Description from owner

Description

Little Thatch is a cottage wing at Burgate Farmhouse (awarded the 2019 Certificate of Excellence from Tripadvisor & now HALL OF FAME status). The property is a 15th century listed farmhouse. It is situated about half a mile north of Fordingbridge town centre & is just a 5 minute drive from the edge of the New Forest & near the A338 Ringwood to Salisbury road, making it an ideal central location for touring.

Little Thatch has a front & back entrance, both with lovely thatched porches.

All the rooms are on the ground floor. The very large sitting/dining room has a wealth of beams & charm with its own inglenook fireplace (sorry, no fires though). There is 1 bedroom (beds are zip linked & can either be made up as 2 singles or a large double). There is a bed-settee in the lounge which increases sleeping facilities to 4. The colour TV in the lounge has Freeview & a DVD player. The bedroom has an extra colour TV/Freeview/DVD player. There is a lovely view of the garden from the bedroom. The bathroom is adjacent & has a bath with shower over & washbasin. It is accessed through the bedroom. The WC is separate (off the hallway).

Little Thatch is ideally suited for a couple or a small family.

The lovely new kitchen is well-equipped with microwave, full sized cooker, fridge/freezer & a breakfast bar with stools.

The back door (from the kitchen) leads to a secure yard/garden area - ideal for a dog.

There is no charge for bed linen (towels can be hired if wanted), cot or highchair. Other baby/toddler equipment is available to borrow (free of charge).

Well behaved dogs are welcome at a small charge of £7 per dog per stay. This can be paid direct to owner on arrival. (NB dogs not to be left unattended in property without prior agreement with owner.

Electricity is by meter (low charges).

A small charge is made to use the washing machine & tumble drier.

Heating is by storage heaters with 'top p' convector heaters where needed.

No smoking is permitted inside but is allowed outside or in the Games Barn.

There is plenty of space for parking on the large gravel area between the cottages & the garden.

The half acre garden is mainly lawn & trees & has a summer-house, garden furniture, swings & BBQ. There is an area for children's ball games with a football net.(NB the wishing well in the garden is ornamental only - no water only plants!)

Free WiFi access is available for your laptop.

There is a Games Barn which is a wonderful retreat for rainy days as well as being a spacious meeting place for larger parties. It contains a skittle alley, pool table, table tennis, dart board & lots of children's toys.

Nearby is the Surma Valley - an excellent & popular Indian restaurant & takeaway.

Why not book an online grocery delivery for the morning of your arrival (everything will be unpacked & put away for you).

Fordingbridge town centre is half a mile away. The George Inn, near the bridge, has a beer garden overlooking the River Avon & is good for meals & snacks.

Wishing Well cottage is also available to rent (sleeps 6+ in 3 bedrooms). If you have a larger group or extended family then this could work well for you.

Getting around

A car is the best method of transport. Bus is fairly easy as the X3 bus service has a bus stop within a 2 minute walk from Burgate Farmhouse. There is an open top 'hop on hop off' bus service which travels around the New Forest & operates from Jul to early Sept each year. Cycling is also a good means of travelling around. I can provide cycle route maps.

Interaction with guest

I am happy to provide any help that I can as regards 'where to go', 'where to eat' etc. I'm here to help whenever I can if wanted. Equally, I'm happy to just 'blend in' & be unobtrusive if guests prefer to keep to themselves.

“Great Cottage”

Reviewed 6 Sep 2015

Had a Mon-Friday break and was fantastic from start to finish. Location is a perfect base to explore the new forest and to the west of Fordingbridge. Christine, the owner, was absolutely brilliant - everything was covered: the cottage was totally a home from home. The barn/games room was a fantastic addition to the accommodation: filled with games / toys and literature of the surrounding area, it was a great break out space. Would definitely recommend and definitely go back.

Owner's reply: Thanks for your lovely comments about your stay in Little Thatch. I'm so glad that you enjoyed yourselves & hope to welcome you back another time.
