Location description from owner

The England region

Bodmin Moor is a unique upland where more than 10,000 acres of unspoilt open moor has provided unfettered grazing for ponies, sheep and cattle for more than 6000 years. The sense of freedom that comes from being amongst this remote and most beautiful of areas adds to the richness of the holiday experience and makes a startling contrast with the nearby North Cornish Coast.

Tranquil, remote and romantic, the ancient moor is a timeless place where it is easy to find peace away from the modern world. Climb the summit of Brown Willy and you have literally left the 21st Century behind.

The rugged boulder-strewn tors have changed little over the centuries. The sense of freedom and the fascination with the wildlife, particularly to those who lead busy city lives, is immediately striking.

The closest village to East Rose is St Breward. Located right on the edge of Bodmin Moor, it provides the perfect retreat for families with many great places for a picnic, and endless amounts of freedom for children and dogs!

In complete contrast to the moor, yet so readily accessible, the superb North Cornish Coast offers everything you would expect from one of the most spectacular coastlines in the country; rugged cliffs, intimate sandy coves, sheltered harbours, fishing villages and beautiful open beaches. Tintagel, Port Isaac, Boscastle and Padstow are all within a gentle thirty minute drive from East Rose.

To many, it is Tintagel, just seven miles from East Rose as the crow flies, that conjures up the spirit of North Cornwall; the spectacular Castle combined with the magical Arthurian Legend set against the backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean.

To walk along some of the open, white, sandy beaches such as Rock, Daymer Bay, Harlyn Bay and Polzeath or to spend an afternoon in the intimacy of Bossiney or Lundy Coves is a holiday experience that will always linger in the memory.

“Cozy Cottage in a Tranquil Setting”

Reviewed 13 May 2015

Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable hosts working tirelessly to maintain their unique, historic property while at the same time ensuring our complete satisfaction. The accommodation was spare but comfortable, quiet; the kitchen was well equipped (we cooked great meals). Our only complaint - the laundry equipment needs upgrading - washer is incredibly slow and time consuming (don't use a front loader - it wouldn't work for a family). Scenery was ruggedly picturesque. Directions were spot on but the roads (such as they were) made access difficult and an unpleasant end to otherwise very interesting and enjoyable day trips. North Americans will find it very difficult.

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay at East Rose. Matthew and I are glad you had such an enjoyable time in Cornwall and at East Rose. Sorry to hear you had trouble with the laundry facilities. This hasn't been mentioned by anyone before, but now you have raised it we will ensure we do look into it. There is a quick wash facility on the machine, so we will make sure that is clearly visible to users. Many thanks once again.

“A very well maintained cottage run by really very nice couple...had a pleasant stay!”

Reviewed 11 Apr 2015

We were 4 families with 3 kids and we all had a great time. The cottages were very family friendly, very well maintained, the couple running the cottage are very nice and helpful. They have maintained the entire place really very well. The cottage is also located at pretty convenient location (quite close to most tourist attractions). There are no shops close-by but, we did not feel the need for them. Also, there are superstores that do deliveries to the cottage! I would definitely consider this cottage if I am travelling to Cornwall again

Thank you very much for your review; we are pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay at East Rose and hope to see you again at some point.

“Very quiet peaceful location ideal for walking breaks”

Reviewed 19 Aug 2013

The cottage was quite small, smaller than expected as of photos on booking, but was ok for the week with one dog. The fridge was a little noisey and was very noticeable being a small property, but no smoke alarm? Ideal location for walking on the moors with a lovely small river and stone bridge nearby. Couldn't park next to cottage to unpack/ pack - car park and carry system. Very friendly owners. Horse riding stable about 1 mile away. Cottage has lakes with footpaths for walking and fishing.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us at Rose Cottage, East Rose. We were pleased to hear that you enjoyed our area and the local walks. We are sorry to hear that not everything met your expectations. We would like to offer the following response: 1. Cottage size - We advertise Rose Cottage as 'Rose is a cosy one bedroom cottage set within the 17 acre, seven cottage site of East Rose'. We also have photos of every room giving the best indication of size. We do feel this gives an honest impression of the cottage. 2. Noisy Fridge - We are very sorry that the fridge was noticeable in the background. We would have been more than happy to replace this for you had you mentioned it to us during one of the many times we spoke during your holiday. 3. Smoke Alarm - All our holiday cottages have mains wired smoke alarms with the exception of Rose and Stable which have battery operated alarms. Unfortunately, during the previous week to your holiday, the battery operated alarms were removed without us knowing. This has been addressed. 4. Car Parking - We offer peace and tranquility in a stunning setting on Bodmin Moor. Our car park has been specifically designed so that once parked, the cars on our site cannot be seen from anywhere else on the moor or within our site. There is a map of our site on the description of Rose clearly showing the location of our cottages to the car park. We always offer to assist our guests in moving their luggage and we also have a trolley available onsite.
