The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region

This beautiful and sophisticated bougainvillea-covered harbour village is set in a breathtaking landscape in the heart of the old Lycian region. The ancient sites of Xanthos, Letoon, Pinara, Tlos and Patara are all close by, with Kekova, Demre, Myra, Phaselis, Olympos and Aspendos slightly further away, but all easily accessible.
Strict conservation laws have ensured that the heart of the village retains an authentic ambience. Winding cobbled streets, colourful local shops and excellent harbour-side or roof terrace restaurants and bars are combined with stunning views - whether you are looking up to the dramatic mountains behind the village, or down across the harbour to the broad sweep of the Mediterranean.
The many roof terraces are a highlight of the evenings, a time when Kalkan is at her significant best. You can dine by candlelight to the strains of jazz or classical music whilst admiring the beautiful views across the tiled rooftops to the harbour and out to sea - a truly unforgettable experience.
The standard of dining in Kalkan is a wonderful surprise. With restaurant ownership shared between locals and Turks from Istanbul, a wider variation of Mediterranean cuisine is offered than perhaps might be expected from a Turkish village of this size. Certainly, the range and style of cuisine on offer exceeds what is generally available throughout coastal Turkey.
Due to the type of visitor that Kalkan attracts there have been continuing gastronomic improvements, especially at the higher end of the market. This has resulted in an eclectic selection of restaurants that provide good value for all tastes.
Swimming opportunities abound. The village pebble beach has been carefully and attractively extended. There are stunning beaches in the immediate vicinity, with Patara Beach being one. Patara is a 20-minute journey, and is regularly featured as one of the Mediterranean's most beautiful and undiscovered beaches. Comprising eighteen kilometres of sand without a single building. (Except one restaurant on the beach which is open all day and has all the facilities needed to spend the whole day at the beach).
The dramatic Kaputas beach is a 5 minute journey from Kalkan. It is a beautiful sandy beach found at the foot of a ravine down many steps.
Several beach clubs complete the swimming options available in Kalkan. Accessible by water taxi, taxi or on foot, these clubs are much more than simply platforms cut into the cliff side - they provide a scenically stunning setting and a peaceful haven in which to relax by the water's edge listening to the sounds of the sea and, occasionally, tasteful background music.
The swimming at the beach clubs is fabulous, with access steps leading directly from the rocks into the clear clean waters of the bay, some parts of which are freshened by several natural underground springs. Most of the clubs also provide water sports for the more active.
With so much of interest in the surrounding regions and the village itself, Kalkan is a destination that encourages guests to return time and time again. Whether your interests are historical, cultural, or you just wish for the most relaxing holiday in the most beautiful, Kalkan is sure to satisfy.
Kalkan has managed to retain that most elusive of mixtures - an authentic ambience with the relative sophistication that makes it an unusual, charming, picturesque and uniquely welcoming destination.

We have just returned from a fantastic week at Villa Kirmizi Lale in Kalkan. The Villa was most comfortable with everything supplied making it a real home from home. The pool was kept in tip top condition by Yusuf and Muhammet who kept us informed of what to do and where to go helping to make this - our first visit to Turkey so memorable. We definitely hope to return! |

We had a wonderful stay at the villa Kirmizi lale. A nicely appointed property with a lovely interior, good pool, attractive gardens and within easy walking distance of Kalkan centre. We were well looked after from start to finish. |
Guestbook for Villa Kirmizi Lale
“We have just returned from the most wonderful week in Villa Kirmizi Lale. The villa has the most stunning views of Kalkan and the harbour from both balconies and the patio. The pool was immaculate and lovely to dip into for a cooling swim before breakfast or after a day out.
Everything you could wish for was provided in the villa including free Internet connection.
Yusuf and Muhammet provided us with all the information we needed for shopping, days out etc and with much laughter during our stay.We were so sad to leave such a beautiful place and can't wait to return.Thank you Felicity for the use of your lovely Villa.”

“A fabulous family holiday - we had a great stay. There were 8 of us and we never felt like we were cramped for space. The villa is very well equipped for a relaxing stay and it was tempting to just to hang out there all day. We can't wait to go back again!!"
Mogose, Crowthorne, May 2011
"Thanks Felicity for the use of your lovely villa. The main selling point for us was the location which was perfect, a short walk into town but far enough back for great views. Loved the pool area and evenings watching the sunsets from the top seating area were all exactly as described. I would recommend this villa especially to families as the space it affords and location make it a must to consider in Kalkan, where so many villas are really quite inaccessible...."
Price, London, October 2010
"Villa Kirmizi Lale is a beautifully appointed and well maintained villa overlooking the bay in Kalkan and catered for all our needs, even for up to 10 people. The friendly pool-man - Yusuf - kept the pool sparkling clean throughout the day and answered all our questions about the area. So enjoyable was the holiday, and in particular, Villa Kirmizi Lale, that we have re-booked to go back again in September!" - Chris Hughes, Crowthorne, Berkshire, May 2007
Fantastic easy living in your lovely villa. A perfect holiday for us all - we intend to return and with many other groups of friends and family. Great!' - Sue Drake, Moretonhampstead, Devon, September 2006
"Thanks for a great 2 weeks. The condition of the villa is immaculate with great attention to detail and comfort and the pool and patio facilities are excellent and kept very clean - everything that you could possibly want is here."
