to do this. The garden at the back is very pretty, but is also on a steep hill, so has been terraced, with steps between the three levels, Because of this, children would need close supervision. However, the garden is a sun trap, and a lovely place to enjoy a glass of something. It took us around 15 minutes to walk into Porthleven, where we bought beautiful fresh fish from Quayside Fish, delicious fish and chips from Top Chippy, and enjoyed a meal at Rick Stein. Porthleven also has a number of craft and gift shops to browse. There were only three of us staying on this occasion, but the property would be comfortably accommodate six. We loved the house, and the area, and hope to return one day
