Walnut Cottage has a completely new Farmhouse style kitchen, which is fully equipped and has plenty of counter space for guests who enjoy cooking. It includes a six burner Rangemaster stove, integrated fridge and dishwasher plus a full range of kitchen utensils and appliances. There is a second American style fridge freezer in the utility room off the kitchen, along with the washing machine and tumble dryer.
The living room is very spacious and includes a well stocked library and a supply of board games to suit all tastes and ages. There is a 40 inch flat screen TV and DVD player, with a selection of movies available as well as Digital/Freeview. Logs are provided for the high efficiency wood burner, which is set into the original inglenook stone fireplace to create a truly cosy country feel. The wood burner heats the room, but it is really more for effect since there is full central heating and under floor heating throughout the main floor of the cottage.
Upstairs there are three bedrooms, the master bedroom has a super king size bed, the second bedroom has a king size bed plus a flat screen TV and DVD player. The third bedroom has two single beds, one of which can be removed to accommodate a cot for a baby. There is also plenty of space to add a cot in either of the other two bedrooms. Each of the beds has feather pillows, superior down duvets and high quality pocket spring orthopaedic mattresses. There are new oak floors throughout the upstairs, which perfectly compliment the original exposed beams of the cottage. All three bedrooms have sunny south facing views over the extensive garden which is completely private.
The main bathroom of the cottage is upstairs and it includes a large, walk in shower, a separate double ended bathtub and an oversize heated towel rail. There is a contemporary styled second bathroom on the main floor of the cottage, which also includes a generous walk in shower.
Children of all ages are welcomed at Walnut Cottage and the following items are provided free of charge: toys and books suitable for children aged 5 and under, a cot/crib with bedding, baby monitor, bed guards for the single beds, high chair and two Captains chairs suitable for children who no longer require a high chair but need to be raised to reach the dining table (age 2 and up).

Walnut Cottage faces due south and is exceptionally sunny, being located in one of the sunniest parts of Britain. The cottage is set in a acre of typical English garden which is mostly lawn with mature trees and flower beds. It is surrounded by fields, orchards and farm land on a quiet country lane which is a dead end, meaning it has virtually no traffic except tractors heading to the fields at the end of the lane. There are views of the countryside all around and especially stunning are the views of Glastonbury Tor, which is easily seen from the neighbouring fields.
The Somerset countryside is generously interspersed with well marked Public Footpaths, the closest of which runs along the far end of the property.
There is a large patio area outside the kitchen door. A barbecue and outdoor furniture is provided and guests have enjoyed sitting outside from April to October and beyond as the front of the cottage is sun trap. The fields close by the cottage are home to chickens, sheep, cows, horses and a friendly donkey. There is an abundance of local wildlife around, including foxes, rabbits, deer and badgers which can often be seen, especially in the early mornings or evenings.
The Property Managers of Walnut Cottage live next door, and they are available to respond to any queries, deal with any problems which arise with the property and ensure guests experience a relaxing and enjoyable holiday.
The Somerset region
Somerset is set in the heart of the West Country, well known for its farm land, orchards and rolling green hills interspersed by pretty villages where traditional English pubs cater to locals and visitors alike. Many pubs serve Somerset cider, known locally as "scrumpy", and it has been made the same way by generations of farmers.
Cheddar cheese originated in the Somerset market town of Cheddar, which is also well known for its awe inspiring limestone caves and gorge set in the Mendip Hills. Cheddar Gorge has been named as the second greatest natural wonder in Britain, attracting over 500,000 visitors each year to the gorge and show caves.
Barton St David
Somerset is famous for the sheer diversity of places to visit. There are castles, abbeys, museums, classic English houses and gardens, not to mention animal attractions, natural features and a whole myriad of other interesting things to do and see.
Some of the best known attractions which are local to Walnut Cottage include the ancient market town of Glastonbury, with all it's magical mysticism set against the backdrop of Glastonbury Tor. Right in the centre of the town, set in 36 acres of beautiful Somerset orchards, are the stunning ruins of Glastonbury Abbey which was once the largest and richest Abbey in England.
There are numerous local festivals and activities which run throughout the year. Highlights include the Glastonbury Pilgramage in June, the world famous Glastonbury Festival in Pilton and the Glastonbury Extravaganza in August. The Somerset Carnivals come to the area in mid November and draw crowds in the hundreds of thousands from all over the country. In September, the Somerset Art Weeks take place every second year with over 200 open studio events showcasing the best of the South West's art and craft scene.
Further afield, at around 45 minutes drive, is the historic Roman city of Bath, designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage City featuring the Roman Baths and Bath Abbey. A similar distance away is Stonehenge and Salisbury Abbey, both of which are world famous attractions.

It was a joy to stay here, everything was just perfect and nothing was too much trouble for the owners. The quality and the cleanliness of everything was wonderful. This was our 2nd visit and I really can't think of a bad thing to say. It is ideal for couple, adults and families. We had our daughter and son with their families over for a BBQ one Sunday and the garden and toys for the children were great and the owners were so accommodating just great. Our first visit was in December 2010 and we were snowed in and even that was good!!
