Porthminster

On 14th July 2007, The Guardian newspaper named the Cornish culture capital, St Ives, as its seaside town of the year. A star-studded panel of judges, including Bill Bryson, Rick Stein and John Betjeman's daughter, Candida Lycett Green, came to the decision after debating the pros and cons of 12 shortlisted coastal towns and cities from across Britain and Ireland. Stein, known worldwide as the patron of Padstow but who has been going to St Ives since his childhood, was one of many keen advocates of the town. "The thing I really love about St Ives is that it is on two beaches, so you get two aspects of the ocean, which makes it very romantic and quite unusual for a British resort. I think of it as the big brother of Padstow." St Ives also scored heavily for its rugged views, exhilarating clifftop walks, the good surf at Porthmeor Beach and, of course, its cultural offerings, with judges keen to note its burgeoning new art talent as well as the Tate Gallery (specialising in modern Cornish art) and the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden. Panel member Alastair Sawday declared, "I have a special love for St Ives...it has everything a seaside town needs". He went on to commend balmy beaches, great surf, fantastic fish, superb coastal walks and an infectious convivial buzz. Some lesser-known delights of St Ives that came up during the judging process include the regular appearances of basking sharks and seals, the delightful branch line railway link to St Erth, the delicious fish-and-chip takeaway downstairs at the Porthminster Café, and the curious tradition of "silver ball hurling" - during which a silver ball is thrown through the streets by children on Feast Monday in February.

“Fabulous apartment in a great location with great views”

Reviewed 6 Nov 2015

The apartment is in an excellent location with easy access to the centre of St Ives. The parking spot was particularly useful. You get fantastic sunrises and sunsets from the apartment windows and balcony along with the great views over the harbour. Mark , the owner, was very helpful and friendly and the welcome basket with Cornish produce was a nice touch. He went out of his way to make sure everything was ok for our stay. The apartment itself was spotless and very well maintained. It had everything you would need for a self catering stay. We didn't use the car for the whole of our stay since there is easy access to the Cornish coastal path both north and south. Mark also recommended a local pub for a bar lunch - very enjoyable after a coastal walk. We would thoroughly recommend the apartment for its amenities , location and views.

Thank you for your very kind comments and I don't think there are many properties in StIves where you get the sunrise and the sunset we are very fortunate!I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and lovely to have met you both and I hope to see you again sometime,Mark

“Fantastic views, lovely weather”

“Another brilliant relaxing holiday in Pednolver Appartment 4.”

Reviewed 8 Sep 2015

This was our 3rd visit to Pednolver Appmnt. 4 & the high-standard accommodation remains throughout! The weather was a bit hit-and-miss this year, however on the sunny days we relaxed on the brilliant balcony, and on the few colder nights the heating was perfect to warm-up the place quickly & effectively. This year we had our French Bulldog 'Beano' with us, and although the stairs initially made her nervous, she soon relaxed & felt at home. This year my partner Lyndsey & I also got married at The Guildhall, and Mark very kindly left us a greeting card & bottle of bubbly to help us enjoy our honeymoon in the 2nd week. A brilliant holiday home!

My pleasure once again Mr and Mrs A and Beano and I hope married life is the bliss that I have found it to be for the last 12 years!A married man was once told that married men live longer and the married man said ”No it just seems like you do” only joking of course.Hopefully see you again soon,Mark

“Fabulously situated apartment”

Reviewed 11 Jul 2015

What can I sat that hasn't been said on here before? Just spent two weeks in Apartment 4 and felt really at home. A place to relax and chill with all the comforts of home plus fabulous views. Really enjoyed chilling on the balcony with a glass of wine. We had one rainy morning but it didn't' matter...... Just curled up on the sofa.... Read a book and kept an eye on the weather from the window. Can't think of anywhere where you could have a shower with such a view! Thank you Mark for making us so welcome.

Thankyou for your very kind comments and I'm glad you felt at home as that is the atsmophere we hope to create in each of our apartments.I'm delighted you enjoyed your stay in Pednolver Apartment 4.It is amazing the amount of people that just curl up on the sofa and enjoy the amazing views I don't blame you!Lovely to have met you both and I hope to see you again sometime,Mark

“Another great week in apartment 4”

Perfect location with spectacular view from all the windows.. As its a penthouse apartment you must be able to negotiate slopes and steps. Mark caters for all ages.

Thankyou for your kind comments and I am glad you enjoyed your stay in Apartment 4 again and it was my pleasure to accommodate you both again and I hope to see you in 2016 or earlier and I very much look forward to seeing what car you drive down the next time you stay!all the best and have a great 2015.Mark

“Fantastic accommodation - clean, comfortable, stunning views.”

Reviewed 27 Jun 2015

Would recommend this very well equipped, dog friendly appartment, in the centre of beautiful St Ives. Probably not ideal for people with mobility problems as located on hill side and then steps to the top floor, but well worth the effort for the stunning views. Will definately return in the future.

Thankyou for staying at Pednolver Apartments and I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and thankyou for your very kind comments and I look forward to seeing you again soon,Mark

“A fine view, and fine apartment”

Reviewed 26 May 2015

I was told it was the best view in St Ives and I looked over the town all week and i concluded the claim was correct. A great view from every window. The apartment is spacious, clean and comfortable. Nice big sofas and Sky TV if you want it. Its location is right in town and seconds away from good eateries and a five minutes from the harbour. Lovley!

We are very fortunate with the position of our apartments that they all afford the best views StIves has and each window offers a different view and the view from the balcony of apt4 is absolutelt amazing!I look forward to seeing your wonderful painting when you have finished it and I look forward to seeing you and your good lady again soon,Mark

“Brilliant location, amazing apartment, would highly recommend”

Reviewed 27 Apr 2015

I would arguably say the apartment we stayed in (4) has some of the very best views in the whole of St Ives. We spent lots go time on the balcony looking out over the whole bay. Lovely apartment with some really nice well though out touches. Would highly recommend and we will be visiting again. Thanks for the warm welcome.

I would agree with your very kind comments and thankyou! and I'm glad you enjoyed your stay in Apartment 4 and I look forward to seeing you again,Mark

“Fabulous location, spectacular views, home from home.”

Reviewed 23 Apr 2015

We would definitely stay at Pednolver Apartments again. Not only because the location is less than 5 minutes walk from the main street, the views from the flat are second to none and it has everything you need, but also because Mark was so accommodating it made going away an absolute breeze. If you haven't been to St Ives before - get going!

Thankyou for your kind comments and I'm glad you enjoyed your stay in Apartment 4 and I hope to see you again soon,Mark

“Amazing views, perfect location”

Reviewed 1 Mar 2015

Just returned from a weekend at pednolver. Having already mentioned to Mark that it was one of our birthdays during our stay we were greeted by a bottle of champagne and a birthday card, which was lovely. The views from appartment 4 are amazing, even better than in the photos. The appartments are ideally located with in walking distance of all the shops, harbour and restaurants. The appartment is equipped with everything you may or may not need, from a baby buggy to hot water bottles. Will be looking to return in the summer, thanks mark :-)

Thankyou for your kind comments and I'm glad you enjoyed your stay in Apartment 4 and I hope to see you again sometime,Mark PS:glad you liked the champagne!!
