“Cosy, restful and peaceful”

Reviewed 17 Oct 2016

Study Barn Farm is a lovely converted barn in the centre of Bonsall Village. It is nicely decorated, very well equipped and easily accommodates 12 people. All in all a lovely cosy place with a lovely atmosphere, the big windows and open aspect made it very airy. The heating was fab which added to the cosiness. All the bedrooms were nice even though only one has an en-suite and the other 2 bathroom are shared. Practically there is not much work space in the kitchen but we weren't really that bothered as its manageable. It's well stocked with equipment and gadgets. Booking the barn was really easy and Jayne the owner was very responsive and informative. Just a few little niggles, the radiator in the main bedroom is really noisy. the downstairs shower by the front entrance couldn't be regulated so the mixer needs checking, and the lounge TV could do with being bigger. So nothing to complain about at all and would recommend to anyone as I'm sure the owners will take those on board. Nearby: The Fountain tea-room across the way, lovely breakfast reasonably priced, nice modern and welcoming. The Kings head pub, great atmosphere, fab food, fun environment, with live music on Saturday nights and Sunday is quiz night (bit hard for us numpties) The landlady is lovely. The Barlow Mow, a really quirky pub full of character well worth a visit. Both pubs a 5 minute walk. Nice walks into Matlock Bath where there is plenty to do and see. We rented for an army reunion and will definitely think about going there again.

Owner's reply: Thanks for your review Bev. I'm so glad you all enjoyed your stay at Study Farm Barn and the great amenities in the village. Thank you for mentioning the few little niggles you had as it is important to us to ensure all our guests enjoy their stay. The TV and more work surface space in the kitchen are already on our to do list and in fact the new larger TV has now been delivered and additional work space will be installed in the kitchen by the end of November. We were unaware of the problem with the radiator and the shower so thank you for bringing this to our attention. Hopefully see you all again next year. Thanks. Jayne

“Great place for a family gathering”

Reviewed 2 Aug 2016

I'd echo a lot of the positive sentiment noted in the review of the 11th July 2016 apart from the fact that we didn't visit Matlock and had glorious weather and a good barbeque (sorry! :)). We had a great stay with three families. Place was spotless and room distribution ideal. Thanks Jayne. May see you again next year... :)

“Great accommodation in a great location”

Reviewed 15 May 2013

A large group of friends, 12 of us, stayed in both of 'The Barns' across several nights and we found them to be fantastic and exactly what we needed. The rooms were clean and tidy, the beds were comfortable and everything we needed was provided. There was even complementary milk, eggs and orange juice! There was plenty of information regarding what to do in the local area. We went to the Barley Mow but unfortunately we arrived just as the live band were setting up so there wasn't enough room for all 12 of us, so we nipped across the village to The Kings Head where we were made very welcome and tucked into some fine grub! The Fountain Cafe down the road is also worth a mention too, great full English! Study Farm Barns are highly recommended, if I ever want to explore that part of the world again with family I'll be returning!

“Great location for exploring Derbyshire Dales”

Reviewed 15 Mar 2013

5 of us stayed very comfortably in Church View holiday barn. The accommodation was homely, very well kept, spacious and light, well equipt, spotlessly clean with bedding and towels included, an ideal place to meet up with family and friends for a break away from home. The friendly owners live next door and were easily approachable. Bonsall appears to be a friendly village, we visited the Fountain Tea Cafe, 1 minute walk down the farm lane, they sell tasty homemade cakes and have a varied menu of everything from snacks to meals. We also visited the beautiful village church which was open so you could see inside and have quiet time. There are 2 pubs in Bonsall and both close on Mondays out of season for food, so we went to Matlock Bath to The Balti - would highly recommend this restaurant. The KIngs Arms opens at 9pm for the bellringers and visitors after there practice night (monday). The owners of The Kings Arms and villagers made us feel very welcome and we had good evening meal there midweek, would re-visit if in the area again. The weather was fine but cold, we were able to visit many places in short drive times from Bonsall eg. Cromwell, Matlock Bath, Matlock, Bakewell, Buxton, Chesterfield and Chatsworth House, the countryside around has some beautiful views. We would recommend Study Farm Cottages as a first class peaceful location and would certainly stay there again if our plans were to holiday again in Derbyshire. Tip - if you intend to walk home in the dark carry a torch in your bag. Thankyou Jayne,Dave and Girls.
