Description from owner

Description

As featured in the Sunday Time Home supplement dated November 23rd 2014 - A beautiful detached Cotswold stone cottage in one of the most idyllic unspoilt villages in an area of outstanding beauty in Gloucestershire. The cottage is nestled on the edge of Eastleach on a small No through lane. A beautiful south facing garden suitable for entertaining at least 10 people for dinner outside and 8 people in the dining room. A fully equipped modern kitchen with a large rage oven. There is in addition to the upstairs bathroom a downstairs WC , a log fire place ( with an abundance of logs in the garage), oil fired central heating and a very modern bathroom upstairs. There are the most amazing walks just by the side of the cottage, beautiful pubs within walking distance and the little towns of Lechlade and Burford with 6 miles drive of the cottage.

“Disappointing”

Reviewed 9 Nov 2016

The cottage is beautiful and has so much potential, but compared to the description and the photos it was disappointing. The garden was very weedy, with no washing line and felt unkempt. Whilst appreciating this is the owners holiday home, the fridge, freezer and cupboards were full of frozen food, half open jars etc and this made it feel kind as though we were intruding in someone's house. The place was surface clean, but oven and behind sofas etc were quite dirty and the bathroom really needs upgrading - we really didn't want to touch the shower curtain that was falling off the wall. It was clear that the rubbish hadn't been collected for weeks as the black bin was overflowing. I had to spend time sorting other people's recycling out and squashing other people's rubbish into the bin to fit ours in. The cottage was listed as 3 bedrooms, which is a bit in the generous side. One of the beds is effectively on the landing. On the plus side, the village is gorgeous and the cottage externally looks pretty. The owner was quick to reply with queries. Huge potential, but ultimately disappointed.

I am sorry that you were disappointed in the cottage. I think the previous tenants had been rather 'rough' on the bathroom and that has now been fixed. Washing lines are not something that I would put up in the garden there is a drying rack upstairs in the cottage. In my description of the cottage I am very clear about the fact that the 3rd bedroom is a walk through single room leading onto the twin bedroom. Condiments , jams, spices and teas are left for everyone one to use - I am often asked if I have these things or do guests need to bring their own. Usually the cottage is spotless but I had to use different cleaners for 2 weeks whilst my cleaner was on holiday. Rubbish in the villages is collected once every 2 weeks and bins cannot be emptied more often than that.

“A picturesque cottage in an idyllic location”

Reviewed 19 Jan 2014

The three of us stayed at Rose Cottage for a weekend in September. After a relaxed Saturday lunch at the cottage, we went for a pretty walk and then drove in to scenic Burford. Wonderful dinner in a nearby pub and then slept like a log in the complete peace and quiet in contrast to the noise of London. Too cold to use the outside but we made a lovely fire and spent a lazy Sunday morning reading the newspapers followed by a big lunch prepared in the well equipped kitchen.. On the way home, we went to the huge Garden Centre outside Burford. The cottage is very comfortable and the kitchen has all the necessary mod cons. While retaining all the old 'Cottage' charm, everything has been modernised and works well - wifi is an added bonus. Would happily come again.

“Beautiful, well-equipped cottage in an enchantingly pretty village.”

This cottage has been furnished to a really high standard with great flair and feels more like a home than a holiday cottage. A small entrance hall leads to a remarkably spacious interior. We comfortably seated 8 for dinner, and the kitchen had all we could possibly need. The two bedrooms were very comfortable and we slept like babies in the peace and quiet. The village is a delight to explore, and every turn of the winding lanes gave picture-book views of Cotswold stone buildings, churches and river. It snowed during our stay and the village looked quite magical, but it was bliss to get back to the log fire in the cosy sitting room.

“Christmas in England”

A lovely cottage located a short drive from Burford. Lots of things to see and do - Beautiful walks, great pubs and villages for strolling around. A lovely break away in a stunning part of England.
