The Turkish Mediterranean Coast region
The Turquoise Coast of the Turkey has it all, the unspoilt beaches to the beautiful clear water, charming and sophisticated.
Beautiful clear water, which really is turquoise! Endless soft sandy beaches and reminders of a bygone age with a plethora of amphitheatres, mausoleums and ancient cities.
As if that was not enough, you have the Lycian Way which is a 509 km way-marked footpath running from Fethiye to Antalya which snakes around the coast and mountains offering spectacular views. Most people come to Kalkan for the sunshine, but this area makes a wonderful winter break as well due to the warm days, spring flowers that abound and the still warm sea. The days are warm enough to wear a tee shirt and also sunbathe, although the evenings can be a little cool.
The Turquoise coast has some of the best diving in the world with its wrecks, both ancient and more modern, reefs, caves and underwater fauna and flora. There are numerous diving centres along the coast which offer a range of courses, from introductory to advanced.
The historic town of Kalkan is situated on Turkey's gorgeous Lycian Coast and was once a simple Turkish/Greek fishing village. Today's Kalkan is quietly sophisticated and postcard pretty with a few good quality low-rise hotels and privately owned villas, a multitude of excellent roof-top restaurants offering all manner of culinary delights. The town has retained it's charm and special ambiance with wonderful hospitality of Kalkan people is another reason why the first-time visitor invariably return time after time. The village shops stay open til around midnight and are well stocked with interesting antiques, crafts, jewellery, carpets and clothing. Kalkan has several banks (with ATM machines), post office, doctors surgery, pharmacies, supermarkets. Although it is without a doubt, the people of Kalkan who make this a very special place .The narrow streets of the old town are lined with whitewashed shuttered buildings festooned with brightly coloured bougainvillea intermingled with shops and terrace-topped restaurants. These streets twist down to the harbour, which is the focus of the village and here you can enjoy a meal whilst watching the world go by or by looking at the array of elegant 'gullets'.
During the day, you can make use of one of the many 'beach clubs', engage in some of the local sporting activities (such as water-skiing, parascending, scuba diving, trekking etc), take a trip to one of the historical sites, drive a jeep up into the mountains, cruise on a gullet or simply relax by your pool. At night Kalkan comes alive. It has over 120 restaurants serving a wide variety of choices with many offering roof terraces where you can dine under the stars and watch the sun set over the sea.
Kalkan weekly Market, which is on a Thursday, is a riot of colour, sound and smell. Fruits, vegetables, cheeses, honey, olives, traditional fabrics, rugs and garments sit alongside locals serving delicious juices, pancakes and freshly baked bread with spinach and local cheese.
Day trips include to Saklikent Gorge and the trout farms, Fethiye market which are a must.Boat trips can be booked daily at the harbour and tour and excursions for the adventurous can also be booked at many places in Kalkan town.

"Memorable Holiday in a wonderful Villa"
The Villa is every bit as wonderful as it looks in the pictures. Well maintained villa and gardens. I loved the views and position of the Villa . We booked the Villa for our family to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary. The owners Gul and Sharon had a huge bunch of flowers delivered to the Villa for our celebration ,such a kind gesture and sums up the first class service they provide. Views over Kalkan lovely . Plenty of activities beautiful places and beaches to explore if you can drag yourself away from lazing around the wonderful pool.
Thank you for your lovely comments, we are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Villa Sonbahar and had great time in Kalkan. We have a great team who take care of all our guests needs and they do a fabulous job. We like to make it a memorable stay for all our guests at Villa Sonbahar, we look forward to welcoming you again. G&R

"Can't wait to go back!"
We loved our stay at the Villa Sonbahar! We travelled with our 18 month old so really appreciated the homely feel the villa had to offer. The villa is nice and private so you can enjoy the gorgeous views from whichever level of the villa you want! The scenic views are just breathtakingly beautiful. The weather was lovely and perfect for our daughter to enjoy her time in the pool;we were really impressed that the pool was kept nice & clean. The neighbours were welcoming and friendly and most of all the people of Kalkan were absolutely fantastic; so child-friendly and loving! We were looking for a relaxing holiday; a home away from home and Villa Sobahar gave us exactly that; just with more character and comfort!
Thank you so much for your lovely comments, we are very pleased that you enjoyed every aspect of Villa Sonbahar and found everything to satisfaction. We will be more than happy to welcome you and your family again at Sonbahar at anytime. G&R

