“Wood clad caravan”

Reviewed 20 Aug 2016

We booked a three night stay to visit family near by. We are a family of five. 2 adults, an 11 year old, 3 year old and a 2 year old. We expected a wooden chalet set in beautiful woodland. We actually found a wood clad 'caravan' on a campsite. Although fairly clean, the chalet is dated and cluttered. Lots of the storage was full with unused bits and pieces. The two twin rooms were musty smelling but the linen clean and fresh. The 'bunk' is located right by the door (this would have worried us if a younger child were to sleep here). It was very musty and damp smelling. Our 11 year old found it very stuffy if he shut the curtain provided but felt strange sleeping so close to the door in what is essentially the entrance hall if he left it open. The bathroom is very dated. The shower was an interesting experience! Old style mixer taps and a mouldy shower curtain. The lounge was well stocked with DVDS, CD's, books and games. The suite was very comfy too. We don't feel that the chalet was fairly described as had we known what was actually on offer we'd have booked elsewhere. The outside was very overgrown and tatty. We'd hoped the children could enjoy the space but it just isn't safe. The steps weren't even accessible. Disappointing.

"Caer Beris is a truly beautiful holiday lodge site set in thirty four acres of idyllic Welsh countryside. Set on the banks of the River Irfon, just outside the picturesque town of Builth Wells, the park is surely one of the most peaceful and tranquil in the region. The park does not have the facilities of many holiday parks, but prefers to ensure all visitors can fully relax amongst the lovely flora of the park, a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of normal daily life." There are no caravans allowed - sorry Rachel you seem to have missed something very beautiful. The 16 travellers before you had glasses half full.... Other children find the bunk an adventure, the patio is immaculate as the photos show , the grass in front is cut fortnightly and the photos also show the wild part of the garden which is deliberately kept as a butterfly haven. Yes the linen was new and fresh and perfect , yes the lounge was well stocked and comfy with free Wifi.. Yes it would be better if you could in the future manage to find something in such a lovely setting at such a tremendously reasonable price for 5 people.!!! I have no explanation for the "smells" just to say they certainly weren't there when I was. The shower works wonderfully too. The weather was glorious when I was there just before you arrived. I managed to drive up the mountain to the fabulous lavender farm. Not to be missed. It was a real blessing. I hope you had a safe journey home.

“Excellent value. Very peaceful.”

We booked to get away from the hustle and bustle for a few days and this was the perfect spot. It was very quiet and peaceful in a beautiful location. The children loved the foot bridge, river and wildlife and the Elan Valley is nearby with good walks, play area and café. The cabin was very well equipped and information clear. The children were grateful for the games and colouring books.

So glad you enjoyed your stay. You were excellent guests. Dee
