Location description from owner

The Algarve region

The Algarve is famous for its lovely sunny all-year round climate, with the Eastern Algarve benefitting from warmer conditions, given its closer proximty to the Meditteranean than the Atlantic Ocean.

The Algarve consists of three key regions. Western Algarve, closest to the Atlantic Ocean incorporates places such as Sagres, where the famous Beer of that name is made, together with many little fishing villages and sandy coves and beaches. Lagos is a beautiful little coastal town, bursting with life, restaurants, bars and bustling street activity - not to be missed!

In Central Algarve, you will discover more well known places such as Faro, Villamoura, Portimao and Albufuera - all within a 30 minute to a 1 hour drive of Tavira and all having their own Marinas, with the one at Villamoura a particular favourite of ours. Loule Market - a place to banter and bargain. Hunt in the colourful and bustling gypsy market of Loule, within 30 minutes of the Alto do Perogil. Chance to see traditional skills of Leather, Copperware and Lace. Also the largest fruit and vegetable market of the Algarve. There are a number of Water Parks for the children to enjoy in the Central Algarve area.

Closer to Tavira in the Eastern Algarve, we have Olhao famous for its fishing industry and Sea Food Festival in August each year. San Antonio and Villa Real are picturesque and interesting destinations to visit along the Spanish border to the east of Tavira, along with Monte Gordo, a favourite destination of the Portuguese holidaymaker.

From Tavira, visit the beautiful City of Seville, the Capital of Andalucia and probably Spain's lovliest city!
Visit Castro Marim, Santa Lucia, Cacela Velha and Cabanas - all having their own quaint but nevertheless individual personalities - all only a few kilometres away.

Fantastic Golf courses feature all across the Algarve region, rightly voted some of the Best in the World for the Holiday Golfer or Professional alike!

East Algarve

Tavira is a charming old town often known as the prettiest of the Algarve, with a long history, where time seems to have stood still. There are many small and intimate Portuguese and other restaurants / bars to explore as you stroll around the cobbled streets and riverfront. Freshly caught local fish - a speciality!

The lovely Nature Reserve of Ria Formosa is within only 8 kilometres for the Bird-Watching and Walking enthusiasts.

Traditional Horse-Drawn Carriage provides a different perspective of Historic Tavira.
Miniature Steam Train connects Tavira with outlying villages - a great way to see the town and it's surrounding areas!

37 Churches to see in Tavira and even a Castle to explore!

Golf courses at Benemar (18 holes), Quinta da Ria and Quinta do Cima (both 18 holes) and Colina Verde (9 holes) all within 8 KM of the property. Watch out for the new magnificent Jack Nicklaus golf complex at Monte Rei , opening Autumn 2006.

Locally, there is Tennis, Horse Riding, a Casino at Monte Gordo and even Bull-fighting from time to time!

“Wonderful, relaxing holiday.”

Reviewed 18 Sep 2016

Arrived in Faro in gorgeous sunny weather. 25 minutes transfer to this lovely villa close to Tavira town centre. Attractive development with shared pool right outside with some trees offering much needed shade. Well equipped kitchen, nice lounge and ideal roof terrace. Beautiful beaches in the area including Tavira (reached by ferry on the river in town) and Barril (narrow gauge railway). Several very nice meals in Tavira and surrounding area. There was a festival in progress on arrival with free concerts and many tents along the riverside selling local produce. There was a real buzz about the place. Thoroughly enjoyed our trip.

“The kids would have loved it as well”

Reviewed 14 Jul 2015

Beautiful house in a lovely quinta overlooking Tavira. Nice pool with shade and plenty of peace and quiet. Easy downhill walk into the incredible town of Tavira. Real old town Portugal with authentic bars, restaurants and shops. Great beaches only 10 minutes drive, 5 euro taxi or a few minutes on the ferry from centre of town. We'll be back...with the kids!

