The Algarve region
The Algarve enjoys 3000 hours of year round sunshine, with long hot summers tempered by cooling Atlantic breezes. The coast is one of the most dramatic in the world, has over a hundred miles of beautiful cliff faces, picturesque rock formations and miles of unspoilt golden sandy beaches. Portugal offers a wealth of historic heritage sites, from Roman times onward. Flight time to Faro direct from UK is approx 2.15 hours and Fuzeta is 25 minutes drive from the airport. The Portuguese are friendly and very helpful and many can speak English. The Algarve is currently a value-for-money destination.
Tavira, 15 minutes away by car, is a must-visit town with its river -side location, Roman bridge, gardens, castle and camera obscura. You will find a 13th century castle, the old gate of the city, a Camera Obscura. The old market hall has been converted into a cafe/restaurant and craftshops' area. There are the numerous churches for which Tavira is famous and several stork's nests on the tall chimneys in the town. A picturesque ferry trip takes you to the island of Tavira from the riverside in the town, during the summer, or from the four aquas' jetty, in the winter. The Barril beach, which can be reached using its little train, close to Pedras del Rei, Monte Gordo or Monta Rota are often voted as the best beaches if you want to go further afield. There is a good shopping mall with a large supermarket on the far side of the town which is easily accessible by car.
Along the coast between Olaoa and Tavira, there are several small villages in the Ria Formosa which are well worth a visit; they have a laid back atmosphere, fishing and small pleasure craft to watch and excellent restaurants, we particularly like Santa Lucia.
There are water parks to the west, zoo marine where you can swim with the dolphins and go carting all within 55 mins drive.
Faro, the capital of the Algarve is a great place to visit for its history, particularly attractive is the old part of the city still surrounded by the Roman walls. It is the home to the city's archaeological museum. The "Golden" church contains the Macabre Spectacle of a chapel lined with the bones of 1,200 monks! Enjoy a stroll through the quaint streets and browse in a variety of shops, or simply while away the day relaxing in the cafes/bars. Down at the harbour watch the boats coming in under the railway bridge or fishing from the harbour wall.
Olhão is a busy modern town with an attractive waterfront. Its fishing port is the most important in the Eastern Algarve and its fish market is the biggest. It also has many shops, restaurants and an entire summer festival devoted to sea food. Olhão is very Portuguese, very Algarvian and very un-touristic. The pedestrian shopping area winds in cobbled streets through the moorish-looking old town to the waterfront with its markets, its cafe's, parks and sparkling views out over the Ria Formosa lagoons. From the pier, you can take boats to the island villages and beaches of Armona, Culatra and Farol - all great day trips. The official visitor centre for the Ria Formosa nature reserve is just outside Olhão. Its worth a visit to see: the restored tidal mill (of which there were once many in the Ria Formosa), the bird life, and the chance to spot the very rare symbol of the park, the Purple Galinule.
Olhão Seafood Festival takes place in August (about the 2nd week). It's one of the biggest gastronomy festivals in the Algarve with lots of delicious seafood cooked to perfection to tantalise the taste-buds! There is plenty to entertain you with live music every night.
Hire a bike and take the blue cycle route that runs along the coast.
Olhao recently opened a brand new shopping complex (Ria shopping) including 80 shops, a large supermarket,restaurants/bars and cinema. It also has a new Auditorium.
Fuzeta village, originally only a collection of small fisherman's huts for the storage of tools from fishing boats, has gradually developed and increased to a population of 2000. This ancient seaside village and bird watchers paradise is ideal for holidaymakers seeking a beautiful, unspoilt destination in the Algarve. Wander along the backstreet of traditional cube-shaped houses to discover shops, bars and cafes and relax over a drink before heading off to the calm Blue Flag beach on the lagoon, ideal for the younger children.
A 10 minute ferry ride takes you to the island and the extensive sandy beach with Beach bars and where parasols and sunbeds are available for hire. Here you can spend the day kite surfing at one end or just relaxing in the calmer waters in the opposite direction or simply walk for miles. Arrange to go island hopping and enjoy a relaxing lunch organised by one of the tour operators.
After catching one of the frequent ferries back to the village, how about sampling one of the many seafood appetizers whilst drinking a beer in one of the bars on the waterfront, watching the colourful fishing boats come and go, or enjoy a meal of fresh fish in one of several restaurants? Newspaper shops, post office, bank, pharmacy, butchers and the daily local produce markets are all in and around the main part of Fuzeta.
There is a market in Fuzeta on the 1st Thursday of each month and a flea market/car boot sale on the 1st Sunday of each month, were you will find lots of interesting trinkets as well as food and drink.
At night in the summer the squares are busy with families socialising, eating and drinking and there is usually some live music in one of the bars.
Fuzeta Railway Station is only an 8 minute walk from the apartment. The single line runs along the Algarve coast and stops in most of the towns, it offers good value and a scenic ride either to nearby towns or venturing further afield as far as Lagos in the west or Villa Real San Antonio on the Spanish border.
The accommodation is perfectly situated for golfers wishing to sample the excellent courses in the Eastern Algarve. Within a 20km radius there are 5 courses to choose from. The closest are Benamor and the 2 Quintas (Ria and Cima), they are very popular and can be reached within 15 minutes. The prestigious new course of Monte Rei designed by Jack Nicklaus offers the height of golfing luxury - although a costly experience, this is a real treat for golfing fanatics wishing to experience a little high life! Only 10kms further on towards Spain, Castro Marim offers challenging golf and its famous country club can be highly recommended. Additionally, the many championship courses of Vilamoura and Quinta do Logo are only a 40 minute drive away.
If you would like more information about the individual golf courses then please do ask.

