“Great converted barn in the heart of the French countryside” A sympathetically converted well proportioned barn in the heart of the Dordogne, the perfect destination for friends or a family group that want to get away from it all and enjoy everything the French countryside has to offer.
The barn is beautifully furnished and is obviously a much cared for family home. It has all the mod cons and plenty of extras to keep friends or family entertained, even down to a garage full of mountain bikes.
We were warmly welcomed and the operation of everything we might need listed in some detail. A great vegetable and fruit garden was in full production and we were told to help ourselves. We had great fun picking our own food and preparing it in the lovely kitchen and then enjoying it at one on the many tables outside the property, placed to make the best of sun all day round.
All in all this was the perfect holiday and we would recommend it to anyone. A big thank you to our hosts Jeanette and Neil.
“The most relaxing and peaceful holiday we've ever had.” A lovely barn, homely furnished and well equipped situated in a peaceful village close to Brantome.
We have stayed at the "Barn" three few times now and have booked to go again on June. Part of the barn houses the bikes, tandem and canoes (which we used on the river) and the cycling there is wonderful, lots of quiet lanes. Brantome is a super town with a fantastic market where you can buy local produce and fresh fish. The narrow streets and abbey has a lot to offer including an Aldi where we buy our wine.
The location is very quiet with several acres of ground giving very peaceful surroundings -sitting outside with a drink in the evening watching the sun go down listening to the cicadas is a perfect end to the day. Definitely hooked now and we've always had good weather!
“A wonderful gite in a peaceful location” As with the other reviewers I have no hesitation in giving this gite 6/6. It must be the best equipped gite we have ever stayed in and Brian and Hilary are great hosts, their main concern simply being that you have a great holiday, which we did.
“Lovely house with lots to do” A very good house with plenty of room for the five children in our party to spend time indoors on a rainy day. The kids loved the bikes in the games and spent hours on end cycling with minimal supervision because the house is located on a secure site with minimal traffic.
There is also lots to see in surrounding towns. Fougeres castle and town are a definate must see.
“A french gem in a beautiful quiet village” We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful gite, it had everything that you could wish for in a holiday let and catered for all of our family including a young child.
It was so well equipped, spotlessly clean and decorated with a rustic french charm.
I would highly recommend this accommodation and of all the places I have stayed I think this is definitely the best.
Crazannes the village is quiet but charming and a great base for visiting the surrounding area such as Cognac, La Rochelle and Royan.
“superb accomodation. brilliant hosts. great holiday.” The barn exceeded our expectations, very cosy with everything needed, in a beautiful location, lots to do, places to visit, countryside meets coast., best of both worlds.
David and Sarah and family were great hosts and willing to go above and beyond to help at all times.
A most thoughtful welcome pack awaited us which was gratefully recieved.
Highly recommended and will be back at some time. Many thanks. Malcolm and Hazel.
“A stunning barn set within lovely grounds” On arrival at La Vieille Etable, we were greeted by a picturesque French barn. The interior is spacious and modern with exposed beams throughout. We found the welcome pack a lovely touch, with wine already in the fridge and other necessities such as tea, coffee, fresh milk and even dishwasher tablets for those lazy evenings!
Inside we were spoilt for choice in terms of space, with fantastic open plan living downstairs and 4 big bedrooms upstairs. The evenings could get a little chilly, so the wood burner in the lounge was certainly put to use. The barn was extremely clean and tidy in every room, and maintained to a high standard.
Whether you are sitting on the decking or relaxing down by the lake, the barn benefits with having unspoilt views from every angle. Our 2 dogs loved the amount of space there was to run around and explore. By evening, a glass of wine whilst lounging in the hot tub certainly finished the days off well. We were lucky on a few occasions to have clear skies, and could see shooting stars.
The surrounding area has lots to explore, with plenty of pretty villages to see. One evening instead of cooking, we arranged for a 3 course meal to be delivered by Sam, a local chef. The food was incredible and only cost £15 per person!
Overall, a fantastic break in a lovely location which we thoroughly enjoyed. We wouldn't hesitate in recommending the barn to our friends, and we are already planning our next holiday.
