The Apartment sits in Primrose Valley, a seemingly private stretch of Victorian villas that rises above Porthminster Beach to overlook St. Ives harbour and the Atlantic Ocean. The accommodation was planned with discerning guests in mind. Originally part of a Victorian villa-style hotel, designer Alan McVitty has returned The Apartment to its former glory and added a contemporary twist. With custom furniture and hand-picked feature local pieces (including a massive chandelier from the house of a former mining captain), the interior offers the blend of comfort and style you might expect from the designer behind the interiors of the Queen Mary 2.

Sleeping four, The Apartment is well suited to couples, a small group of friends or a family of four who want to enjoy uninterrupted sea views and close proximity to Porthminster Beach and its highly commended Porthminster Cafe. The accommodation has room for a travel cot (can be hired) for families with an infant.

The Portminster Beach location is well suited to those who love the buzz of St. Ives but prefer to stay in a tranquil location with sweeping views and outside space.

The apartment is designed to accommodate four guests and has an internal area of 60 square metres (645 square feet) and an external terrace of 11 square metres (120 square feet).

• The Apartment does not accept pets and smoking inside is not permitted.

• Bookings are for seven nights in peak season and a minimum of three nights at others times.

• Weeks run from Saturday 3pm to Saturday 10am.

• The price quoted is never exceeded.

• One third of the cost is due at the time of booking and the balance plus a returnable security deposit are due six weeks prior to arrival

• Your security deposit is held on file in the form of a cheque and returned to you following departure. This deposit is £300 for bookings of seven nights or more and £200 for shorter breaks.

• Cancellation is subject to a 100% refund if notified six weeks or more before arrival. Otherwise, cancellations are subject to 0%. If the apartment is re-rented in the cancelled period, you will receive the rental price achieved less a £150 administration

Front bedroom: Art Nouveau wardrobe and divine 5ft bed. Minimalist en-suite with rain shower, Philippe Starck fittings and low-level Led night-lighting. French door leading directly onto the terrace with ocean and harbor views.

Rear bedroom: Dressing area with Ralph-Lauren style black dresser, 'zip-n-link' beds for flexible accommodation as twin beds or a king-size. Separate bathroom with low-level LED night-lighting, designer sink and dark Italian stone tiling.

Living area: Lounge: two engulfing wing chairs, sofa, reading lamps, antique chandelier, dark wood floors and light linen rug. High-end surround sound system with DVD, Sky HD, 32' LCD TV and cable to connect your i-Pod. Dining area: 4 contemporary black chairs at a table with harbor and ocean views. Kitchen area: Fully equipped with washer/dryer, dishwasher, microwave, electric cooker, fridge and freezer. Black granite counter tops and stainless appliances.

The Apartment has a dedicated parking space right in front. All bed linen and towels are provided. Just bring beach towels. Electricity, gas, water, parking, wireless internet included in the rental cost.


Further details outdoors

Both the main door of The Apartment and the front bedroom door open onto the terraces with faces north west toward the harbour and St. Ives bay.

On the terrace there are two wall-mounted outside lights, a dining table and four chairs. There is a double power socket on the terrace and the wireless internet signal on the terrace is of a good strength. The parking space is right in front of the apartment at the top of Primrose Valley. There is no through traffic.

St. Ives tennis club's ocean-facing tennis courts are located in front and below the apartment and can be booked for a nominal fee. There is a communal court yard garden behind the apartment with a drying line.

Guest may use the facilitates of the St. Ives Harbour Hotel spa for a charge of £15 per day or £29 per week. The spa is 2 minutes by foot and includes a pool, fitness room, hydrotherapy pool, sauna and steam room with views across St. Ives Bay.

Located in the far west of Great Britain on a peninsula tumbling into the vast Atlantic ocean, almost completely surrounded by the sea, a magnificent coastline wraps around Cornwall for almost 300 miles. Cornwall is also the location of mainland Great Britain's most southerly promontory, The Lizard, and one of the UK’s most westerly points, Land's End, while a few miles off shore and even further west is an archipelago of tiny islands that make up the Isles of Scilly.

What’s so special about it?

St Ives, the most famous of Cornish holiday towns, loved for generations, is easy to reach by road or by air and easy by train, too, along one of the most spectacular railway journeys in Britain to crystal blue waters, golden sands and a warm welcome. Life here is cradled around the harbour where boats still land good catches of freshest fish for the local restaurants to nourish you with. Take a leisurely walk along the coastal footpath, perhaps, south to Lelant with the opportunity to return by branch line train or opt for a more energetic hike west towards Zennor and Gurnards Head. Soak up the sounds and images of the mythical and rugged land. Paint, pencil and clay. St Ives is renowned for its art and rightly so as there are workshops, studios and galleries everywhere. Often you will find painters hurrying to finish a sketch before the light changes or before the waves wash their palettes away!

Tate st ives, part of the Tate Gallery in London, is a stunning building with a varying exhibition of local and national works, well worth a visit. The Gallery's inspirational building stands high above the magnificent surfing beach of Porthmeor and features exhibitions which represent the modern 'st ives School' of painters such as Peter Lanyon, Patrick Heron and Sir Terry Frost as well as a changing programme of other contemporary work. Allied to Tate St Ives is the Barbara Hepworth Museum, a lasting memorial to the great sculptress who lived and worked in st ives at her Trewyn Studio. Her workshop has been carefully preserved and made accessible; the gardens and house contain many examples of her work and some of her finest pieces.

Tall palms and exotic flowers bask in the sun, as you will, the air filled with scents from honeysuckle, cordyline and roses. The cafes and restaurants open their doors, the town comes alive and you'll find that St Ives has evolved into a cosmopolitan and chic resort. Enjoy the view across to Godrevy Lighthouse, immortalised by the novelist Virginia Woolf, or take a short boat trip to watch seals basking on the rocks in the sunshine. Finally, as the disappearing sun paints the sea and sky in glorious pink, it is time to plan what to do tomorrow. st ives has something that will appeal to everyone, young or old. “Autumn half term with the kids”

The perfect base for a family adventure in the half term holidays. The apartment was better than I imagined, was very clean and a great deal of thought had been put into the finer detail. i.e. Scrabble on the terrace, sand toys the kids (mine 3 and 6 year olds) to name a couple we enjoyed. Such a gorgeous view front the double bedroom when you wake in the morning. Loved this place, didn't want to leave.

“Lovely Apartment Right by the Beach”

The Apartment is located in just the right place for a great holiday by the beach. It is set back from the hustle and bustle but near enough to pop out with a young child to eat out in the evening. If you want to stay in, the kitchen has everything you need and more and the dining table located in the bay window gives you the best view in St Ives with its view of the harbour.
