Gillbank Cottage is a classic Lakeland cottage. The house is private, secluded and self-contained, one of the only self-catering properties in the area with all of its own amenities, accommodation and grounds. Why share when you can enjoy all your holiday in private?
It is nestled in the fells leading to Scafell from Boot and has its own private gardens and parking area - so no other guests to disturb your enjoyment of the property and grounds.
The cottage - once owned by renowned Lakeland poet William Wordsworth - boasts many period features including an early 18th Century tapered porcelain bath and exposed oak beams.
Views of Scafell and the Esk valley greet visitors from the windows and gardens. Numerous walks invite you outdoors - whether for a leisurely stroll among the hills and tarns or a quick trip to one of the three pubs within walking distance. The Eskdale and Ravenglass miniature railway runs at the base of the hill and the many lakes and seaside are only a short drive away.

Further details
Please note that the cottage is a family-friendly property and not suitable for Hen or Stag breaks
Wheelchair and limited mobility access: the ground floor can be accessed by those with limited mobility but externally there are some loose stone paths and internally there are low steps between some rooms. The downstairs bathroom is not disability adapted, but is relatively large for ease of movement.
The cottage is within the Lake District National Park and neighouring a working National Trust hill farm. As the cottage is almost 400 years old in parts, we advise guests that it can experience the usual features of older properties in this part of the country. These features include unavoidable damp and moisture along external walls, although every effort is made to avoid and reduce this, and the sounds and smells of livestock and country life in the area.
The property best suits those with a love for the outdoors whether this is walking, cycling, running, mountain climbing or simply enjoying the views of the National Park.
