Description from owner

Description

This converted barn is set in the courtyard adjacent to the owners farmhouse in the village of Bonsall. The whole property was originally the stable block to Study House and dates back to 1845. The carriage entrance and stone steps up to the hay barns are still intact.

It sleeps 12 in 6 bedrooms. 3 doubles, 2 twins and 1 bunk bed room. It has 1 en suite shower room and 2 family bathrooms.

It has a large private car park.

A HOT TUB IS AVAILABLE TO HIRE ON REQUEST which can be positioned in the private outdoor seating area. Please speak to the owner directly to discuss your requirements.

There are two pubs serving food, a tea room and a small shop all within 5 - 10 minute walking distance of the barn.

Bonsall is high above the wooded 'Via Gellia' gorge. With the lively towns of Matlock and Matlock Bath, 2 miles by car or a scenic walk through woodland. With superb walks from the door to the limestone moors above. It is ideally located for walkers but within easy driving distance of many visitor attractions.

The Barn can be booked with Study Farm Cottage (ref 201516) which is situated next door and sleeps 2 in one double bedroom, making the overall capacity 14 people.

“Fantastic weekend with family and friends”

Reviewed 4 Dec 2018

A really great barn that is clean and well equipped. Friendly owner who was really helpful prior to our visit. Would highly recommend this accommodation to any large group that wants a comfy place to stay with plenty of room and fantastic social areas with room for everyone. Would definitely book again but maybe in the summer - we had a LOT of rain

Owner's reply: Thanks for your great review. I'm glad you found the Barn to your liking. We would love to welcome you back in the summer so that you can make use of the outdoor seating area, hopefully in the sunshine!

“Great Barn Cottage in Lovely Village”

Reviewed 24 Oct 2018

Would thoroughly recommend the area and the Study Barn cottage. Well situated with two walking distance pubs and a local café at the end of the road and easy to get to various walks/cycle rides and local towns and other amenities. Thanks to the owners for the welcome and for excellent communication.

Owner's reply: I'm so glad you all enjoyed your stay at the Barn and all the local amenities. Thanks for taking the time to put on a review it's very much appreciated.

“Good for family get together”

Reviewed 23 May 2018

Friendly welcome and we were shown around the property on arrival. Room for 8 adults and 4 young children and lovely safe outside space to relax. We were lucky with the weather and able to BBQ all weekend , although we could have easily cooked in the kitchen. Bonsall is well placed for visiting Chatsworth and other attractions in this beautiful area, and a nice place to return to at the end of the day.

Owner's reply: Thanks for your lovely review. I'm so glad you all enjoyed the accommodation and had chance to relax in the outside space.

“A great stay, thank you!”

Reviewed 7 Apr 2018

The perfect place for our extended family, including lots of 2-5 year olds, to stay and have fun for the week. Stair gates made the upstairs living area very safe, and the outside space is fully enclosed, so the adults could relax! We explored the local area, but were also very happy to spend lots of time at the property. Loved it! Thanks Jayne.

Owner's reply: Thanks so much for that great review Jess. I'm so glad the children had fun and you could relax and enjoy yourselves too.

“Amazing place to stay for Christmas!”

Reviewed 28 Dec 2017

Really lovely accommodation with lots of space for all the family. All the rooms were really well equipped and homely. A big thank you to Jayne, the owner, for being so helpful - we had a great time! I would definitely recommend to friends and family.

Owner's reply: Thanks for taking the time to put on a review Isabella. I'm so glad you all enjoyed your Christmas with us.

“Perfect venue to make happy family memories”

Reviewed 16 Oct 2017

Just got home from a really great family weekend to celebrate 2 family 40th birthdays. The barn was excellent for us all, 2 families & me (Grandma). There were 4 children, all under 4, in our group & they really enjoyed sitting round the huge table together, & playing outside on the safe patio area with their scooters. My oldest grandchild was so pleased to be able to sleep in a top bunk bed at last. The barn was very clean & the beds so comfortable we all slept well. We were pleased to find that there were stair gates fitted which made us able to relax when the little ones were playing .Jayne was very friendly & was there to meet us & show us round & help us to decide which room would be best for the baby's cot. We were very pleased she had let us know about the road closure & had given us clear directions to find Bonsall. The six bedrooms meant we all had our own rooms & were not on top of each other, & the lounge accommodated everyone easily too. The village of Bonsall is beautiful & the autumn colours spectacular. The King's Head was very friendly, although we were a little disappointed that food was not served before 6.00p.m. which was too late for the children. The food in the Fountains Tearoom was delicious & the staff very friendly. We had a lovely brunch there before departing for home in our different directions. The area is fantastic for families & we enjoyed a day at Gulliver's Kingdom on Saturday. It was lovely to find a place large enough for us all to get together as this doesn't happen very often. We all rated the weekend a great success & would love to return again to Study Farm Barn in the future. Ruth