"Relaxing family holiday"
We really enjoyed our week in Fuseta. The small fishing village is easy to find your way around on foot, and by bike which we hired one day. The restaurants are very good value for money, and the fish is delicious. We liked the Tapas Restaurante and Capris in the square, and some evenings there was open air music and dancing which added to the holiday atmosphere. The weather was hot and sunny so the apartment pool was the perfect way to cool down, our 12year old daughter loved it! The apartment is excellent and has everything you could possibly need. We especially enjoyed eating breakfast outside in the garden each day. The air conditioning was an added bonus. We would definitely recommend a visit to the island beach and to Faro by train. We had never visited Portugal before but we found Fuseta a lovely place for a relaxing family holiday.
It is great to hear that you enjoyed your holiday without using a car. Getting around using the train is easy and good value, and hiring bikes allows you to get to places not accessable by car.

"Home from home"
The apartment is extremely comfortable, clean and very well equipped. Wifi would be the icing on the cake. All of our dealings with Hilary the owner, Jane who looks after the apartment and Francisco the cab driver were easy, friendly and efficient. Fuzeta is ideal if you want a relaxed holiday where nothing is much effort. The locals are friendly and welcoming. We ate at the barbecue restaurant near the fish market nearly every day. It was very cheap and the food was excellent. The atmosphere Rui and his staff create is brilliant - it's like paying very little to join a big party! We can highly recommend the apartment and Fuseta.

We enjoyed every moment of our trip to Fuzeta. A lovely unspoilt traditional villiage in the heart of the algarve. The apartment was very well equipped and very safe for young children. The garden is an added bonus! The pool is fab with a lovely view over the ocean. The daily local fish market is lovely & the resturants are very nice with plenty of cafes/bars for a beverage. Everything is so cheap! I would recommend the apartment to anyone of my friends as we had a brilliant time and will return for sure.

