From the owner

Brynhyfryd Cottage is full of the quaint rural charm of a traditional Welsh cottage as well as being deceptively spacious. The cottage dates back to the early 1800s and was originally built for a farm worker and his family. The owners have taken great care to renovate the cottage to a very high standard by retaining many period features such as beams and original fireplace with bread oven, in keeping with it's age and history, giving it bags of character. It is situated on a quiet lane with very little traffic on the site of a mediaeval cross, hence it's original name of Croes meaning cross in Welsh. The famous Dolaucothi Goldmines built by the Romans is approximately half a mile away and the coastal towns of Aberaeron and Newquay are just a half hour's drive away via the university town of Lampeter

The ground floor is open-plan with comfortable sofa and chairs and dining area set around the cosy wood burning stove with a good supply of kiln-dried logs provided. The characterful kitchen is extremely well-equipped and the downstairs shower room is spacious and stylish, next to which is a large storage cupboard. Upstairs there is another storage cupboard on the landing with hanging space and the two attic bedrooms both have dormer windows.

PLEASE BE AWARE that due to the historic nature of the cottage, both bedrooms are in the eaves and ceiling heights are a little low although dormer windows have been installed - something to bear in mind if you are very tall. Outside there is a small private partly lawned cottage-style garden which is totally enclosed, raised decked area with garden furniture with views of the surrounding countryside, big skies and spectacular sunsets. There is also a brick-built barbecue with storage box containing barbecue equipment.

The cottage is pet-friendly and the owners are happy for up to 2 dogs to stay. Pets are not allowed on furniture or upstairs on beds. Guests should not leave their pets unattended in the property when they go out unless left in a cage for limited periods as long as they are already used to one at home.

All bed linen and towels are provided excluding cot bedding.

A complimentary hamper of Welsh goodies is also provided as well as a generous supply of bathroom and kitchen sundries including hand made Welsh soap.

The Brunant Arms in Caio village is within walking distance of the cottage and offers a lovely Sunday carvery as well as selected opening during the week. The award-winning Dolaucothi Arms pub and restaurant is in the nearby village of Pumsaint approximately a mile from the cottage .A list of recommended places to eat can be found in the Information Book.

Carmarthenshire and it's neighbouring county of Ceredigion have a multitude of visitor attractions to suit all tastes with breath taking scenery and spectacular coastlines to explore and more information about the area and events and activities can be found online.

    How do damage deposits work?

    In most cases, you don’t pay a damage deposit up front. Instead, we save your payment details securely and you’re only charged in the event of damage to the property.

    Occasionally, you will pay a damage deposit up front as part of the total rental cost. In this case, the owner has 10 days after you check out to report any damage. If they don’t, we’ll return your deposit. If their claim is successful, we’ll deduct the agreed cost and return the remainder.