"Beautiful villa, beautiful weather, what more do you need!"
Stayed for one week at the end of September. The villa is lovely, and has some amazing views from the terrace and the two balconies leading from the upstairs rooms. Well equipped and spacious property, with beautiful pool and gardens. The walk down to the town is hard surfaced all the way and taxis in abundance for your return costing around £4. Thank you Gul and Rabina - we will certainly return.
Many thanks for your wonderful comments, we are very happy that you enjoyed your stay at villa Sonbahar and its amazing views. We would love to welcome you and your family again in the future. G&R

"Excellent villa, problematic location"
The villa was very comfortable and spacious however access up a very steep hill, which was not mentioned in the advert, proved too much for my partner. Every time we went to town which was sometimes twice a day we had to get a taxi back, which over the 18 days we were there at £3.50 a trip added up. The only negatives we had in the villa were the safe was locked and the rep could not open it ,the barbecue pan was full of ash and the grill was covered in soot and grease ,and in the 18 days we were there the cleaner only came once we had to strip spare beds for clean bedding after 2nd week, we had 2 electrical problems an a/c unit and the fridge which were both dealt with promptly by the rep apart from this we had a very good holiday
Thank you for your comments on our villa and that you enjoyed your stay. Your points have been noted and taken on board. Our advert does describe the villa being on the hillside which gives it the stunning views as described by many of our guests also. G&R

"Beautiful, comfortable, well equipped villa with amazing views."
We really enjoyed our stay at Villa Sonbahar. The photos do not really do it justice. It was very comfortable and the air conditioners worked perfectly. Sharon and her husband met us and were on hand throughout our stay if we needed anything. It was great to have the use of a local mobile phones for calling cabs and take aways. The pool was always clean and maintained every day. We fell in love with Kalkan and the people. Couldn't fault any restaurant. We will be back. The only downside for me was it was too hot and hillly for running. In fact we tended to get a taxi back after dinner each night as the villa is situated on a steep hill. But without the hill we wouldn't have had the view.
Thank you so much for your wonderful comments, its true photos don't do villa sonbahar justice and the breathtaking views, which you wake upto.We are pleased you had a lovely time and would love to welcome you again to our home. G&R

"BEST EVER FIRST HOLIDAY"
This was our first family holiday...so as you can imagine we were all a little nervous but excited about what to expect as we had never been to Turkey before and never rented a villa. Rabina sorted every litte detail for us from the villa to the the transfers and every single place she recommended we visit was absolutely brilliant. We got there safe and sound and then all the fun began:) everyday was more fun filled than the next. Shopping at the market they recommended was sooo amazing. The place itself is magical with views that go on forever but the people there are just the best...always welcoming and more than happy to help when your a little lost:)the beaches are to die for....you could stay there forever relaxing. We were only there for 7 nights but managed to get a full day shopping in, hit 2 beautiful beaches, took the most crazy ride on a speed boat, horse riding on Patara beach while taking in the most amazing views and quad biking too:)there was sooo much more we wanted to do but time was not on our side but next visit will definitely be for longer. I could not recommend this place more to anyone. The most unforgetaable holiday ever and will definitely be returning in the near future.
Glad we could help and make your first family holiday experience a wonderful one staying at Villa Sonbahar. Looks like you made the most of your time.Love to welcome you and your family again. Many thanks for your lovely comments. G&R

"Kalkan & Villa Son Bahar----Beautiful location; exceptional villa"
Gul Mulhal, the property owner, dealt with the booking and my queries in a very efficient, professional, and helpful manner. The villa was lovely and the view from its hillside location was superb. We were pleased that we hired a car at Dalaman airport for, as Kalkan is situated on a steep hillside and as I am approaching 80, I would have had some difficulty in getting to the villa on a daily basis on foot. If I was a resident of Kalkan I would worry about commercial overkill both in respect of restaurants and shops, for on occasions, when walking through the streets in the evening, it feels as if you are running the gauntlet with shops and restaurants trying to entice you into their particular outlet. This having been said the holiday and accommodation were brilliant.
Thank you very much for your lovely comments,we are very pleased that you had a wonderful time in our villa and that you enjoyed the wonderful views. We look forward to welcoming you again in our Villa and to Kalkan.(G&R)

