Description from owner

Description

Moonseeker is one of two pet friendly barn conversions at Webber Hill Farm Cottages, in a peaceful location and a great base for exploring Dartmoor National Park. Our cottages nestle between fields of sheep and cattle. Reached down a narrow, unmade farm track, Moonseeker is situated adjacent to the Farmhouse and is completely private and self-contained.

THE ACCOMMODATION:

The interior is modern whilst retaining character features such as beams and fragments of cob wall. #Moonseeker is two storey and sleeps 4 people in 2 ensuite bedrooms, separated by a walkway for extra privacy. Both bedrooms have Hypnos beds. The lilac room has a 5ft King Size bed with underbed storage, and the blue room has a 6ft Super King (or two 3ft singles) with underbed storage. . There is plenty of space for clothes in the triple wardrobes and the blue room has a chest of drawers. We provide a hairdryer in both rooms.

One of my favourite things about the bedrooms is watching the night

One of my favourite things about the bedrooms is watching the night clouds from the high velux windows as they race overhead in the moonlight, or stargaze without having to get out of bed.

Both ensuites have large shower enclosures with power showers, heated towel rails, toilet. The hand basins sit on granite bases.

The kitchen is very well equipped for up to 4 people, with plenty of crockery and cutlery. The kitchen units are hand made oak with granite worksurfaces. We provide a dishwasher, fridge, seperate freezer and washing machine. The cooker is LPG (both hobs and ovens) and has 2 ovens and 8 hob burners, so if you have more than one keen chef there need be no arguments over who has the cooker! We also provide a microwave, toaster, initial supply of tea, coffee and sugar, salt, pepper and a pint of milk for the first cup of tea when you arrive.

The lounge has very comfy leather sofas with plenty of cushions and throws. Whilst Moonseeker has underfloor heating throughout the property, the lounge also has a woodburner (first basket of logs provided) which is great for taking the chill off, or enjoying the relaxing effect of the flames as you unwind after a day exploring.

The TV is a 40"Panasonic, with Freeview. We have a DVD player and an iPod dock if you want to bring your favourite music.

We provide leaflets for ideas of things to do, places to eat etc, and we have a cottage information folder full of lots of suggestions about local areas of interest and information about the cottage to help make your stay comfortable.

PETS:

Accepting up to 4 dogs (note extra charge of £25 per pet per holiday) or house cats and other pets by arrangement, your pet will also arrive to a bowl of fresh water and a biscuit, small blanket and towel for paw wiping. We have a muddy boot and muddy paw wash area just outside the front door.

*Please note that pets are only allowed downstairs.

We would appreciate it if you would keep dogs on leads when you are not in Moonseeker's private garden as you may encounter free range chickens, other people and pets in the communal areas. The rear southwest facing garden is for the sole use of guests at Moonseeker and is very private and well screened, and as dog escape proof as we can make it.

THINGS TO DO:

We are 1.5 miles from Okehampton with all the amenities of a small country town such as banks, supermarkets, cafes and restaurants, a small number of shops and a Victorian Arcade with some antique shops.

Okehampton has the remains of an ancient castle, once one of the most formidable fortresses in the country, a restored Victorian railway station (good breakfasts here!) and an interesting Museum of Dartmoor Life. There are also some good farm shops.

There are over 40 nature reserves within easy travelling distance of the property. There are quiet walks direct from the cottage, with access to Ashbury Forest about a 30 minute walk. Ashbury Golf Course is 10 minutes drive away.

Being centrally located, almost on the border of Devon and Cornwall; Moonseeker is ideally positioned for walks on Dartmoor, the nearest Dartmoor village being Belstone, about 5 minutes drive away. The cottage is also perfect for visiting the Devon and Cornwall coasts; keen walkers can walk parts of the South West Coast Path as day walks. There are many historic houses, gardens and national trust properties within easy driving distance such as Castle Drogo, Lydford Gorge, Killerton, Heligan, RHS Rosemoor, Lanhydrock, Cotehele and Greenway (home to Agatha Christie). In under an hour you will reach Bodmin moor in Cornwall which has world heritage mining sites and is Poldark country, Exmoor (think Lorna Doone), for watersports or lake side walking there is Roadford Lake 20 minutes away by car, with Siblyback near Jamaica Inn about 40 minutes.

Please note we are unable to accept children under the age of 14.

Location description from owner

The England region

Okehampton

Webber Hill Farm Cottages, of which Moonseeker is the larger of our 2 cottages, is located about 1.5 miles from the market town of Okehampton and its shops and amenities, and about the same distance from the village of Sampford Courtenay - home to the Prayer Book Rebellion of 1549, and a very pleasant little village with a great pub, The New Inn.

We have lovely walks along leafy country lanes right from your door, which take you to Abbeyford Woods; Simmons Park in Okehampton will lead you up onto Dartmoor, or take the 5 minute trip in your car to Belstone (remember the film 'The Belstone Fox'?) and enjoy the beauty, peace and remoteness of Dartmoor no matter what the season.

Getting around

To get the most out of your stay you will really need a car as we are not on a bus route and the nearest railway station is Exeter St Davids, about 25 miles away. It is possible to get a taxi from Okehampton to us, so you could catch a bus from Exeter to Okehampton and then a taxi - but then you need to think about how you intend to get around.....

Interaction with guest

We like to welcome our guests to Moonseeker personally, therefore we try to come and see you shortly after you have arrived to make sure all is well and answer any questions you may have. After that you can interact as little or as much as you want. Everybody is different. It is your holiday and we respect your privacy.
