Description

Self catering river-side cottage in rural County Down

This is an opportunity to stay in a really ecological cottage, set in a very attractive location right beside a river, in the grounds

of the owners converted Mill. The cottage was featured in Living Design Summer 2010 and was built with

hemp-crete walls and a grass roof. A short film is available on YouTube for those interested

in the innovative construction.

Our visitors really enjoy the generous internal & exterior spaces which are

designed to enjoy the space and light with a simple and natural style.

It has 2 bedrooms, one with a double bed and one with bunk beds. There is

level access throughout the cottage and the shower is a level access wetroom

(no bath). There is underfloor heating throughout, and it is a very

comfortable environment due to the high levels of insulation. There is also a

wood-burning stove.

The cottage has a sun-filled veranda on two sides

west-facing veranda to catch the evening light. The house is set in a natural

attractive garden with young orchard and vegetable plots, and has access to

the river bank with diverse bird and wildlife.

So come to this restful place and fall asleep to the sound of the river.

Location description from owner

The County Down region

The Cottage is located in County Down, which is rural as well as having coastal and mountainous areas. It is also convenient to access Belfast to the North.

Downpatrick

The cottage is located on the periphery of an historic estate, so benefits from the mature trees and gentle landscape. We are located on the banks of the Ballynahinch River which is a very special setting, teaming with Wildlife.

We are just 6 miles from Strangford Lough ( Killyleagh) and within 30 mins of several other lovely beaches.

“Fabulous Stay”

Reviewed 27 Apr 2015

Would highly recommend this gem of a cottage for anyone exploring the beautiful County Down coast and countryside. Cottage is warm comfortable, very spacious and well equipped. A lot of thought and attention to detail has gone into the design of this unique environmentally friendly building. Lovely grounds right by the stream, and if your lucky, freshly laid eggs from the 'girls' in the morning!
