Location description from owner

The England region

Located in the beautiful open countryside, close to Glastonbury, the property enjoys magnificent views of the hills and Tor. Nearby Longleat safari park offers a unique day out, driving in and amongst the lions and rhinos. Whilst for the architecturally minded, the World Heritage Site of Bath and, Wells the smallest city in England with its beautiful Cathedral, are within a short driving distance. The area also boasts such attractions as Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole caves, The Fleet Air Arm Museum and Haynes Motor Museum.

West Pennard

Glastonbury is famous for it's ancient history. Joseph of Arimathea (Jesus' great uncle) visited Glastonbury following Jesus' death and legend has it that this was the resting place for the holy grail. A few centuries after this King Arthur was buried at the foot of Glastonbury Tor (Avalon) and legend has it he still roams around the Abbey ruins! Either way, Glastonbury is a hive for spirituality and an alternative way of life. One visit to the town will make this abundantly obvious. It does have a great deal of charm though and of course all the necessary amenities. The area is probably best known for Glastonbury Festival which is a couple of miles from the property.

The surrounding fields offer a host of walking routes if you are feeling active. If not, just relax and go to the spa or light the wood burner and put your feet up, soak in the private massaging hot tub.

“A wonderful venue for the whole family to be together”

Reviewed 6 Apr 2016

A large, fabulous converted farmhouse with excellent facilities. There was plenty of room for us all and the house is both extremely child and dog-friendly!! The enclosed garden was perfect for the children to play in, the hot tub was enjoyed by all and the games room and swimming pool were used frequently by all of us. Thirteen of us stayed, myself and my husband, three children with their spouses and five grandchildren aged between four and fifteen. We also had three dogs, one adult and two puppies! None of us wanted to leave the property when it was time for us to depart!

Hi Kay, we are really glad that you had a great stay at Woodlands Farmhouse and the space (inside and out) was enjoyed by everyone, even those on 4 legs. We hope to see you all back again at some point in the future! Many thanks Ed & the team

“Absolute Heaven!!”

Reviewed 19 Jan 2016

Stayed for a long weekend with my children and grandchildren to celebrate my 60th birthday. The house was more than we expected, loads of room for the chlldren to run around, the cinema room was a godsend with 8 chlldren all under 7years!! The swimming pool and hot tubs were an added bonus the kids absolutely loved them and we have photo memories of them enjoying themselves! There was everything you needed to cook in the kitchen, the bedrooms and en-suites were superb with lovely little touches(soap and shampoo etc) My sons were in 7th heaven with real log fires as the weather was not very good (raining most of the time) The owners were more than helpful, especially Ed!! I would highly recommend Woodlands Farmhouse for a family get together!!

A lovely review of Woodlands Farmhouse and the facilities so thank you for that. We are so glad that your special birthday weekend with all the family was a good one, despite the rainy Somerset weather. The log burners are a real treat when its miserable and we're glad that pool and cinema room kept all the kids entertained. We hope to see you back again in the future. Kind regards Ed and The Woodlands Retreats Team.

“Out of this world!”

Reviewed 8 Dec 2015

Absolouteiy fantastic. We stayed here for a 2 night break, as a large family group, for a 40th birthday. It had everything we needed (and more!) to enable us to have quality time together. Everything from the accommodation, the dinner prepared for us by a private chef, to the spa and spa treatments, was just perfect. Can't recommend this enough. We will definitely be back!

It was great to have you stay and we're glad that you had such a good time. The chef said that you were a great group to cook for and that it was a pleasure to cater for you. The Spa is a great place to relax and the therapists love what they do so we're pleased that this showed through in your treatments. We look forward to having you back to stay again. Many thanks Ed and The Woodlands Retreats Team

“A charming Farnhouse”

Reviewed 30 Nov 2015

This house is large and comfortable. The bedrooms are all big and all the bathrooms are of a high specification . Perhaps the addition of hair shampoo to these would be nice. It is situated in a rural spot but that adds to the charm and gives an added feeling of safety . The spa which is next to the house is fabulous and staffed by excellent therapist . We were a party of 14 and not one complaint was given towards any of their treatments and we had a few!! It is a quiet and very relaxing area. Improved lighting along the access pathway to the spa is needed as at this time of the year it is very dark after 4pm. This would obviously not be a problem during the summer months. The access gate could also be tweaked as some of the ladies had difficulty opening it in the dark. The downstairs living area is very comfortable and has two lounge areas which is great for large parties. The cinema room is great but one small complaint that there seems to be a small sound issue with the TV. The house is warm and enhanced by two wood-burners and an Aga . The kitchen table easily fitted 14 of us for a comfortable sit down meal. We were welcomed by the landlord Ed on arrival and he was contactable at all times and extremely helpful and prompt with any problems we encountered . All in all a great weekend in a super house.

