Location description from owner

The Algarve region

The coastline of central Algarve stretches from Faro to Portimao. Central Algarve beaches, although the busiest during the summer, still have plenty of room for everyone. A variety of fantastic beaches, from small hidden cove beaches to sandy beaches stretching as far as the eye can see. Beaches where the sea is calm and beaches ideal for water sports .... All washed by the Atlanic Ocean, surprisingly warm even in winter months. Whether you love the beach, golf, water sports, horse riding, hiking and / or bird watching, ... you will find the Central Algarve an ideal choice.

Flights from most countries are cheap so why not take a break during rainy and / or cold winter months?

The Algarve offers more hours of sunshine than most countries in Europe - even in midwinter you will enjoy a temperate climate of 15-20 degrees. It is probably also the most unpolluted region in the European continent.

The inland landscape varies dramatically for such a small area. From the coastal plain it goes up to the Serra de Monchique which has a subtropical maritime mountain climate with a very lush vegetation, so different from the rest of the Algarve. From this region comes the 'Medronho', a strong spirit obtained from the fruit of the strawberry tree. Highest point of the Algarve is Foia (902 m), above Monchique.

The panorama also varies with the season. Every month some tree or flower is blossoming. Starting with the almond trees in January and February, followed by the orange trees and the acacias .... wild flowers, the colourful and exuberant bloom of the bougainvillaea almost all year around.

Quite a lot of places are worthwhile visiting : Faro, Silves, Vilamoura, Loule, the little villages of Alte, Porches ... to name some ....

In the Algarve people live their lives outdoors. Enjoy the atmosphere, the climate and the food on the terraces of one of the numerous cafes and restaurants at the coast or inland.

Central Algarve

Loule is a bustling market town with 20.000 residents which grew thanks to tourism but has retained its original charm.

Loule Arabian style market hall is famous for it's Saturday market which spills on to the surrounding streets (fish, seafood, fruit, vegetables ...)

The Arab caste, dating back to the 12th century, almost completely destroyed in the earthquake of 1755 and restored in the 20th century, as well as the remaining walls are worth a visit.

Loule Carnival is one of the biggest events in Loule and is famous across the Algarve. It takes place in February and is truly colourful with music and dancing and general partying, reminiscent of Brasilian carnivals.

Loule is also a famous cultural centre with music festivals, concerts and many festivities being organized throughout the summer season.

In Loule you will find excellent supermarkets as well as banks, restaurants, bars and a modern hospital.

The city is conveniently located in the middle of the Algarve.

Our villa is situated at a 10 minutes drive from Loule, and at a 15-20 minutes drive from the lovely bay of Olhos d'Agua and the long stretch of golden sands with the red cliffs of Falesia beach that continues all the way to Vilamoura. The golf courses of Quinta do Lago, Vale do Lobo also only 15-20 minutes away. Easy to make daytrips to the Western Algarve (Lagos, Sagres, the beautiful and quiet Costa Vicentina), to the east (Faro,Tavira, the Spanish border) or even go to Sevilla.
