This was cottage was fantastic. Immaculately presented and a thoughtful welcome package full of lots goodies. Helen was a brilliant host and made the extra effort to make sure everything was ok. Book this place for lovely pubs, beautiful walks and wonderful scenery.

“Excellent little retreat”

An amazing cottage with an amazing host, only complaint would be the main road. The breakfast package was so thoughtful and more than sufficient to keep us happy! Helen is so thoughtful with the little details and made our stay really enjoyable.

“Beautiful little barn”

Reviewed 15 Nov 2017

We stayed here for 2 nights with our dog, and purpose of our trip was walking and pubs! Firstly the location is beautiful. Lots of pubs within walking distance but still felt really rural. Helen was very welcoming and shared some really useful info, then left us to it and the barn felt nice and private. The ‘breakfast pack’ is far more than just breakfast, and was very generous and much appreciated! The barn itself is lovely and cosy, immaculately clean and full or character. We loved our stay here and will definitely be back.

“Cosy Base for exploring the peaks......”

Reviewed 6 Nov 2017

Great communication with Helen prior to and on the day of arrival, She's a lovely person and makes you feel very welcome and at home, also arrived to find a very nice breakfast hamper with Tea & Coffee etc also available, a nice thing to do. Chestnut Barn is very clean, cosy and welcoming, with everything you could want whilst away. A great little hide away for exploring the surrounding area (we walked the Monsal Trail starting at Monsal Head) and further into the Peak District. A very nice pub that allows dogs, with also a chip shop in the village (closes at 8pm on a Friday) and an indian restaurant / Take Away a little further up the road. Myself, Sarah & Bailey the goldendoodle really enjoyed our 2 night stay, thank you very much Helen.

“We fell in love with Chestnut Barn!”

Reviewed 4 Sep 2017

This is a delightful cottage! So full of character and quirks yet cosy, comfortable and very modern. Helen and Pete are wonderful hosts who were always happy to help or give recommendations when needed. Many people have mentioned the generous breakfast pack, which was very much appreciated. As were the cold beers when we returned from our first walk/ adventure, very hot, tired and thirsty Stoney Middleton is a great base for a stay in the Peak District

Owner's reply: Thank you so much for your great review and the lovely comments in our guest book it is much appreciated. Also I must thank you for leaving the barn so clean and tidy, you are most welcome back any time.

“Relaxing, friendly stay in an amazing location”

Reviewed 2 Nov 2016

First of all the location is great with lots of great local wàlks and close to many of the key tourist places including Chatsworth house (don't forget to visit the farm shop too), Boswell, Buxton and the caverns. The village is small but still has a nice local pub, great Indian restaurant and amazing fish and chips at the toll house. Helen was an amazing host, friendly and very welcoming supplying us with a lovely breakfast hamper for the week. The accommodation is small but cozy but more than adequate and served its purpose for us. The only slight negative was there is no closed off garden which may be an issue for those with large dogs but of course there are plenty of walking spots on the doorstep.

Owner's reply: Thank you for your lovely comments, it is much appreciated, and we are planning to have new secure gates in Spring 2017.
