Although this 200 year old cottage was awarded 4 stars to sleep three people, extra sleeping is available by the use of a double futon in the sitting room. The futon would need to be folded back after use to enable the sitting room to be used. There is also a small fold out bed in the second bedroom that would accommodate a child. Bedding is provided to cover all sleeping arrangements. The property was totally renovated a few years ago an has been owned by the same family for at least 150 years. Heol Giedd is a stone built cottage on the edge of busy village of Ystradgynlais, a short distance away from Brecon National Park, with the River Tawe meandering outside the front door. The centrally heated property , is fully equipped with washing machine, dryer, full size cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, bedlinen, towels, cutlery , china, kitchen utensils to facilitate five people if required. It is ideally situated for walking the Brecon Beacons, exploring the caves or taking in the beautiful beaches of the Gower Peninsula. The village of Ystradgynlais has all you might need for a self catering holiday but neighbouring villages provide good pubs and eateries, takeaways, etc. Local shops within walking distance, can provide almost everything you might require including film showings, etc., in the Welfare Hall (look out for "What's on at the Welfare Hall" advertising banners) but larger supermarkets are a short drive away. There is a small private garden, ideal if the weather is good for sitting in the sun with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine.

The Powys region

Ystradgynlais is a busy village on the edge of the Brecon National Park with the Beacons and good walking country a short distance away. Visit the Dan y Ogof Caves or Craig Y Nos castle with its lovely grounds or drive in the opposite direction to reach Swansea and the bustling Marina, with Mumbles and the stunning Gower Peninsula a bit further on. A drive across the Black Mountains, park the car and take a walk - sheep may be your only companions or maybe mountain ponies. Visit the majestic Carreg Cennen near Trapp, with its tea room and craft shop, or one of the several waterfall sites. There is always lots going on in The Welfare Hall in Ystradgynlais, the showing of the latest film, ballet or orchestra recitals beamed in from across the world. Of course everyone knows about the Brecon Jazz Festival and the bookshops in Hay on Wye - a nice day out.

Ystradgynlais

Ystradgynlais is in the Swansea Valley and was once a busy mining town.

"Lovely homely cottage"

The cottage is really welcoming and well equipped. With a pretty garden in a peaceful location yet just a short stroll from the village centre, it ticks all the boxes. Good road links means it's easy to get around to see the sights too. My dog stayed with me and there are walks to be had all around including one of the managed forests (left out of cottage to main road, straight over and walk the road until it becomes a track. At the end is a path that leads up to the beacons. You can drive this otherwise it's a 30min walk). Would definitely go back

Thank you Kerry for your kind review. So pleased you enjoyed your stay and hope to welcome you again. Kind regards.

"Home from home"

We stayed here for the week of our wedding. Our wedding was at Craig Y Nos castle which is only 10 mins drive from the cottage. The close proximity to the castle meant that we were able to take all our wedding outfits up to the castle about half an hour before we could get into our rooms there. It meant a stress- free wedding day. The cottage is located on the edge of the village which has a good pub/inn/ restaurant at the bottom of the road and a selection of shops and banks etc. the cottage itself is very well equipped with everything you would possibly need. it was very clean and modern and felt really homely. I would definitely recommend it.

Thank you for your review, much appreciated. W
