The Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park region
Dunbartonshire is the gateway between the Clyde estuary, with its rich industrial heritage, and the rugged highlands to the north marked by Scotland's first National Park, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs.
The abrupt change of scenery from lowland to highland is marked by the highland boundary fault line, a geological coming together of two historic continents to form Britain as we know it, manifested in a series of linear islands within the southern part of Loch Lomond which are rich in natural heritage.
Aside from the plethora of outdoor and sporting activities around and about, we are spoilt by an abundance of nearby cultural and historical attractions which celebrate our area's history, past and recent, and its importance in shaping Scotlands place in modern society.
Tourist information is provided in the cottage for a huge variety of places to visit such as castles at Stirling and Dumbarton, museums and galleries including the superb Kelvingrove Art Galleries and Riverside Museum (transport) in Glasgow, and marvellous houses such as Rennie Mackintosh’s Hill House in nearby Helensburgh.
For those interested in the world of whisky our nearest distilleries are Glengoyne (the slowest distilled single malt) and Auchentoshan (triple distilled), both of which offer award winning tours.
Curlew Cottage is superbly well placed to explore this wonderfully scenic area. Outdoor and sporting activities abound with golf, walking, cycling and water sports well provided for locally. Scotland’s two largest cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh are easily accessible and provide many wonderful diversions including excellent museums and cultural interest. The iconic Loch Lomond is within walking distance and one of th best views of the Loch is from Duncryne Hill, the top of which is just 20 minutes walk from the front door.

"a wonderful eco house"
A delightful and comfortable house with a large double room (space for a cot, provided) and a generous double room. Imaginative conversion containing all that one might need for a holiday - we had a lovely time there. The holiday was organised by the 'children' so I have little knowledge of the nitty gritty of reservation etc
Pleased you enjoyed your time in The Old Dairy and that you had such a comfortable stay in the cottage. We're glad your family had a great holiday here and enjoyed exploring the area. Best wishes Deborah

We highly recommend this lovely cottage with great views across the fields to the Campsies. The cottage is very comfortable, warm and well equipped. The kids loved it and wanted to stay! The welcome pack was very welcome indeed and a lovely touch. The kids really liked the fresh eggs and checking for them too. The cottage is in an excellent location if you want a base for exploring Loch Lomond and the Trossachs. Also recommended is a trip up the Dumpling nearby, The views of the loch and mountains are superb.
Thank you very much for such a lovely review and we are so glad your whole family enjoyed The Old Dairy. It's great too that the children enjoyed their 'low food miles' eggs from the hens. Thank you for coming to stay. Very best wishes, Deborah