"Fabulous Villa in lovely town."
Beautiful villa in a great location – the pool, the views, the interior are all fantastic. Gul made the whole process of renting very easy, and whilst in Kalkan Tracy was an excellent host looking after us whilst staying in the villa. Would definitely book again.
We are pleased that you had a great stay in our Villa. We would love to welcome you again thank you for your lovely comments.(G&R)

"Wow wow wow this villa is the place to go"
This property is probably the best holiday rental I have ever stayed in. The villa is spacious both inside with loads of good sized rooms, storage and balconies and outside with the wonderful patio, shaded seating areas and fab swimming pool. From every level of the villa the views are fab, but from the middle and top floor balconies they are breath taking. The road up from town is not flat so may not suit wheelchair user without a car, but without the walk up you would not get those stunning views. There are lots of items there you dont need to pack such as towels, hairdryer, beach/pool equipment, travel plugs, mosquito stuff, spices for cooking. And use of a pay as you go mobile, so you can leave yours at home and avoid high charges, and many more things. The owners if you need to contact them are very friendly and will answer anything you need to know. The transfer was organised for us on request and went as smooth as could be, no hassle at all. The driver was there to meet us at the airport and the resort contact was waiting for us with the keys when we arrived and was on hand throughout the holiday if we needed anything. It is a quiet area with the main restaurants etc a short walk away. There are loads of taxis in town if you want to ride back, but we always walked its not far. (we are 48, 48, 12, 12). The owners if you need to contact them are very friendly and will answer anything you need to know before you go. Kalkan itself has plenty to do in the town, loads of restaurants, the further into town you go the more expensive they are but mainly because you are seated outside on the roof tops with the views, on the walk out of town there are some fab little restaurants that are cheaper too, both types of restaurant were good food. If you want a Turkish bath with massage there are a few places around and is a wonderful experience. There is also turkish nights to book, including one at the hotel that is two minutes walk away. The whole night worked out about £90 but that was with all food, all drinks and the entertainment for 4 of us, maybe its cheaper elsewhere but this one was on the doorstep. There are many trips that can be done, details of these can be found in the villa or from shops in the town. Kalkan market is on a Thursday, it is huge and if you are happy enough to barter you can get a good deal. It can get very hot though so take water with you. Back to Villa Sonbahar i would highly recommend it, you have the fab outdoor garden, pool area with lovely plush comfortable sunbeds (no plastic rubbish). Get too warm sit on the comfy chairs on the shaded pool balcony, or head up to the spacious middle floor balcony and curl up on the comfy garden sofa with a coffee. when you are ready again you can head up to the top balcony and sunbathe on a lounger whilst drinking in the views. Or you can head back and take a dip in the pool. If the kids have had too much sun they can sit inside for a while watching a dvd (10 for £10 on the market) or if they have ipads etc there is open wi-fi for them to log into. Go into town at night or be lazy staying out by the pool until 8 & ordering in a take out pizza. The choice is yours but whatever you do at this villa you will have a wonderful experience. We will look to visit again but next time for 2 weeks as I just was not ready to leave this villa after 1 week only. Enjoy :)
Thank you for your wonderful comments. We are glad that you had a lovely time in our villa and enjoyed every aspect of it.We would be more than happy to welcome you again.(G&R)

"Spectacular!! Best Villa ever stayed in!!"
The villa is superbly located offering amazing views. It was extremely clean, the villa inside remains cool and the air conditioning was not even needed. It's a 15 minute walk or 2 min drive to the harbour and the main town where all the local amenities such as the chemist and grocery stores are including fantastic cafes, restaurants and bars. There's a 15 min walk to a pebble beach and a 10 min drive to a sandy beach. The villa itself was comfortable and homely and had everything that you would need such as wi-fi, kitchen utensils, latest movies. etc. I would recommend this villa to everyone and am already planning on booking another trip to Villa Sonbahar.
Thank you very much for your comments,we are very pleased that you had a wonderful time in our home and that you found everything satisfactory. And that you enjoyed the wonderful views. We look forward to welcoming you again in our Villa and to Kalkan.
