About this location
The Lake District
The Lake District, also commonly known as The Lakes or (particularly as an adjective) Lakeland, is a mountainous region in North West England. A popular holiday destination, it is famous not only for its lakes, forests and mountains (or fells), but also for its associations with the early 19th century poetry and writings of William Wordsworth and the other Lake Poets.
Historically shared by the counties of Cumberland, Westmorland and Lancashire, the Lake District now lies entirely within the modern county of Cumbria. All the land in England higher than three thousand feet above sea level lies within the National Park, including Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England. It also contains the deepest and longest lakes in England, Wastwater and Windermere, respectively. (Thanks to Wikipedia)
Walks to Cartmel village (1 mile) and Holker Hall (3 miles), well known for its gardens, are set in lakeland scenery. Walking further up the valley one finds grandstand views of the Lakeland Fells. Cartmel, known for its old world appeal, is built around an ancient Priory. Although quite small, it boasts race course, pubs and restaurants including L'Enclume with its 2 Michelin stars, and many shops including the famous Sticky Toffee Pudding shop. There's even a speciality cheese shop and a bakery. The many attractions of this lovely area are within an easy drive. Golf and riding locally, as well as the well-known Motor Museum which now on the old Blue factory site at Backbarrow. Grange-over-Sands, a Victorian resort 3 miles to the south-east, has more facilities. To the North are the main Lakes within easy driving distance, with the Windermere Steamers leaving from Lakeside, which itself can be reached from nearby Haverthwaite using the Haverthwaite steam railway.

Woodland cottage has everything you could need. The only suggestion I would make is that the quilt cover didn't fit the bed, it was far too small.… More
We welcome this comment, and will look into it as with any issue raised by guests, though we are confused because it's a double duvet on a double bed. It's possible the wrong size (larger) cover was used in error. That said, we are planning to replace the double bed with a king size one - with a king size duvet.
