Description from owner
Quoted in the Travel pages of the Sunday Times as having one of the "10 Best Views in the World".
The historic town of Kalkan is situated on Turkey's gorgeous Lycian Coast and was once a simple Turkish/Greek fishing village. Today's Kalkan is quietly sophisticated and postcard pretty with a multitude of excellent roof-top restaurants, mainly looking out over the beautiful harbour and bay, offering all manner of culinary delights to cater for any budgets, together with a good selection of stylish and atmospheric blues and jazz bars. Unlike some other Turkish coastal resorts, Kalkan's main economy derives from tourism and consequently, its inhabitants put much effort and pride into the town's historic preservation. As a result of very strict building regulations and the efforts of the Kalkan Foundation, the town has retained its charm and special ambience. The wonderful hospitality of the Kalkan people is another reason why the first-time visitor invariably returns time after time.
A deposit of £100 per week is required on booking. Full payment 8 weeks before departure.

The Turkish Mediterranean Coast region
Kalkan is probably the most picturesque and sophisticated fishing village to be found anywhere in Turkey. Kalkan has not been touched by mass tourism, set amidst a breathtaking landscape with mountains as a backdrop, the village slopes down to a beautiful harbour and Mediterranean bay; you soon realize why so many articles are being written applauding its beauty. (The Sunday Times wrote) Kalkan attracts the sort of visitor who might also be attracted to Tuscany or the Dordogne. No gangs of teenagers jostling through its maze of old cobbled lanes.
There are no throngs of people on its newly extended pebble beach. Kalkan has somehow managed to retain its authentic charm and yet provides everything the discerning holidaymaker could wish for.
Because of its great charm, Kalkan has a growing number of perennial visitors who say the town is the only holiday destination they would choose to visit repeatedly. There is simply no other town quite like Kalkan along the Turkish coast.
Kalkan curls snugly around an ancient harbour sheltered at the foot of the towering Taurus Mountains. The town overlooks a beautiful bay in which islands seem to magically float upon the shimmering sea. Narrow streets twist down to the harbour through the historic town and are lined with listed whitewashed villas with shuttered windows situated alongside small local specialty shops and restaurants.
Overhead hang original ornately carved Ottoman timber balconies garlanded with brilliantly coloured bougainvillea cascading to the streets below. It is a very special place.
In the heart of the old town and surrounding the harbour are scores of restaurants and tavernas, many having roof terraces with views out to sea. This really is the place to come if you enjoy browsing through quaint local gift shops and boutiques and enjoying atmospheric nights in sophisticated restaurants and bars.
Local market day for the area is held on a Thursday. Try your hand at bartering or go along and have a laugh at the local banter. Some good quality bargains are available, warning never accept the first price offered.
Bars, restaurants and beach are all within an easy ten minute walk. Winding streets, roof terrace bars and harbour-side restaurants make Kalkan known as "The Turkish Riviera". Wonderfully, it has avoided mass tourism. Patara Beach is half an hour by car and is considered one of the best beaches in the world by The Sunday Times travel writer. Privately skippered boats can be hired for the day to take you to coves for a swim in the turquoise sea. Water sports and scuba diving are available. Many wonderful places to visit: Saklikent Gorge, Kokova sunken city, Tlos, Xanthos, Letoon, Pinara, Demra.

“Fantastic villa to stay in when staying in Kalkan”
Afternoon Gary, Just back from holiday and we would like to say what a really fantastic relaxing time we all had a your villa, the weather proved to be unusually hot for June, Day temperatures were up to the mid 40s and the night time's were 29+ so it was really not but the cool breeze that was around the villa took some of the heat of the day away and the two pools proved to be great the kids had no problems getting in and out of that one and during the week got so confident that they even started to get in to the big one and played for hours in them, We also really like Yusuf he was full of local knowledge and very helpful, so once again thank you for renting your loverly villa to us.
Many thanks for your kind words. We are confident that all our guests will enjoy VillaJosh.
“Fabulous views, excellent company and wonderful local people.”
I would just like to say what an utterly faulous time we had during our stay at Villa Josh. An ideal location with the most breathtaking views. The local people in the village are most welcoming and not to mention the personal support and assistance from Yusuf and Hassan. They helped us to maximse our time at the villa from arranging the airport transfers to the wonderful excursions at The Saklikant Gorge, Yaka Park, wonderfully mysterious and golden sands of Patara Beach but to mention only a few. We had the choice to relax peacefully on the roof terrace with a glass of wine (which we did plentifully) or hop down to the village where the numerous resteraunts line the sea front and harbour walls, fabulous just fabulous.
