Getting around

The historic houses of Haddon and Chatsworth & the market town of Bakewell can be visited on foot, by bike or by car. One of the pleasures of Daleside is that many walks can be made straight from the house.

Interaction with guest

I like guests to feel the house is their own from the moment they arrive. If additional advice on places to visit, walks, history or details about the house are requested I can be easily contacted throughout the stay.

“Break from the normal”

Reviewed 20 Mar 2018

We chose the cottage to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The cottage is ideally placed in a small village with a local pub which serves great food. This was a godsend as we got snowed in on our last day. The cottage itself is fantastic, we were snug as a bug as the snow fell. The position of Over Haddon is great if you have some walking boots, as there are many walks in the area. The local town of Bakewell has everything you need from shops, pubs and restaurants. If you want to try a Bakewell pudding or Bakewell tart, where else would you buy them ? We had a great weekend, even with the snow falling, I would recomend the Cottage to anyone wanting to get away from it all.

“Perfect retreat”

Second visit as could not better it!! Views are stunning, no need to move from veranda but with so many stunning walks on the doorstep, you would be silly not to explore. The cottage is perfect, especially the log burner for the evenings after returning from the local pub We will return next year and stay longer!!!

“Lovely cottage with beautiful view”

Quaint cottage tastefully refurbished to create a warm, cosy atmosphere set in a quiet village with fantastic views of the Lathkill Dale. We walked through the dale to Alport which was very pretty. We have never visited the area before and really loved the variety of fantastic walks. So much to see and do that we are rebooking for October. We highly recommend this cottage and the location.

“Fantastic rural retreat”

What a fantastic week we had at Daleside cottage. We went with our two dogs and it was everything we could have asked for and more. Perfect country cottage with a cosy feel and beautiful views. Lovely walks from the doorstep and Bakewell only a short way away. The owners were extremely helpful and everything I was looking for from a break in the Peak District I found at Daleside cottage. A perfect holiday spot and we will definitely be returning again. Highly recommended.

“What a treat!”

A really lovely cottage, beautifully furnished and really well located. Stunning views from the patio and a pretty garden, too. We had a really relaxed week, enjoying fantastic walks from the doorstep, relaxing in the cottage and making the most of the tea room (gorgeous cakes!) and the local pub which serves a good range of meals and offers a great selection of gin and beer. Our dogs loved it, too.

“Lovely cottage in beautiful part of the country”

Had a lovely winter week relaxing here and exploring the beautiful White Peak area - fantastic walks straight from the doorstep (recommend Lathkill Dale to Monyash and lunch at the Old Smithy!). Had a bit ot trouble getting used to the storage heaters, but Christine was very easy to get hold of to advise. Loved the wood burner. Didn't really want to leave...

“Wonderfully relaxing”

We were created with a beautiful cottage with stunning views including a bottle of prosecco cooling in the fridge. A perfect welcome for a relaxing holiday. Very accommodating for couples with dogs who loved the long walks up the hills!

“Just Perfect!”

We LOVED Daleside Cottage. The interior is so tasteful and cosy. My favourit spot was at the dining table in the kitchen, as it is bright and friendly and the views are fantastic. The kitchen had everything we needed. The lounge was cosy with a great fire place. We loved the master bedroom, as the bed was comfortable and everything was bright and friendly. The oudside terrace was also great to have tea or lunch and to enjoy the views. I was never bored of the views... Communications with Christine the owner was also very good and we knew everything we needed to know. There is also a map with dinner suggestions, which we found very helpful und we can also recommend The Manners in Bakewell and The Packhorse in Little Longstone. It was the perfect cottage for us and it offered more than we expected. If we come to the Peak District again in the future, we will definitely stay at the same cottage, as I miss it already.

“Wonderful cottage, wonderful location and the best walking holiday we've had”

Reviewed 14 Sep 2015

This was our first holiday in the Peak District and what an incredible holiday it was. The cottage was a real find - beautifully decorated and furnished in a lovely setting with a private garden overlooking the dale. Evenings reading warmed by the wood burner were magical. Great walks from the cottage to nearby villages and along the river meant a truly relaxing start to the holiday before exploring further afield. We loved the variety of walks and countryside, very friendly people everywhere we went, and great pubs! Altogether a perfect walking holiday - can't wait to go back.

“Comfortable peak district cottage with lovely views”

Reviewed 12 Sep 2015

Really enjoyed our stay, cottage was spacious & comfortable with all facilities we could want. Slept well in peaceful surroundings. Lovely views, really enjoyed breakfast on the patio area outside with lovely peak district views. Front room is cosy, kitchen & dining area has good facilities, bathroom and bedroom are good size and helped us enjoy a very pleasant stay. Pub in village well worth a visit, good food. So near to Bakewell it is a great base for exploring Peak District, near to Chatsworth, Castleton, Matlock all easy to drive to. Property is lovely & well maintained and was a pleasure to stay in.
