The Powys/Brecon Beacons region
A place steeped in history and magnificent in its natural beauty with so many things to do. The history of Rhayader is famous for hoards of gold Jewellery, the Rebecca Rioters and infamous Salmon Poachers, the Old Market Hall and present day livestock markets, the Tannery, the Town Clock, the River Wye walks and the Bwgy stream.
Please watch the Rhayader movie:
More Information on things to do: Nearby is the Elan Valley Reservoir Visitor Centre - a must for walkers and sightseers and cyclists will enjoy the scenic cycle track which runs from Rhayader to the dams - bikes can be hired in Rhayader. The Red Kite Visitor Centre close by is also a must. These beautiful birds of prey are fed daily here - a truly memorable display. Llandrindod Wells is a short drive – a charming spa town which has an open air market, small individual shops, hosts the world famous Victorian Festival at the end of August, the National Cycle Museum, with weird and wonderful bicycles. Builth Wells is also nearby – the bi-annual Royal Welsh Show is held here, and there is an arts centre. The mid Wales Shakespeare centre (Living Willow theatre) is a short distance. There is excellent walking close by and to the west and north the Cambrian Mountains are still one of Wales' most special places - a peaceful, largely unspoiled landscape. For days out, Hay-on-Wye with its world famous book fair is just under an hour away, the Brecon Beacons National Park for well trodden walking routes, or Poppit Sands, Aberaeron South beaches.

"perfect, peaceful and welcoming."
My elderly mum and I came for a quiet holiday in the countryside and was delighted to find a warm welcome from Del with the kettle on! Dolwen is perfect for people with mobility issues(wheelchair friendly) but also for large families where Granny comes too and enclosed for children(mind the wildlife pond though). It is perfectly situated for seeing Red Kites and Elan dams.long walks and fresh air! Rhyader is lovely with a river walk and plenty of good eating places. We are back in 2013 and can`t wait! We recommend Dolwen to all,the owner and Del next door are so helpful.Yes you need a car to get to eat out etc. but the tranquility and beauty are second to none and we love it!
