From the owner

Halfway House, a former 17th century toll house, is located at Clappersgate, close to Skelwith Bridge and within 1.5 miles of Ambleside. This detached house is set just off the road in a wonderful riverside location and just a short way from the entrance to the Langdale Valley. The house is located close to Grasmere, Keswick, Windermere, Hawkshead and Bowness to name a few.

It has an abundance of activities within close proximity. A footpath directly opposite the house takes you over Loughrigg to Ambleside in about 30 mins or you could join a network of further footpaths that include routes to Grasmere, Elterwater etc. Alternatively it is advisable to drive the 5 mins to Ambleside rather than walk along the road as there are sections without a footpath. Taxis are available. The River Brathay flows past the end of the large garden so you might choose to canoe or fish. The recently refurbished house is tastefully furnished and boasts lovely Lakeland views across the River Brathay or towards the Langdale Peaks, it is a much sought-after location.

To the ground floor there is a large, well-equipped, kitchen/dining area. Views can be enjoyed through the french windows or from the raised decking area. There is a lounge with an oak-beamed ceiling and original inglenook fireplace with log burner. It has three large settees, Sky TV with a variety of channels and Wi Fi with unlimited access. There is also a newly refurbished family suite consisting of a king size bedroom with an oak-beamed vaulted ceiling and a feature arch window, a bedroom with bunkbeds and a shower room with toilet and basin.

Upstairs there are 2 more bedrooms and a separate bathroom with a bath and hand-held shower over. One bedroom has a king size bed with built-in wardrobes, the other is a twin bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe.

The outdoor space includes parking for up to three cars, raised decking with furniture and gated gardens leading to a large lawn which in turn leads onto the River Brathay.

Pets are welcome by request there is a small charge of £20 per dog

How do damage deposits work?

In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.

How do I edit my booking?

You can request to change the dates or number of people on your booking via the Manage your holiday booking page. To change your holiday dates use the Edit booking button. If you need to change the number of guests staying then send Amanda and James (the owner) a message.

If Amanda and James (the owner) agrees, they’ll send you a revised quote outlining the changes. You can review and accept/decline this from the Manage your holiday booking page. You’ll have 48 hours to take action before the revised quote expires.
