    Duke's Cottage, Aberfoyle
    Would totally recommend this cottage.

my husband, self and wee dogs stayed for 3 nights in this cottage which is in the centre of Aberfoyle with everything close by. The cottage is small but very cosy and clean. I loved the terraced balcony, even although it rained a lot it didn't stop me sitting there. All the people that passed by were very friendly and stopped for a chat. If I plan to return to Aberfoyle I would definately book Dukes Cottage again. We had a lovely time see more

Fabulous over night stay at Nether Glenny

Wasn't entirely sure what to expect. The pictures on line looked fabulous but you're always a bit wary of accommodation but we were not disappointed. The cottage was beautifully decorated & spotlessly clean. A pleasant surprise was that the owner Alison also allowed us the use of the smaller, one bed roomed cottage (this too was beautifully decorated). We only booked for one night (an alternative Christmas night out to going to a hotel for a party night) & the group decided that packing up two cars with food & booze was the way forward for us from now on for our Christmas celebrations! Alison the owner was very friendly & was patient & accommodating when it came to me e-mailing her about early entry into the cottage (we did get in early). There are dogs that live in the main house (blue picardy spaniels I think & we were lucky enough to get a hold of one of the pups) & a very friendly cat which made its way into the cottage during the night (we left a window open just to let some fresh air in) & made itself comfortable until the morning. We'll definitely be back here & I'd go back with my husband & our dog for a night or two too. The surrounding scenery is stunning. The wifi signal wasn't brilliant but that didn't bother any of us. Couldn't fault the cottage, the surroundings or the owner! see more
Charming Victorian Gate Lodge to Duchray Castle
Great charming little cottage in superb surroundings but ...

Having had a week in this lovely place I feel compelled to write a short review about this. So first of all the cottage itself is quite lovely and well presented. First impression is superb and the view that you are presented with is fantastic. There is a long drive across a bumpy backroad and you should drive carefully to avoid damage to your car and the bombs can be quite ferocious. The cottage inside was clean, well presented and has everything you would need for a weeks holiday. You have a little fridge, a cooker, oven, washing machine and a wonderful log fire that you can used. That said things are not that perfect sadly. We staid there and this as a family of 5 so 2 adults and 3 small children. As you would expect children will get up to some mischief and so they played a bit with the firewood that is stacked outside. Whilst I can understand that this should not happen what we did not appreciate was the fact that the owner or proprietor accosted my wife whilst she was playing outside with my eldest son alleging that we had left rubbish lying around. My wife responded that we hadn't left rubbish around and that indeed the only thing lying there on the grass was a bottle of water, which my son was using to drink from. When I approached him later to clarify he still insisted that rubbish was lying around, which was just not true. There were some sticks lying around but please these are kids and if you offer child friendly accommodation then you will have to deal with kids not leaving everything absolutely perfect. Thats life!!! Anyway - we apologised for the 10 bits of kindling they had taken and we cleared the lawn on a few sticks the kids had used. This kind of approach, whilst perhaps only minor in some people's eyes, left a bitter after taste for us. We had wanted to book the cottage again for christmas/new year but after this we decided not too. On a further note the mattress in the master bedroom wasn't that great and probably needs to be replaced at some point but the kids mattresses seemed fine. The cottage has been recently renovated and overall looks pretty good. The water is slightly yellowish which was a surprise for us but a quick research showed that it shouldn't be dangerous but it does make you think twice when looking at it. All in all it was an enjoyable stay and we obviously spent most of our time taking in the scenery, visiting attractions, hiking and all those other good things that you would expect to do whilst in such a beautiful place. Aberfoyle is gorgeous and worth exploring, offering a multitude of small shops, some gorgeous cafe's and nice bars and restaurants. see more
