South Wales is reknowned for it's breathtaking scenery including nearby Brecon Beacons and the beautiful, wild landscapes and beaches of the Gower Penninsula which is just over an hours drive away. There are many other places to visit in the surrounding area Including spectacular castles and ruins and fascinating historic sites such as Caerphilly Castle, St Fagans Museum of Welsh Life, Tredegar House, Llancaiach Fawr, Llanerch vineyards, Dan-yr-ogof showcaves and for book lovers, the historic town of Haye-on-Wye.

"Great little property"

The previous favourable reviews are accurate. The cottage is attached to the landlords house, where Rob and his family (including a large, I believe, Afghan dog) reside. The gardens and driveway are t… More

Thank you for your review, we always appreciate receiving feedback good or bad from our guests. We feel on this occasion there are a number of points we need to respond to.

The property, as stated on the website, has its own private garden which is completely separate from the rest of the house and is gated to prevent any unwanted meetings with our dog Beryl, who is incidentally, a very gentle Newfoundland, and not an Afghan, She is rarely seen by guests unless they wish to meet her.

The village and our house is set at the foot of the beautiful Garth Mountain and within walking distance of the Taff Trail and Castell Coch. We feel that this makes it rather more than 'functional' and this comment is perhaps due to the reviewer only spending just one rainy night with us.

The Wi-fi usually works fine and we have had guests stay for several months, relying on an internet connection for their work with no complaints. That said, if we had been been informed there was an issue we would have addressed it immediately.

Thank you again for your positive comments regarding the service you received. We look forward to welcoming many more guests to our lovely village

"Home from home"

Thank you to Rob for a lovely stay at the Railway cottage which we really enjoyed. The location is so pretty and ideal for visiting Cardiff but also perfect for lovely walks and scenery.
We enjoyed a delicious meal at Fagins pub which is a stone throw away. Would highly recommend a stay here.

"A gem!"

A lovely, clean, tidy place to stay. Everything you need is in the cottage and it was the perfect size for 2 of us.
Just a short train ride into Cardiff, which is the main reason we stayed here.
The cottage is perfectly located near to the Taffs Trail - great for walking or cycling, and I would recommend Umber and Siennas Art Cafe just off the trail in Taffs Well. Beautiful!
We had a great days cycling to Caerphilly Castle and Castle Coch.
Unfortunately, there is nowhere dry to store bikes, so make sure you take bike covers with you.
The local pub Fagins, - just 70 steps away- is fantastic! Good food, good beer and great atmosphere. We didn't manage to try the other establishments as we loved this one so much!
A truly great place to stay, I would highly recommend it and can't wait to go back there again.