Thank you for your review of Woodlands Farmhouse and we are really glad that you had a good time and made the most of the facilities. The therapists were certainly kept busy and we're pleased that everyone enjoyed their treatments. The sound for the TV in the main lounge is designed to run through the surround sound system which I believe may not have been switched on when you were using it. I showed this system to one of your group on arrival but think that may have been switched off. The pathway through the apple orchard does get dark earlier in the winter months and torches are provided at the house but we do have issues with these going missing unfortunately. Overall I'm glad that your stay was a good one and we hope to see you back again in the future. Kind regards Ed and The Woodlands Retreats Team

“Fantastic Large House”

Reviewed 6 Jan 2015

A group of 13 of us stayed for the new year and really enjoyed ourselves. The property is great with fantastic Spa facilities. We would not hesitate in recommending this to anyone but particularly large groups looking to walk in beautiful countryside. Our only negative comment is the seating in the main lounge is very low which can be a bit challenging for the older person but this is really nit picking. Go for it you will not be unhappy.

Thank you, we appreciate that you will be recommending us. We are pleased that you had a great stay. Kind regards, Paul & The Woodlands Retreats Team.

“Fantatsic - on site private spa, what more could you ask for!”

Reviewed 11 Dec 2014

Stayed with friends for a "sophisticated" Hen weekend and the house and the facilities were perfect! Great to get somewhere that can sleep a large group and has great social space, particulary in the dining area. Yes it's in the countryside but it's only 45-60 mins from Bristol and Bath and we had no problems getting a Sainsburys delivery, taxis to/from the house and a mini bus in to Bath for a night out. We were lucky enough to get the spa to oursleves for the day which was fab, as were the treatments given by Gemma. I hope to be back!

Thanks for your kind comments - we're delighted that you had a good weekend at Woodlands Farmhouse and it all went to plan. We hope the wedding goes equally as well and the sun shines for you! Paul & the team.

“Great stay, the farmhouse was cosy and had everything we needed”

Reviewed 2 Dec 2014

We had a great family reunion here. We made use of all facilities including the hot tub, spa and loved the ice maker! Have stayed at Swallow's orchard previously and want to try out the remaining 2 properties!

Thank you for staying with us once again, I'm so pleased you had a successful weekend with the family and the ice maker was a hit! Paul & the team.

“Faultless, beautiful house, fantastic hot tub!”

Reviewed 22 Oct 2014

The booking process and dealing with Woodlands Retreat was excellent and that carried on to the property. The house is in a fantastic location, beautiful countryside, and stunning views. The attention to detail in the house is faultless, from the decoration to the excellently stocked kitchen. Hotel quality bed linen and super comfortable beds. Couldn't fault the whole stay and would definitely use this company and their properties again.

We're so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and from booking through to staying, we met your expectations. We hope to see you again sometime. Paul & the team.

“An excellent venue with outstanding facilities”

Reviewed 17 Sep 2014

An elderly farmhouse brought right up to date with an outstanding level of refurbishment. The house and surrounding area make for a great vacation with lots to see and do whether on site or further afield. No one can fail to be impressed with the standard the owners have achieved.

We're really pleased you enjoyed your stay at Woodlands Farmhouse for such an important family gathering. We hope to see you again sometime. Paul & the team.

“A very pleasant place to stay with a high standard of accommodation and very well appointed pleasure complex.”

Reviewed 12 Aug 2014

The location is quite convenient and the property is spacious in terms of living areas. There was a large kitchen / dining room with a table plenty big enough for a larger party than us. Two lounges plus a library means that not everyone has to be in one sitting area. A must for most of us, the WI-FI was available over most of the house. The leisure complex was better than many hotels and I guess the only issue we had was that we needed to book a two-hour slot for the whole stay so, depending what time we came back in the afternoon may or may not have been the best time on a particular day.

Thank you for your kind words; we're so pleased that you had a good stay at Woodlands Farmhouse. Whilst always available for you to use for groups up to 6 persons at anytime, we appreciate that you may not always know your plans in advance when using the spa. Not with your group, but sadly we have found in the past some larger groups can dominate the spa and hence we introduced the time booking system. We hope to see you again in the future. Paul & the team.
