Our Facilities and Nature Trail
Indulge your imagination as you absorb the natural beauty and tranquil setting whilst you wander along the picturesque nature walk . Follow the wending stream where all you are likely to hear are kestrels and skylarks, as they soar above. Sit and watch the wildlife ponds which are teeming with life as you relax and recharge in this haven of peace.
Start your journey in the orchard, which has been recently replanted with a collection of traditional cornish apple trees. Our peaceful nature trail is suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.
A babbling brook meanders through the grounds, past the wildlife pond and continues along the picturesque nature trail, which is a DEFRA assigned access, recognised for its archaeological interest and unique setting. This nature trail leads you through a beautiful valley of dramatic stone outcrops and blossoming gorse. In the Spring, the bright yellow gorse and white blossom of the blackthorn contrast with the stunning grey slate rocks. Later in early Summer the hillside is adorned with purple foxgloves and you will discover dainty violets hiding in the undergrowth. After nearly half a mile of wending stream you will be delighted at the discovery of another wildlife pond, playing host to a wealth of pondlife, including dragonflies, striking turquoise damselflies and swallows as they dip and dive across the shimmering water. Otters are a regular visitor to this pond, you will find their 'spraint' on nearby rocks.
Along your journey, you will find original granite gateposts, traditional Cornish stone hedging and wonderfully contorted trees that provide a home for mosses and lichen that only grow in pure air. Beyond the pond, there are remains of two ancient stone enclosures which are circular features, best viewed from the hillside. It is not known quite what these enclosures were for or when they were built but we welcome suggestions!
If you wish to continue your journey, join the nearby footpath which leads to St. Clether Chapel and its ancient Holywell which is considered to be the most beautifully situated of all shrines in Cornwall.
On site facilities include:
9 hole pitch ‘n’ putt set in an acre of meadowland
Games Room with table tennis, pool table and gym equipment
Free video and DVD library
