Description

Cragowlet has been completely renovated over a period of 6 years and the work was completed during the summer of 2014. The renovation involved repair and restoration of most of its original features. During this restoration the opportunity was taken to upgrade the kitchen and bathrooms to modern standards whilst retaining the feel of a grand Victorian property.

The house contains three full sized bedrooms with one twin and two doubles one of which is en-suit. The bathroom contains a bath as well as a separate shower with a 1 meter square shower tray. The lounge has 8 foot high bay windows with views over loch long. The kitchen/dinner also has views over the loch and full dining facilities for six people.

The flat possesses magnificent views of the confluence of Loch Long and The River Clyde and beyond to the Cowal peninsula and the isle of Arran. Cragowlet House East retains its defining architectural features with ornate plaster cornice work, 'period' fireplaces, plaster corbels, architraves, skirting and sash & case windows.

Location description from owner

The Scotland region

Description of region

Kilcreggan

Cove and the neighbouring village of Kilcreggan were mainly developed during the 1860's. They were developed as the popularity of the Clyde Steamers increased as a means of transport. Many Glasgow shipowners and merchants made their summer retreats there, and this is reflected in some very grand houses along the shore. To give an indication of the people who lived there at that time James Templeton was the owner of Knockderry Castle (one of three castles on the shore rd.). James Templeton was the owner of the largest carpet manufacturing company in the word at that time. One of his friends, Andrew Carnegie, was the richest man in the world at that time and visited him frequently at Knockderry. It was during one such visit in 1901 that he penned his famous offer to fund New Yorks libraries.

“Fabulous”

Reviewed 9 Nov 2016

We loved our week long stay at Cragowlet House East. The house is fabulous, attention to detail is second to none. The views from the house are amazing. Brian and Nancy are excellent hosts and go out of their way to ensure their guests have a lovely stay. Would definitely return to stay, hopefully again soon. Thank you again Brian and Nancy and also for the welcome pack which was there upon our arrival :)

Hi Andy/Linda, thanks for taking the time to give us such a glowing review; especially since it has been months since your stay. Hopefully next time you come we will be here to greet you in person. Brian

We had a fabulous time in your beautiful home. Our whole experience from arrival to departure was first class. Welcome pack was a lovely touch. Everything was perfect including the weather. Thanks again Brian and Nancy we will definitely be back. Linda

Hi Linda, thanks for taking the time to give us such a fabulous review. Sorry it has taken so long to respond but the TripAdvisor notification seems to have went missing. Glad that you had such a great time with your Australian relatives. Happy to have you back any time. Brian

“Very beautiful & very comfortable house, stunning views from windows, beach & nearby play park ideal for children.”

Reviewed 24 Oct 2016

We spent 4 days in Cragowlet House East & cannot fault a thing. The owners Brain and Nancy have worked so hard to make the house perfect. We had plans to go for away days during our stay but actually appreciated relaxing in the house and garden instead. There is a little beach across the road which was perfect for rock-pooling & skimming with the children. We also tried a little fishing and Brian was kind enough to lend us some fishing gear. There was also a newly furbished childrens' play park nearby you can get to by foot and a gazebo for parents to sit in & enjoy the stunning views while the children play. We hope to stay again soon as we would definately go back to Cragowlet.

Glad you and the boys had a nice time at Cove. Thanks for the great review and we hope to see you again .☺

“Lovely home”

Reviewed 6 Oct 2016

Spent the weekend here and had a great time. Brian and Nancy have put so much hard work in to making this a lovely home. Everything about the home is 5 stars, everything is perfect. There's everything you need in the house and more!! We will return back when we can both get time out from work. Thank you so much Brian and Nancy x

Hi Lynne, We are so happy you enjoyed your short weekend but you do need to get yourselves organised and book a long weekend :-) Love to have you back any time.

“Beautiful accommodation in lovely location”

Reviewed 4 Sep 2016

Cragowlet House East is very comfortable accommodation in a beautiful setting. There are wonderful views over Loch Long and plenty of walking from the front door. The apartment is close to Loch Lomond, Helensburgh, Glasgow, Inverary, and much more. Plenty to see and do. The accommodation is comfortable and very tastefully decorated to reflect the abundance of period features. The kitchen has everything you need to cook and entertain. A beautiful period property with all modern conveniences. We hope to return.

Glad you all enjoyed yourselves and would welcome you back any time.

“Excellent couldn't have chosen a better place to stay :)”

We had a wonderful week staying at Cragowlet House East. The house was stunning and so were the views. Brian and Nancy were so helpful from our initial enquiry right up until the end of our stay and also went to the trouble of leaving a welcome pack of goodies at the house for us on our arrival. Thank you Brian and Nancy. Would definitely stay here again cannot recommend it highly enough 10/10

Thanks. Its great to hear people have enjoyed their stay and appreciate the little extras. Come back soon.