"Peaceful authentic atmosphere"
The living area was actually larger than we had anticipated from the photos, which was a pleasant surprise. We had a very well-equipped kitchen section and were provided with all necessary extras such as washing powder, dishwasher tablets and cleaning products etc. It was also good to have some bathroom essentials provided as well as sewing and first aid boxes. The view from the large windows was stunning and we found the sound of the waterfall from top to bottom swimming pools, just over the road, very soothing. There was an efficient service from the property manager on site with easy contact. We were happy to shop in the village on a daily basis, but it was quite a walk back - others might wish to use a car to do a weekly shop. The village itself did not give the impression of being an obvious tourist area, which we enjoyed. We felt that we were getting an authentic Portugese experience and we enjoyed some lovely meals out. Prices were low, service was generally good and the food simple and fresh. In one or two of the cafes and shops English was not spoken, but we managed to pick up a little of the language and we got by. I found my limited Spanish not very useful for spoken language, although many written words were fairly similar. The beaches were easily reached, clean and fairly empty. There was a regular train service a few minutes' walk away which some of our party used to visit Tavira. Despite the slightly scary gap between train and platform, they were helped on and off with a buggy and toddler by willing locals. Overall we felt that we had a very relaxing holiday and would definitely visit again.

"Lovely, peaceful holyday"
We stayed in this apartment in Fuzeta for one week and had a lovely time. The apartment is equipped with everything you need, to cook and have a easy stay. It is really nice with young children, as everything is safe and the pool area is well suited for children and easy to access. The small city center is really nice with its restaurants and lovely beaches. Have the seafood! It is to die for! We look forward to be going back.

"Perfect holiday apartment"
This is a truly perfect holiday apartment: everything that we needed was there, and everything was clean, well-organised and clearly explained. The village of Fuseta is a short(ish) walk away and the apartment is conveniently close to the train station - so getting to Tavira is very easy. The pool at the apartment is very nice for an afternoon of sun-bathing, but the beach is the real winner.
We are pleased that you found everything in the apartment clean and well organised. We agree with you that the beach on the island is stunning and the short boat trip over is well worth the small fare.

"This Apartment offers everything you need and more for an excellent holiday!"
We are just back from staying in Fuzeta and can honestly say that the Apartment was perfect in every way. The owners have thought of everything, it is really well equipped and the garden is an added bonus, we spent most nights relaxing there with the kids and a BBQ. The location of the apartment provided a much needed week of relaxation and the area was totally safe for the children as there was no traffic. The town offers a taste of unspoilt Portugal with narrow cobbles streets where locals meet in the square in cafes, restaurants. The ferry over to the island with a picnic was a great day out, we also went on a fishing trip and also hired some bikes to explore. All in all a great holiday!

"We loved the apartment and the place."
What a wonderful place! Very quiet with a great view. Very well equiped. Fuseta is a small village with a genuine fisherman atmosphere, far from the confusion of the touristic places. We'll return there surely. .
Thank you for your review, we are glad that you enjoyed your holiday and enjoyed Fuzeta as much as we do.

"Wonderful, clean, fresh, well appointed apartment"
Located on outskirts of Fuzeta, far enough to be quiet, close enough to be convenient for bars/restuarants etc. Views across the lagoon and beyond to the sea. Apartment is well appointed, immaculately clean and has easy access being on the ground floor. Shared swimming pools close by the apartment complex is an ideal base for staying in Eastern Algarve and the railway station is a few minutes walk away offering regular services to Faro and beyond one way and Tavira and all stops to Vila Real de Santa Antonio and the Spanish border the other direction. Highly recommended.
Thank you for writing the review, glad you enjoyed your holiday.

"A home away from home in Fuzeta"
We enjoyed staying in this lovely apartment tremendously. I particulary enjoyed preparing dinner in the delightfully well equipped kitchen and using the gas powered grill in the garden. The beds were very comfortable and everything was spotless. The children had a lovely time and they loved the pool, so did the grownups because there is a rooftop dipping pool with a magnificent view of the Ria Formosa. Fuzeta was beautiful and just a 5 min walk from the apartment, lots of good restaurants, nothing flashy but good quality food and pleasant surroundings. The caretakers service was excellent and friendly and very prompt.
We are pleased you enjoyed your stay and thought that the apartment was comfortable and had an enjoyable time in Fuzeta. Thank you for writing the review.
