The Powys region
Herefordshire is a beautiful rural county ideal for walking, pony trekking, canoeing, and cycling. There are also numerous companies offering more adventurous activities such as rock climbing high ropes courses etc. On a gentler note there are also many Black and White villages to visit where you can enjoy an unchanged rural scene and have a drink in a tea shop or pub. Hereford itself is an interesting city with the cathedral which houses the Mappa Mundi, possibly the oldest map in the world.
Herefordshire is bordered by the county of Powys which is also a beautiful county and more rugged area with the Welsh border market towns such as Knighton and Brecon (16 miles away) with the stunning Brecon Beacon Mountains.
Rothbury is in Cusop - Herefordshire but is only a few minutes away from the County of Powys. The Offa's Dyke path is five minutes walk away and Hay-on-Wye ten minutes on foot; the surrounding countryside is beautiful with rolling hills and unspoilt landscapes
Hay on Wye is world famous as the 'town of books' and has many bookshops along with a wide range of unusual and interesting independent retailers. Hay is unique that while our cinema became a bookshop our biggest bookshop opened a new cinema!
Hay on Wye is also home to the world famous literary festival along with the fringe festival 'How the Light gets in' at the Globe. There are many other food, music, and vintage and arts festival s throughout the year.
We are ideally situated for walkers - whether it's for a gentle stroll by the Wye or up the Offa's Dyke path onto Hay Bluff and the Black Mountains.
