“Winchelsea cottage”

Reviewed 11 Feb 2018

Relaxing place to stay. Just as advertised. Cottage was clean and well looked after. Very peaceful area.

Owner's reply: Thanks for the review. We're glad you enjoyed your short midweek break, and managed to play a little volleyball in the indoor pool as well as use the hot tub - ideal if the weather is a little 'changeable'. We hope to see you again sometime.

Excellent relaxing retreat. Clean all facilities and everything one could ask for. Would go again and recommend.

Owner's reply: Thanks for your review - short and sweet, but I appreciate your great feedback, and hope to welcome you again soon! As you are looking to buy in the area you will already know what a special part of East Sussex this is with so much on our doorstep: a varied coastline, beautiful villages and historic towns, and many National Trust properties to enjoy, but there is still so much more to see and do if guests can stay longer...

“A faultless place to stay, brilliant.”

What a gem, Peter and Karen will make you feel so welcome. It's a lovely cottage down a quiet country road so peaceful, but a short distance to Winchelsea and Rye. There isn't anything overlooked it's all there for you in the cottage plus a swimming pool and jacuzzi for your sole use and a couple of great pubs both serving very good food. Our recommendation is that we will be back there as soon as possible. Thanks Peter and Karen for all you did to make our stay wonderful.

Owner's reply: Many thanks for your very positive and thoughtful review. Karen and I like it when Blackthorn or Cedarwood are booked to celebrate an occasion. It's an opportunity with the help of little extras to make it even more special and memorable for the guests - in the way we'd like our special occasion to be. Enjoy the rest of the summer, and we look forward to seeing you both soon - once the hips and knees have been fixed! It was great to meet you.

“Fantastic”

We had a fantastic time. The hosts we're amazing, lovely home, loved the pool and jacuzzi and the views we're amazing. The chicken and ducks eggs were lovely too. Thank you so much. Alex and mark

Owner's reply: Hi Alex and Mark. Thanks for leaving such a nice review, and we hope you'll think of returning sometime in the future - but next time for a little longer: 2 x nights are just NOT long enough, and this area has so much to offer in good weather. Karen and I visited the Robin Hood Boot Fair this morning at the top of the lane, and later this afternoon I plan to walk to the Queen's Head pub at the other end of the village to enjoy Creole Jazz performing live in the sunshine... It's a good life, and one we want to introduce to others!

“Absolutrely fabulous break”

We had a wonderful stay at Blackthorn, in Icklesham near Rye. it was the perfect setting great accommodation, including exclusive use of hot tub and swimming pool. The accommodation includes a veranda with a wonderful view, it was great for breakfast and also an evening glass or two of prosecco. Lots to do locally, beaches, great pubs for eve meals and a good pint. We also visited the Kent and East Sussex steam railway journeying to Bodium castle enjoying a lovely cream tea, (make sure you pre book this) on our return journey to Tenterden. Rye is well worth a visit to stroll around and take in the history. We enjoy walking and Hasting Country park and its coastal path provide magnificent views. Peter was a great host kept in contact with us during our booking provided local OS maps to help us with our walking excursions and has lots of valuable local knowledge. Highly recommend a stay here for either pure relaxation or more active break. We had great time, thanks..

Owner's reply: Many thanks for a truly comprehensive and complimentary review. The Kent and East Sussex railway to Bodiam Castle is a perfect day out, and can be combined with a boat trip either there or back to make it even more memorable. Your cream tea sounds like a great idea. Perhaps I should make a list for guests of all the great tea rooms dotted about the are?. If you should return to Blackthorn then another steam experience is the delightful 1/3 scale Romney Hythe & Dymchurch railway that runs along the Kent coast starting from the unique environment of Dungeness and ending at the beautiful old town of Hythe. Thanks again for the great review, and enjoy the rest of the summer!

Fantastic place to just unwind and relax Very helpfull owners The pool and hot tub were great as was the cottage You hVe everything you need and a couple of good pubs with food nearby Would go back again asap

Owner's reply: Many thanks for reviewing your stay at Blackthorn. It's great that you were able to enjoy the facilities and the weather was particularly ideal for it. Yes, we are very fortunate to have two pubs locally that both do good home-cooked food. The Robin Hood is the closest and as you appreciate is only a walk down the lane so guests can leave their car at the Blackthorn car park, as you did. We hope you'll return again soon. Thanks again for taking time to review our holiday cottage.

“Ideal for what I wanted”

Reviewed 6 Jul 2013

Everything was just right. I needed binoculars to see the nearest house from the south facing veranda. After a day out the hot tub was so very relaxing. The hosts were very welcoming and helpful and were there if needed. The eggs from their own hens and ducks were fantastic. All in all a lovely peaceful place to stay and although I do not usually return to somewhere I have been before I might just make an exception in this case. There is still so much I want to do in the area.

“excellent stay”

Reviewed 19 Mar 2013

Stayed with my partner and had a very enjoyable time. Directions were spot on and access was quick and easy. Cottage was clean and tidy. Lots of local information available on where to go and restaurants, TV with SKY, radio and cd/dvd player along with games and books. Bed was comfortable and room well decorated. My only nag would be for a darker blind but would not stop me staying - which we have already booked for this year. Hot tub and pool are great. Hosts are friendly and helpful We were recommended this cottage and we have recommended to other friends who have since stayed and re-booked

Blackthorn was such a wonderful, picturesque, romantic get-a-way for myself and partner. Was a perfect 1st Christmas with my partner, We will definitely be visiting again. Location was superb and we received such a lovely warm welcome from Peter and Karen; the local people were very lovely too. The accommodation was very clean, modern and cosy. We would definitely recommend to everyone. Thanks for a perfect Christmas. :-) xx

“A perfect start to 2013”

Visited with my girlfriend at the start of January. Absolutely top-notch accomodation in a beautiful location, with the added bonus of a pool and hot-tub! The owners were very friendly and welcoming and provided a wealth of local information. Perfect spot for getting out into the countryside and away from the stress of the city. We will be back in warmer weather!
