About the home

Villa Metochi is a magnificent house built with great care and personal work. It is situated on a 2500sqm of gated, private land with lush gardens and fabulous views to the sea and hills. It is ideal for sun lovers. The house has sunshine for the whole day and there are plenty of shaded areas, large terraces and verandas for relaxing. Guests of Villa Metochi are ensured exceptional comfort and pampering during their stay, as it is very well situated in a beautiful and tranquil area near the town of Rethimno.

Villa Metochi consists of a main house (90m2) which can host up to 4 persons and a new-built studio (40m2), fully equipped and furnished, ideal for 2-3 persons. The reservation is always made for the main house, while the studio is for supplementary use only and we don't let it separately. The main house has 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a spacious livingroom and an open plan kitchen.

Nearest shops, tavernas and beach are located 2,5km away. Car is needed. There are many great attractions nearby, including Rethimno's old town, the Venetian Fortezza, the Venetian harbour, the Sacred Monastery of Arcadi, the Village of Margarites and the Village of Eleftherna. The area of Chania and the southern part of Crete are also worth visiting. The beaches of Preveli, Triopetra, Ligres and Rodakino are of exceptional beauty (southen part of the prefecture of Rethimno).

Givera Villas (Villa Givera and Villa Metochi) is a family business which started by Mr. George Kazilas when he built two villas with great care and personal work. Its goal was to keep the Cretan heritage and tradition and be able to spread it by letting other people experience the area, landscape, agriculture and way of Cretan life. Today the Kazilas Family may promise that after all those years of experience could offer high quality holidays and an experience you usually don't get when tourist.

The Crete region

Crete is the largest island in Greece - the fifth largest in the Mediterranean - and, within its diverse area of more than 8,000 square kilometers, there are many jewels just waiting to be discovered by the more adventurous explorers of holiday treasures. It has an exquisite 1,000 kilometer-long coastline dotted with numerous coves, bays and peninsulas, which afford a multitude of soft, sandy beaches along the beautifully blue Mediterranean Sea.

And, of course, the island's historic importance in today's world as the home of the Minoan civilization with important archeological finds at Knossos, Phaistos and Gortys, is evidenced by the tens of thousands of visitors to these sites each year.

The Rethymno / Rizvan Metochi area

Rethimno lies along the north coast, having to the east one of the largest sand beaches in Crete (12 km) and to the west a rocky coastline that ends up to another large sand beach after 10 km. It is the administrative, communications and commercial center of the Prefecture with approximately 25.000 inhabitants. The town still maintains its old aristocratic appearance, with its buildings dating from the 16th century, arched doorways, stone staircases, Byzantine and Hellenic-Roman remains, small Venetian harbor and narrow streets.

The most important event constitutes the Renaissance Festival, which is organised each summer since 1987, in order to revive both the Cretan and the European Renaissance. Most of the events take place in the theatre “Erofili”, which is situated on the hill of the Fortress. To walk on the path, which is paved with cobblestone, uphill to the “Fortezza” on a summer evening and to live the delightful moments of a theatre, dancing or music performance is a blissful experience.

“A beautiful place to stay” Nice place to stay. Beautiful big garden with a lot of shadow. Pool cleaned every day. House very comfortable and clean. Ideal position, close to everything. I would definitely return.

“Excellent stay at an excellent location” This is an amazing villa! I stayed there for 10 days with my family. The house is located in a lovely and peaceful area, but close to shops, tavernas and beach. The villa was even nicer than the photos and this was a great surprice for us. We received a fantastic hospitality as the owner (Marina) was very helpful and around at any time we needed anything. Our kids enjoyed playing in the swimming pool and around the gardens, but what I loved most with my husband is sitting in the veranda and hearing the sounds of the Cretan nature. It was just what we were looking for! I am and will recommend this place to everybody!! I only wish one day I can return.
