Il Duomo Apartments Salerno. Hiking to the Amalfi Coast
Beautiful Salerno!

This was our first holiday in Italy and we are so pleased we chose Salerno. It is a beautiful area and so close to visiting many a must see amazing places. Our host Adriano was so helpful and because of this we found our way about very easy, thank you Adriano. We will have to return as a week wasn't long enough, just so much to do and see, can't wait to return!see more

Loved Living local in Salerno

Lilliana's apartment was a wonderful kickstart to our Italian vacation. As mentioned in previous posts her hosting ability is exceptional. Our flight to Rome arrived late and we were very late arriving in Salerno, then got lost on top of that. Lilian and her husband waited calmly and patiently at 3:00am to meet us and show us the way in to the flat. Which in hind site is very easy to find. I would recommend getting better directions and street names prior to arrival. Lilian explained how to work everything and showed us on maps how to get to different tourist sites and gave excellent recommendations in English. This is more important than I realized, as the next location we rented, the caretakers did not speak English and it was very difficult to figure out the simplest things like what to do with the trash. The bakery that Liliana recommends and also provided sampling of is fantastic and just past the bridge on the right hand side. We bought a whole plate of assorted small pastries and cookies for 5 euros. As to the flat itself, all of the furnishings were exactly as pictured. The kitchen was much better equipped than expected, with a large selection of high quality pans and a safe. As to a previous reviewer stating that there could have been more toilet paper, we found an entire package, more than adequate for our stay. There is some small amount of train noise, but it did not bother us as the VERY convenient access to the metro made this place the best location ever. We were a little slow in figuring out where to catch the train. If u stand at the bedroom window and look out you can see the train track. Go out of the apartment and go under the bridge, take the first path/road (road dead ends at bridge) to the left and you will see a big M. We were looking for a big station and the only thing you see is this m . You buy the tickets around the corner in the little tobacco shop. Once we figured it out, it was easy , running 2 times an hour, and brings you right to the main train station in town for 1 euro.which is also just a couple of blocks from where you catch the ferry to positano and Amalfie. We kept our ticket stub and showed it to the station attendant inside the main station to figure out how to get back to the apt. I loved staying at this apartment as we felt like we were living like locals. The markets are all within a couple of blocks. Most of these shops close at 9.By the time we left the salami guy was waving at us on the street. I would have liked a balcony, but we just pulled our chairs out front and had wine there looking like crazy tourists, but no one minded. Don't miss Salerno.see more
PALAZZO D'ORSI
Large space well divided and equipped, very supportive and warm welcoming;

Two stories farm house space that may host varied needs families or group, located out of the main city but in the center of the village by the grocery and greengrocer. Very friendly and helpful hospitality. Large and nice outdoor space. Passage to the 2nd floor (the main) by spiral stairs which is a bit disturbing.see more
Isabella House with Roof garden
Good sized, well equipped, comfortable flat in central location.

The flat is on the 6th floor of a building with a balcony and impressive views. It has 3 bedrooms and two bathrooms. The second utility bathroom is equipped with a washing machine and our clothes dried very well on the line on the balcony. The flat's position is a real bonus. There are two 'express' kind of supermarkets very close by and a range of other shops and cafes. It is about a 20 min walk down the hill to the sea front and a similar walk to the railway station. The old town is slightly nearer, again down the hill. We would not necessarily describe ourselves as the fittest of people but we managed to walk back up the hill quite a few times. We did, however, take a taxi back from the railway station when we had spent a day in Pompeii and our legs had had enough and that came to 10 euros. Another time we caught a bus. Lines 7 and 17 serve the area but do not bring you out exactly on the main road (Via Carmine) in front of the flat due to the one way system. The owner is very friendly and goes out of his way to ensure that the stay is running smoothly. The flat is well equipped and we found the wi-fi to be very good. I wholeheartedly recommend this flat to others.see more
Holiday Seahorse
Lovely Apartment. Perfect Base For Expolring Amalfi Coast

This apartment was an excellent base for exploring the Amalfi coast. The apartment was spotlessly clean, beautifully furnished and everything has been thought of for a comfortable stay with a lovely homely feel. The bed is very comfortable. The host, Flavio is very helpful and welcoming whilst respecting your privacy. Salerno is a large, busy town and the apartment is in a residential area, quiet as in no noisy bars, major roads etc but regarding other comments here if you want silence staying in any Italian town is just silly. The historic centre is around 15 mins walk down a busy shopping street as is the main shopping town and the seafront. Local beach is around 20 mins. There is a hill but it isnt that bad and you know it's a fourth floor apartment when you book. The price reflects this. Parking is easy and free nearby, we always found space. Buses go from nearby to the Amalfi coast, boats around 20 mins walk. Tip: If driving get a small car and make sure you have Satnav that works. We are good at navigating but Salerno has more one way streets than any town we have ever visited, virtually every street is one way with no obvious logic. It is seriously unfathomable even after a ten day stay. Getting anywhere involves a complex navigation of the maze. Satnav takes you straight through so easily. Flavio kindly came out to meet us when we got lost. We, ahem, later found the hidden Satnav menu in our hire car! Good supermarkets are nearby. We travelled around mainly by car. The driving is fine, surprisingly laid back if you adapt to local ways but not for the faint hearted. It is vital to use the mirrors mounted on every bend on the coast road and listen for bus horns. Parking is expensive on the coastal route at 2 euros per hour or 3 at weekends but you can be lucky on the outskirts of towns if you are happy to walk. Just check the signage carefully. Avoid te coast road at weekends in summer if you can, far quieter on weekdays (in June at least). Vietri (good nearby beach) always had space on the coast road downhill just beyond the town.see more
