The England region

Described by the ancient Welsh Celts and the Saxons as the Land of the Summer People, Somerset is a county of captivating contrasts.
Its coast takes in long sweeping sandy beaches, seaside resorts, harbours and marinas, and the dramatic Exmoor coastline.
Venture inland to an epic countryside of protected landscapes, rolling hills, wild moorlands, ancient woodlands and wetland habitats, dotted with historic towns and villages.
At the heart of what makes Somerset tick is its distinctive culture and history that includes willow and cider making, great local food & drink, the legends of Kings Arthur and Alfred and much more. (www.visitsomerset.co.uk)

Beckington

Mentioned in the Domesday book, Beckington is a quiet but not dull village. There are 2 good pubs and a small delicatessen in the centre of the village and an award wining farm shop on the outskirts.
There are over 100 listed buildings with a thriving village and church community, tennis and cricket club.

“Perfect little cosy retreat”

Reviewed 16 Mar 2015

My husband and I stayed here for a weekend in the beginning of March. Initially I picked it as it was close to Frome and I thought we could visit the town for a couple of days and eat out. We only actually popped in to get some supplies as we found the cottage so nice we didn't want to leave! It was very well presented, the bed was really comfortable and the log burner was a joy! We had such a relaxing time. The 2 pubs were very decent with nice food. We went on a couple of walks around the area which were great. I would definitely return to Well cottage but perhaps for a longer stay next time! Also the owners were incredibly helpful and any queries were answered quickly, thank you Caroline and Pat!

“Amazing cottage in quaint village setting”

Reviewed 18 Jul 2013

Enjoyed a short stay at this well equipped beautifully appointed cottage. The village is very friendly with a choice of nice places to eat and drink. The nearby city of Bath is a lovely place to visit as are the surrounding areas. The owners Pat and Caroline were a pleasure to deal with throughout.

“Fantastic little cottage with great character”

Reviewed 1 Nov 2012

Surprisingly spacious kitchen/diner and fabulously comfortable beds. Very well equipped throughout. Parking easy on road at front of cottage. Tip - pack your slippers - lovely original stone floor in living room a wee bit chilly on the toes!
