Description from owner
Set back from the main Hall and nestling in its own woodland garden is the former Dairy. Sympathetically converted, the Dairy offers accommodation for up to 2 guests (a couple). Its layout is fairly unique with mezzanine type sleeping accommodation via a steep wooden ladder. For those not inspired by or confident to access the upper bedroom, there is a comfortable sofa bed in the lounge to use instead.
Bedding and towels are provided. The Dairy has a fully equipped compact kitchen and a shower room on the ground floor. Tea and coffee basics are provided for your arrival so you can arrange a hot drink before you unpack. Unlike many other venues, we provide tea towels, an oven glove, cooking oil and salt and pepper with the intention to make your stay as stress free and comfortable as possible.
On top of the central heating, the Dairy is equipped with a wood-burning stove and there is a supply of logs just outside.
With the Dairy comes a good sized private wooded garden with BBQ and picnic bench. There is parking for up to two cars right outside the Dairy.
Due to unique style of the Dairy, it is not suitable for those who struggle on their feet. Unavoidable stone steps lead down to the front door.
We currently do not have WiFi in the Dairy, but there are cafes and pubs that offer free WiFi in Glenridding and Patterdale, which are both just a 10 minute walk away. Please note that Vodafone is currently the only mobile phone coverage in the immediate area, others are available just a short drive out of the village ( or on top of the surrounding hills!).
Prior to your arrival we will email you a link to a video about the Dairy which covers certain health + safety elements of the Dairy. You will need to complete an online form to confirm all guests have seen this.

“Fabulous location, clean and comfortable”
We enjoyed our stay at the dairy very much. It was spotlessly clean and comfortable and the log burner made it very cosy...there at either electric heaters too. The location is perfect as a base for driving to places such as Grasmere and Ambleside and closer to home Glenridding and Ullswater walks are is only a short walk away. The scenery around the area is breathtaking. Communication prior to our visit was very good. So often self catering places that accept dogs don’t have secure gardens so it was refreshing to be able to let our dog out knowing that she couldn’t escape. Would highlly recommend.

“Well equipped and pet friendly!”
The cottage was in an excellent position for walking and was well equipped and clean. It was lovely having fresh milk waiting for us so we could have a cup of tea while we unpacked! Our little cocker spaniel loved it and it was great to have a secure garden for her. We will definitely book this again as there are so many beautiful walks on the doorstep to explore. It is in easy walking distance of a pub and village shop so it ticked all our boxes.

“Fantastic location and beautiful place to stay”
A beautifully situated property almost Hobbit House like with excellent internal fittings. A lovely peaceful place to stay. The kindly staff at Patterdale House are near if there are any problems but are otherwise leave one in peace. It is very easy to walk into Glenridding and indeed the car can be abandoned quite easily as there is so much walking around.

'Value for money' normally means jettisoning a few home comforts in search of a good deal. Not in this case! The Dairy was well stocked with basic essentials (including milk in the fridge, and REAL coffee!!). The entire property was spotless and I immediately felt at home. The location was perfect too. All in all, staying at The Dairy added value to my holiday and when I return to the lakes,this will be my first choice of accommodation. 10/10

“Cosy, Quirky, Dog Friendly Cottage”
Cosy but quirky cottage with odd bedroom. Clean, warm and perfect for a base to explore the southern end of Ullswater. Although set in the grounds of Patterdale Hall it is undisturbed by the school parties. A fenced garden kept the dog from escaping. Facilities are in good order and clean if a bit dated. I really liked it. The only thing to mention is that the bedroom is up a steep wooden ladder so if you have a lot of gear you might struggle to get it up there. Maybe take a bit of rope to pull your bags up? There is also a dinner plate sized emergency exit light up there that is quite bright. It did not disturb me but it might if you prefer total darkness.

“The Dairy, Patterdale”
Third visit. Great place, a little quirky, but ideal for walking. Good bus service and Steamer jetty nearby. Fantastic woodburner too with fuel privided. Excellent place to stay for a few days. Manager excellent...complimentary bottle of wine to compensate for noise as workmen at work on the hall but in truth they were very quiet in anycase.

Excellent location and accommodation. Really quaint cottage, well equipped - the bedroom is accessed by a ladder through a hatch so you need to be reasonably mobile but great fun. The only criticism would be the water heater timed to come on during the night and waking any light sleepers among us - easily remedied by turning it off and re-timing but other than that it was perfect. Glendenning is a nice quiet base to access lots of activities - we'll be back

“Perfect lake district retreat”
Brilliant! Perfect for our large Labrador dog. The garden was safe and spacious. The Dairy is very deceptive as it is much bigger than the photos feel. There was a welcome jug of milk in the fridge as well as biscuits, tea and coffee. The log burner was all made up ready too. We will definitely be rebooking for a whole week next year. The staff at the hall were very friendly and were very helpful when I locked myself out too! Very impressed and good value for money. Just the right sort of accommodation for a walking holiday.

“Location second to none for walking”
Staff in the Hall were really helpful and the Dairy was equipped with everything you would need. We were there for 2 weeks and we only used the car a couple of times, it is excellent for walking. Access to the bedroom was fun, but not suitable for everyone. We had a lovely time thank you.
