Location description from owner
The England region
Artlegarth Country Lodges. Situated in the Lake District's picturesque Eden Valley, in the quaint village of Ravenstonedale, Cumbria, you will discover our real log cabins nestled between the Lake District National Park and Yorkshire Dales National Park.
There are three luxurious wood cabins for you to experience, thoughtfully positioned with exceptional space in 7 acres of wooded and landscaped private grounds. Artlegarth Lodges offer a true secluded countryside log cabin experience and yet is within close proximity of three great food pubs within the village, designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty and described by Wainwright as one of
Westmorland's loveliest villages with the finest parish in the whole of Lakeland.
Artlegarth Country Lodges lies at the foot of the Howgill and Wild Boar fells, providing the perfect base for exploring, outdoor pursuits or simply just enjoying the far reaching views from your cabin's porch or hot tub. Each solid wood cabin is fully equipped with everything you need for your holiday home from home.
From the comfort of your Lodge there is an abundance of wildlife for you to admire
including our native red squirrels, rabbits and occasionally deer along with a vast array of visiting birds for you to enjoy all year round.
You might choose to spend all your time relaxing, enjoying the peace and tranquility of the natural surroundings or taking a short stroll to the local pubs to enjoy a delicious meal and sample the local beers and wines.
For guests of a more energetic persuasion, there is a wealth of countryside pursuits on the doorstep; scenic walks, fishing, golf, cycle routes, horse riding, bird watching, swimming and tennis courts. Day trippers will be in their element enjoying the scenery whilst exploring the National Parks, historic villages and market towns.
Artlegarth Lodges are in a perfect position for exploring both the Lake District National Park and Yorkshire Dales National Park, there is also plenty to do right on the doorstep too:
Ravenstonedale lies at the foot of the Howgill and Wild Boar fells offering excellent opportunities for walking. Pamphlets are provided in your lodge for twenty local walks in Ravenstonedale and Kirkby Stephen, some of them leaving from the doorstep of your lodge. With plenty of options you can choose from a gentle stroll right to a local watering hole, through to an enthusiastic yomp, or mountain hike.
Artlegarth Lodges are a short scenic stroll (one mile) down a quiet country lane to the village of Ravenstonedale with its popular two real ale pubs, The Black Swan and The Kings Head, which both serve fantastic food. The Fat Lamb can also be walked to via country lanes (2 ½ miles) or cross country (1 ½ miles). A short drive or taxi ride away is The Cross Keys (Temperance Inn), which we highly recommend for a unique afternoon tea or dinner experience.
Bessy Becks in neighbouring village Newbiggin on Lune offers excellent fishing in well stocked trout lakes for all skills and abilities. Rod hire and tuition is also available as well as providing a lovely tea room selling home made goods. River fishing can also arranged on the Lune and Eden with permits available from Tebay Anglers and Kirkby Stephen Anglers respectively.

The village of Ravenstonedale also boasts an outdoor tennis court maintained by the Ravenstonedale Tennis Club with racket and ball hire available in the Black Swan pub. Details of how to book the court is available from the Club and detailed on the entrance to the court.
The bustling market town of Kirkby Stephen is seven miles away and offers a myriad of shops, restaurants, pubs, cafes and historic sites, in addition to its weekly Monday market. Watch out for the local Parrots too! Often seen flying around the town.
The undulating scenic quiet country lanes are a haven for both the keen and occasional cyclist. There are also miles of off roading biking on the Pennine Bridleway, England's latest long distance trail for horses and bikes. Bikes can be hired from Stonetrail who will provide route maps and advice.