Owner's reply: Thanks for your review Ruth. I'm really pleased your whole family enjoyed not only your stay at Study Farm Barn but our beautiful village too. We would love to see you and your lovely family again in the future. Jayne

“An amazing place - highly recommend a stay”

Reviewed 29 Mar 2017

This has been converted to a very high standard. Very spacious and well equipped accommodation. Owner is extremely friendly and nothing is too much trouble (although nothing was needed during our stay). Nice local walks and local amenities for our stay. Lovely location . We celebrated a special birthday and anniversary with a party of 10 staying at the Barn and was more than ample space for everyone. Will be back for another stay. Thank you had an amazing break. Have already recommended to other people needing a larger property to stay in.

Owner's reply: Thanks so much for your lovely review Lynn. I'm so glad you all enjoyed your stay with us and we look forward to welcoming you all back.

“Cosy, restful and peaceful”

Reviewed 17 Oct 2016

Study Barn Farm is a lovely converted barn in the centre of Bonsall Village. It is nicely decorated, very well equipped and easily accommodates 12 people. All in all a lovely cosy place with a lovely atmosphere, the big windows and open aspect made it very airy. The heating was fab which added to the cosiness. All the bedrooms were nice even though only one has an en-suite and the other 2 bathroom are shared. Practically there is not much work space in the kitchen but we weren't really that bothered as its manageable. It's well stocked with equipment and gadgets. Booking the barn was really easy and Jayne the owner was very responsive and informative. Just a few little niggles, the radiator in the main bedroom is really noisy. the downstairs shower by the front entrance couldn't be regulated so the mixer needs checking, and the lounge TV could do with being bigger. So nothing to complain about at all and would recommend to anyone as I'm sure the owners will take those on board. Nearby: The Fountain tea-room across the way, lovely breakfast reasonably priced, nice modern and welcoming. The Kings head pub, great atmosphere, fab food, fun environment, with live music on Saturday nights and Sunday is quiz night (bit hard for us numpties) The landlady is lovely. The Barlow Mow, a really quirky pub full of character well worth a visit. Both pubs a 5 minute walk. Nice walks into Matlock Bath where there is plenty to do and see. We rented for an army reunion and will definitely think about going there again.

Owner's reply: Thanks for your review Bev. I'm so glad you all enjoyed your stay at Study Farm Barn and the great amenities in the village. Thank you for mentioning the few little niggles you had as it is important to us to ensure all our guests enjoy their stay. The TV and more work surface space in the kitchen are already on our to do list and in fact the new larger TV has now been delivered and additional work space will be installed in the kitchen by the end of November. We were unaware of the problem with the radiator and the shower so thank you for bringing this to our attention. Hopefully see you all again next year. Thanks. Jayne

“Great place for a family gathering”

Reviewed 2 Aug 2016

I'd echo a lot of the positive sentiment noted in the review of the 11th July 2016 apart from the fact that we didn't visit Matlock and had glorious weather and a good barbeque (sorry! :)). We had a great stay with three families. Place was spotless and room distribution ideal. Thanks Jayne. May see you again next year... :)

“Great accommodation in a great location”

Reviewed 15 May 2013

A large group of friends, 12 of us, stayed in both of 'The Barns' across several nights and we found them to be fantastic and exactly what we needed. The rooms were clean and tidy, the beds were comfortable and everything we needed was provided. There was even complementary milk, eggs and orange juice! There was plenty of information regarding what to do in the local area. We went to the Barley Mow but unfortunately we arrived just as the live band were setting up so there wasn't enough room for all 12 of us, so we nipped across the village to The Kings Head where we were made very welcome and tucked into some fine grub! The Fountain Cafe down the road is also worth a mention too, great full English! Study Farm Barns are highly recommended, if I ever want to explore that part of the world again with family I'll be returning!
