“A lovely place to stay in a beautiful area of France.” A group of friends and I have stayed at Barrusclet for a week in each of the last two years.
The farmhouse itself is perfect---comfortable beds, plenty of space,a games room, laundry, lovely grounds for eating outdoors and a heated outdoor pool, well fenced and safety-gated to keep children safe.
The area is beautiful----vineyards and sunflower fields; local chateaux, churches, villages and markets to visit; and the undulating countryside is perfect for stress-free cycling. Canoeing and horse-riding is also nearby.
It's so good----14 of us are going back again this year...!!!
“Everything, and I really mean everything, to the last detail provided to ensure a perfectly memorable stay” We were a party of six family members all male, five" fortyish" and one senior who stayed at this vacation rental for four days . Our main purpose was to visit various sites connected with World War 1 and to do some shopping and general tourism.
All the arrangements for the stay and the booking procedure went very smoothly. We picked up the keys as arranged and arrived at the Farmhouse around 1630. To say Farmhouse is somewhat of an understatement This rental was more like a mini private estate completely walled and private. Everything that had been told us prior to our booking was true to the last detail.
This was December and the weather wasn't the best. We had thought that as the area is quiet we might be at a loss for something to do but no. There was such a supply of books, videos, music, maps ,board games that not once did we turn on the TV. Table tennis was provided in the main house so this was a further activity. We could not believe that such a high standard could be achieved in a rental. In fact we had a little competition after the second day to see what we could find that might be missing and not provided, if there was anything that was out of place but after a short time we just gave up. Everything that we could possibly need was there. There was so much room in the house that everyone could enjoy private space.
Some members of our party are excellent cooks and with a supermarket just five minutes away together with two butchers shops we were able to stock up with all provisions at very reasonable prices. The kitchen had all the equipment necessary and we were able to run off meals of a very high standard. As for dining all was provided in the way of cutlery etc. so that our table looked like a setting in the Ritz! Conversation at meals and after was enlivened by quantities of excellent wine also locally sourced. As we were able to provide such catering we did not visit any of the local restaurants which we were told are excellent. Guides and maps again provided showed us exactly where these establishments were located should we need them
As to the area this is ideally located and just over an hour from the main places connected with both World Wars so this was excellent from our point of view If pleasant rural scenery is your goal then Delettes is in an ideal position to meet your needs. The sea is just 45 minutes away.
For shopping well just 40 minutes from Calais and all the wineries and hypermarkets as well as small shops are all to hand.
Obviously in December we did not use the swimming pool but if we had been a little more energetic we could have made use of the outdoor court for handball, badminton or used the trampoline.
At any time of the year this rental would be superb for family groups or for groups such as ours. We were six persons but the farmhouse could accommodate up to 12 persons easily
through the use of the extra beds also provided and still not be overcrowded..
From the initial contact with Nick Hamilton through to the moment we locked up on leaving everything ran like clockwork. This vacation rental must be one of the best ever!!
“Perfect, relaxing break in a beautiful house in a beautiful setting - exactly what we hoped it would be” We had an amazing time at this lovely farmhouse near Grand Brassac. From the moment we arrived it was exactly what we had hoped for and more, made even better by the owner Lizette who was really lovely, friendly and welcoming - she even supplied a little welcoming hamper of some nice bread, cheese, jam, beer and wine, and some little easter eggs as we were staying over the Easter break.
We were 2 families staying with 3 children and 5 adults - the house was just the right size for us, especially handy that it had 2 bathrooms. It was clean and well kitted out - plenty of games for entertainment (pool table and ping pong were a real bonus and the table football went down well too!) and a lovely woodburning fireplace, which we made use of because the first couple of nights we were there were still quite cold. The kitchen facilities were more than adequate so we could cater easily for ourselves, we even made use of the BBQ one evening. The pool was open for us to use aswell which was quite hard to find when I was looking for a proprety; this was the only one out of about 10 properties I looked at that had a pool that was open before May and was heated. It lived up to the expectations and the kids spent the majority of their time playing in the pool. Luckily the weather was lovely so the adults were more than happy to relax around the pool with them with some music and drinks. We only stayed for 4 days but could have happily stayed for longer, we definitely didn't make the most of the beautiful countryside and the surrounding area. There isn't much in the close vicinity except lovely countryside and some small villages (I think there are things like kayaking you can do, but as we were only there for a short time we didn't explore all the options). A little further away there are some bigger towns which a few of us visited on one of the days, and there is a supermarket within 15 minutes, which is open on a Sunday morning which is a benefit.
We definitely intend to return to the farmhouse and to stay for longer next time, there were bikes available for the guests to use which all looked in good condition and would have been a lovely area to go riding around. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a relaxing break in the French countryside - perfect for families, couples of a group of friends.
Thanks Lizette! See you soon...
