Golden Square Cottage has recently been converted from an old dairy. The cottage was designed to make the most of the amazing views from our hill top position. The view from the bedrooms and the large private deck are really special.
Finished to a high standard, with every detail carefully thought out. We've tried to be as environmentally friendly as possible, installing solar panels to provide hot water, using responsibly sourced wood for the windows and doors made by a local craftsman, and using eco friendly paints and finishings wherever possible.
We run a smallholding, so you are welcome to spend some time with us helping to feed the animals and collect the eggs. We can show you where to go to watch the badgers at the end of our woods, and give you books to read all about the amazing wildlife on our doorstep. Swallows nest in the barn next to the cottage, and depending on the time of year, you might be able to enjoy watching our rare breed pigs in the paddock below the orchard, or meet our friendly sheep in the field.

The Devon region
We are 20 minutes from the famous seaside town of Lyme Regis, with it's historic cob, great pubs and restaurants, including the renowned Hix Oyster and Fish House, the Lyme Regis Town Mill and many other attractions.
Also close at hand and within an easy half hour drive are Sidmouth, Seaton Branscombe and Beer. Beer is our family favourite, with great cafes on the beach itself, top notch rock-pooling and a lovely little high street to stroll along.
1.5 miles from the lovely village of Stockland, with it's pretty church and lovely walks across the beautiful rolling hills. We are 4 miles from Dalwood, a pretty village boasting the Tuckers Arms, serving really outstanding pub food. Axminster is just over 5 miles away, and hosts High Fearnley-Whittingstall's River Cottage Canteen. Just a couple of miles further is the River Cottage HQ. Honiton is 5 miles away and has a great range of pubs and restaurants, as well as a great range of antique shops.
Children are spoilt for choice with attractions including Escot, Crealy, Bicton Park and the Sidmouth Donkey Sanctuary within a half hour drive. We're just twenty minutes drive from Lyme Regis and the Jurassic Coast, with sandy beaches, lovely fish chips and ice cream, rock-pools and fossil hunting and fishing trips to enjoy.
The area is a nature lovers paradise, with National Trust's Golden Cap, the Offwell nature reserve, RSPB reserves along the Exe estuary and Neroche Forest close by to name just a few.

We stayed here the week before Easter had glorious weather. Cottage is beautiful, comfy full of mod cons with a hooooooge bed! In a lovely setting ideally placed for exploring all counties think we touched on Dorset Devon and Somerset in one day! We were made to feel very welcome by kath and family enjoyed watching the barn building hope the swallows are making most of it! All in all smashing place to stay came home worn out though especially our little dog but it was worth it! Would highly recommend and hope to stay again.
Thanks for the lovely review, we're really glad you enjoyed your holiday and got to make the most of the lovely weather. We hope you can visit again soon. Best wishes, Kath and Rob.

"Effusive but deserved review"
Just back from a
Thanks Babs and friends for the lovely review. It was great to have you, and we're really glad you enjoyed your stay. The polytunnel is up in the field now, so we'll have home grown veggies in a few weeks time to make life better for our vegan and vegetarian friends. It's so great to hear when people have enjoyed their Golden Square experience - makes all the hard work worthwhile. All the best, Kath, Rob and family.

"Beautiful, welcoming rural retreat, great for our young children"
We booked last minute for a four day stay before term started again. The property was beautifully presented, had everything we needed and we were really pleased with our break. Our children, 5 & 3, had the time of their lives, being allowed to explore the land, feed the chickens, stroke the cats and best of all feed the pigs. Katherine & Rob were great owners, with good local knowledge but above all letting us have the freedom to walk around their property. The house itself was clean, comfortable and furnished tastefully. The location was ideal for us, we spent most of our time at Beer. There was also a fabulous bridge just beyond the village that we found thanks to a map of walks in the house, that was our best day, just mucking around in the water and enjoying the scenery. Overall, a very relaxing and enjoyable stay. We will try to book again for summer 2013.
Thank you so much for your lovely review, it means a lot as we're just getting started, and lovely words like this are the best possible advert we could have. We're so happy that the kids had a great time exploring the farm. We hope to keep building the menagerie over time as we get the smallholding more established - umming and aahing about rheas, guinea fowl and goats... will have to see what Father Christmas brings us! We really hope to see you again next year, and we're very happy to offer a repeat booking discount of 5% per week. Wishing you a Happy Christmas and Peaceful 2013, Kath and Rob

"Lovely cosy accommodation in a superb location"
Goldern Square Cottage is absolutely delightful. Warm, cosy and very well equiped with everything guests could need for a comfortable stay in this beautiful part of Devon. Views from the cottage are superb and there are excellent walks from the front door There are plenty of good places to eat nearby and a nice local pub within walking distance. On our arrival we were met by the helpful owner with a delicious home made cake fresh from the oven, jt perfect to enjoy with a cup of tea in front of the wood burner.
Thank you so much for your lovely review, it means a lot as we're just getting started, so it's great to hear that we're getting it right! We're so happy that you enjoyed your stay and all the great attractions on our doorstep, and am glad that the slightly rustic looking cake found a good home. Wishing you a Happy Christmas and Peaceful 2013, Kath and Rob
