“Cosy cottage with beautiful views”
Beck View Cottage is up the hill on the edge of Glenridding, the views are gorgeous and there's plenty to do on the doorstep. The cottage itself is cosy and had everything we needed, the main bedroom and loft bedroom are spacious, the single is small but was fine for our 15 yr old daughter. Beds were all comfortable and we slept well, and the decor is in keeping with the cottage. It takes 5-10 minutes to walk to the village, a bit longer back as it's uphill. Days out: We got the shuttle boat to Aira Force (waterfall) and walked back (about 2.5 ish miles) One morning I ran there and back from the cottage, it was a very pleasant lakeside (in places) flattish run. We brought our bikes with us, we drove to Keswick with them and cycled along the cycle path to Threlkeld, however, due to a closed bridge early on the path we had to divert and do a few hills which didn't go down too well with the younger members of the family! Unless you are into serious mountain biking or don't mind lots of hills, there isn't really anywhere nearby to cycle. We took Kayaks and canoes out on the lake from the Glenridding Sailing Centre which was fun, the guys at the centre were great. From the cottage we walked a circular walk up towards Hellvellyn past the Youth Hostel and back down the other side of the valley, gorgeous views and a chance to see the cottage from the other side of the valley. We stopped in the village at Hellvellyn kitchen cafe, good food (we had paninis) and reasonably priced. We went to Bowness on Windermere, a nice little town for a potter round the shops, quite touristy and fairly busy. We took the steam train from Haverthwaite to Lakeside and then the boat across Windereme to Ambleside and back. We had a meal one evening in Fellbites cafe, opposite the tourist information, very nice food and a cosy restaurant. We didn't eat in the Travellers Rest pub which is just down the hill a short way from the cottage as it was always busy and didn't seem to have a booking system for tables. When we had been out walking/cycling etc during the day it was nice to come back to the cottage and relax, we played lots of Cluedo! The children enjoyed watching some of the great selection of DVD's We loved our stay at Beck View Cottage, and our first time in the Lake District, we were lucky with the weather, only a couple of days rain. Communication with Cecilia was excellent and directions, parking etc was all easy to follow.
Owner's reply: Thank you for such a lovely review - you managed a lot in one week - I am very impressed! So glad you played Cluedo as well. I always wonder if there is still any call for the old board games. Best wishes Cecilia.
“Beck View Cottage”
Very clean cosy cottage, comfortable beds, lovely views over Glenridding. Hope to visit again one day.
Lovely cottage in beautiful Glenridding. The cottage was warm and cosy and had everything you needed. Would definitely go back!
“A lovely cottage in an amazing location”
We had a fantastic time when we stayed and the weather was amazing. So much so that there wasn't anywhere else in the world that I would rather've been at that point. The cottage has everything that you could need...including a dishwasher....and the views from the windows are amazing. You can just walk out of the door and wander the fells or walk down into the village. The local pubs are good and if you don't want to you don't have to get back in your car until you head home.
“A perfect place”
Beck View Cottage is a delightful old miners' cottage, cosy and welcoming. The kitchen is well furnished and there is a supply of "emergency food". The location is perfect: a short walk downhill to the village and its selection of shops, pubs and restaurants, then on to the lake; or turn uphill onto the path to Red Tarn, Helvellyn, Sheffield Pike, etc. You can stay a week, do something different every day and never need to use the car.
Owner's reply: Thank you
“Very comfortable cottage in a perfect location”
We (two couples) had a great stay in this cottage. It is very comfortable and the fire was all laid out, ready to light on our arrival, and soon provided a welcome glow to accompany a glass of wine to start the holiday. The cottage was ideally located to walk several lovely routes without having to get the car out. We were also able to get down to the marina in a matter of minutes, to enjoy a day's sailing on Ullswater. We will certainly be back to stay here again.
“The perfect location for a Lake District holiday”
Beck View Cottage is in the perfect location for a Lake District holiday, especially if you are a keen fell walker. The cottage is on the route up to Helvellyn, and the garden affords spectacular views over the fells. The perfect place to drink tea, eat cake, and reflect on one's efforts after a long walk. The house is cosy and warm, so even on a wet winter's day, it's a very welcoming environment, and has all the facilities you would expect to make it a great holiday cottage, which is why we keep coming back. The Traveller's Rest pub is only 5 minutes walk away, and offers huge portions, which you will feel totally justified eating after a day out on the fells. A few minutes walk beyond that, and you are at the lakeside. A ferry service runs the length of the lake, and you can also hire boats for a day's messing about.