“Nice Villa - Convenient Location”

Reviewed 12 Nov 2014

Have recently returned from a week stay in this lovely Villa which is located near the Town of Tavira. It is conveniently located a minute or so away from the N125 which gives easy access to explore the beautiful beaches of the Eastern Algarve. The Villa has a nice roof terrace and also shares a pool with several others. However when we were there we were the only ones using the sizeable pool. The Villa is well equipped and has plenty of good quality sun beds. Booking was easy and the owner Garry dealt with all queries promptly. My security deposit was returned straight away. Overall a good holiday rent.

“It did exactly what it said on the tin”

Reviewed 7 Nov 2014

Really enjoyed our stay. The villa was well suited to our needs, and met with our expectations. Weather was great which obviously helped and we returned home rested and content. (to a rainy windy Manchester). Tavira is a real nice town and suited our requirements for exploring and eating out exceptionally well indeed. If you need to go further afield a car is recommended. We stayed local and walked down the lane to town (15-20 mins max) and back. Public transport train/bus is good and gave us a chance to visit a little of the area. Thanks to Garry and Beverly for making all of the arrangements trouble free.

“Good quiet location”

Reviewed 18 Sep 2014

The property is in a good location with views from the pool to the surrounding hills. It is about a 20 minute walk into Tavira (downhill and we got a taxi back). The property itself is a good size for four, but I think would be a squeeze for 6, and would be unsuitable for those with mobility problems. We had a couple of issues which were dealt with promptly and efficiently by Gary and Jan who looked after the villa. The cooker and pots and pans were a bit tired (maybe due to it being towards the end of the season)m but overall a good base for exploring the Eastern Algarve

We are grateful for the positive comments about our villa and Tavira. We noted the criticism about the pots, pans and cooker and will seek to take action to rectify these issues during late 2014 and early 2015. We have already replaced many kitchen items and cooking utensils, and we shall take a look at the cooker in due course. During further 2015 refurbishment, we will replace the settees and many other assets within the villa, in order to ensure a first class holiday experience for our guests. Regards Garry & Beverley Winfield

“A lovely house in a lovely town”

Reviewed 21 Aug 2014

We were very pleased with the house and pool/garden - the 1st floor terrace was perfect for quiet reading and our family meals. Tavira surprised us by it's history and beautiful old buildings - the choice of places to eat is amazing We mainly drove into town as parking near the Blue bridge is very convenient - the walk there being almost half an hour. .

“Beautiful villa in a beautiful location”

Reviewed 24 Jan 2014

We had a fabulous holiday in your villa in Tavira, and would love to return in the not too distant future. The large pool and pretty gardens were as you had said – excellent. All the facilities and comforts in the villa were of a high order and we particularly enjoyed the views of the hills and sea from the first floor balcony. Eating lunch and dinner out there was a real treat. We loved the walks into town, the bustle of the place in June and the great weather, bars, restaurants and bistros of Tavira. The beaches are out of this world

“Holiday in Tavira”

Reviewed 28 Aug 2013

We stayed in a fab villa just outside Tavira. We all really enjoyed this holiday! Pool was great and villa had absolutely everything you could possibly need. We walked into Tavira everynight down a gorgeous wee lane and got a taxi home each night which was very cheap. Loved Tavira and the buzz about the place! Found some great restaurants that we will return to one day! Great holiday had by all!

“Perfect for golfers and families alike”

Reviewed 10 Feb 2013

Went on a golfing trip with friends and it ticked all the right boxes: short drive to golf; can walk downhill into Tavira (medieval streets next to river with great choice of bars and restaurants); beautiful views over local countryside; private balcony for sunbathing; shared pool with big grassy area. Planning to go back with the family who will love the local beaches though will need to use a car (or local taxis) to get there.

“Fabulous accommodation and location”

Reviewed 23 Dec 2012

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay, the accommodation has everything needed for a fantastic home from home experience. The location is very peaceful with magnificent views and a short drive will take you into Tavera, an unspoilt, traditional Portugese town. We also walked there on several occasions, taking around 20 minutes, and there is a great choice of coffee shops, bars and restaurants. It is not necessary to hire a car however we did and discovered beautiful sandy beaches and places of interest within easy reach.
