Location description from owner

Northern Ireland region

Royal County Down is one of the oldest and most renowned golf clubs in Ireland with traditions dating back for more than one hundred years. In 2007 the Walker Cup matches were held here. Situated in Newcastle, where in the immortal words of Percy French, 'The Mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea', Royal County Down is not only a fine test of golf but has accompanying scenery that is spellbinding.

Alongside the Championship Links, Royal County Down has a second course, The Annesley Links. Laid out beneath the same massive, almost menacing backdrop, the Annesley Links is nowhere near as intimidating or as formidable a challenge as the Championship Links, but then it was never intended to be. It is a course for everyone. (Extracts from the official Royal County Down Golf Course website). For further details tel: (028) 4372 3314

A short drive away will take you to the town of Castlewellan where you have access to any number of outdoor activities, golf, fishing, mountain climbing, canoeing, abseiling, sailing, mountain biking, tennis etc. Newcastle has a heated outdoor swimming pool during the summer months and lots of family activities during the holiday season.

Annalong

The Marine Park offers a unique combination of facilities to enable the visitor to have an unforgettable day out whatever the weather. Besides being able to launch a boat at all states of the tide, the visitor may also follow the Marine Park Trail, have a cuppa in the cafe (during summer months), picnic overlooking the harbour whilst keeping an eye on the children at play .

The village of Annalong can be easily reached over a footbridge, and one can also enjoy a stroll along the Mourne Coastal Path. Mourne country are exciting destinations in their own right. “Perfect to Explore the Mourne Country Mountains & Sea”

Reviewed 18 Aug 2016

Beautiful Cottage, really clean, all great amenities that you'd need, very accessible for all. Owner very easy to talk to, friendly & organised. We arrived with our two young children and they loved it. Great to have two bathrooms, especially with young children. Cottage is in a great area, easy enough to get to, very close to the coast, although I'd recommend driving down to it, only 5 minutes away. Cottage far enough away to feel peaceful, and the area around is very quiet, although there can be a bit of traffic, often tractors. We explored the local area from here, Newcastle, Annalong, Tollymore Forest Park etc. Obviously a car is ideal for this area, although the buses run from the main road and are quiet frequent into Newcastle and Kilkeel, more so during the summer months. All in all I'd thoroughly recommend this lovely cottage to anyone, sleeps about 7 so plenty of room.

“Beautiful cottage!!!”

I thouroughly enjoyed my stay in this beautiful cottage. The views of the mourne mountains are spectacular, and only a five minute walk to the beach!!! The shops are a short distance from the cottage as well which was very convienient. Plenty of space for me and the family :) Neighbours were very friendly as well.Had a great time.I will definately thinkl about coming here next time I come home from Austrailia.
