The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
Kalkan is situated on the Mediterranean coast and its location offers an enviable diversity and contrast of landscapes to explore. From the warm turquoise waters of the Mediterranean to the mountainous, dramatic landscapes inland. Within the area you have choices to suit everyone, white sandy beaches, traditional mountain villages, pine forests, impressive historical sites which include amphitheatres, tombs and sunken cities, stunning gorges and snow capped mountains. If that wasn't enough the region offers warm weather and sunshine for most of the year.
Kalkan is an old fishing port sitting at the bottom of the Taurus mountains that over recent years has transformed into a sophisticated holiday destination yet has still managed to retain its charm and beauty. The Old Town contains alleyways and small cobbled streets leading down to the harbour. Restaurants and shops are often contained within original buildings therefore preserving its architectural integrity.
Within Kalkan there are a number of beach clubs which offer swimming, sunbathing, watersports and restaurant/bar facilities. There are also watersport facilities available including paragliding, jet skis and water skiing. Scuba diving is also available, useful contact www.kalkandiving.com
Kalkan is ideally situated to explore further afield. 15 minutes away is the impressive Patara beach, one of the longest beaches in Europe. Kalkan is also surrounded by a selection of wonderfully preserved historical sites including Xanthos, Patara, Tlos and Pinara, slightly further afield are the sites of Kekova and Myra. Approximately half an hour away is the famous Saklikent Gorge. There are also many nearby mountain villages worth a visit including nearby Islamlar which is famous for its fresh trout restaurants.
Villa Mayis is located in the Kiziltas area of Kalkan. Kiziltas is situated on the hillside looking down on Kalkan Town with the impressive Taurus mountains acting as its backdrop. Its location offers stunning panoramic views of Kalkan Bay, peace, privacy and lovely cooling summer breezes.

"Proper Home-from-Home in the sun - Kalkan and Villa Mayis perfect"
Great house, home and gardens - shame the figs, avocados, pomegranates and apricots weren't ready, but Rustem really looks after the pool, and gardens. 20 min walk down to town - loads of cheap taxis back if you choose, but we hired scooters from PARS - ideal for nipping in and out daytimes and evenings. Pool and loungers all you want and need for long hot days lazing in 37 deg of sun. Kitchen has everything you want, icluding a water cooler, and bar-b-que's on the terrace for the evening lamb-fix. Lounge TV/DVD nice and cool for hiding in the shade, and WI-FI perfect for those with pads etc. All in all, a great choice - such a wonderful villa in the sun - thanks Georgina for sharing your home with us - top notch !

"Family holiday, home from home ... only better!"
We had never been to Turkey before but had read such fabulous reviews about Kalkan that we felt we should try it before it becomes too popular and booked Villa Mayis largely on the basis of the graduated pool for our nervous 7year old (this is a difficult feature to find in the area).
We prefer self-catering holidays and have stayed with our two children in many villas across southern Europe but Villa Mayis was definitely one of the best. It is well equipped and maintained; it is presented to a comfortable high standard and felt like home very quickly. The owner, Georgina, is so warm and welcoming with lots of useful tips and advice on the area.
The view is breathtaking by day and especially beautiful at night with the moon over the bay. There is ample room for children to play, both near the pool and to the front of the villa so we didn't feel pressured to get up and go out every day to find space. Obviously in August it is very hot but we were happy to spend several days just playing in and around the pool. We visited some of the beautiful beaches and beach clubs nearby and chartered a boat for a day to go fishing and snorkelling.
Villa Mayis is just a few minutes by car from the town, but far enough to be quiet and peaceful without feeling cut off. I am almost reluctant to say how wonderful it is because we want to keep it as a secret place to go.

"Nothing is perfect but, Villa Mayis comes close!"
July, in Kalkan, is notorious for its heat but, high above the town, Villa Mayis offers relief in the way of breezes, air-con, and a cool pool to hang out around. Dining outside, enjoying the splendid view and the peace afforded by the location, you could be forgiven for wanting to stay there for longer than you had planned. Georgina, its friendly and thoughtful owner, went out of her way to ensure our comfort. Having a car is essential (though taxis are available) for those trips to the local markets. One week was definitely too short!

"Lovely villa - Villa Mayis"
We really had a wonderfull time during our stay at Villa Mayis. Everything was almost perfect. Pool, nicely designed garden and many different colorful flowers. While having sunbath we had the wonderfull view of Kalkan, sea and small islands.
We also visit many natural and turistic places during our stay such as Saklikent Hidden Canyon, Xhantos, Patara Beach.. I hope we will visit the rest of the places close to Kalkan area during our next visit.
Thank you again Georgina for your hospitality and everything..

"Great family villa, with pool suitable for children in an excellent location."
Georgina, the owner, was exceptionally helpful before and during the stay - nothing was too much trouble. She met us late at night to handover keys and show us around and then popped back the next day to take us down into Kalkan and help us get oriented. She also provided a welcome pack of some essential food and drink items.
The villa is located on a hillside overlooking the town and harbour of Kalkan. It was lovely sitting on the terrace for breakfast, lunch, etc and looking out to sea. The villa was clean and well decorated throughout with great facilities such as air conditioning and a water cooler in the kitchen. The swimming pool is ideal for families and was one of the main reasons we initially chose the villa in that the pool has steps and the depth is graduated from a shallow to a deep end (most pools in the area seem to be constant depth and not really suitable for younger children).
The villa has a garden with a number of fruit trees (figs, pomegranates, etc). Georgina was happy for us to sample the fruits available. It was good to be able to eat fresh fruit straight from the tree - we'd never get figs this fresh in England!
Georgina provided some really useful advice on car hire - the car hire company she recommended picked us up from airport and took us direct to the villa in the car we hired....It was a late night flight and it it took the stress out of the journey....at the end of the holiday they then picked us up and took us back to the airport. I would definitely recommend this option if you want a hire car but are worried about navigating from the airport to the villa.
We really enjoyed our stay at Villa Mayis and would thoroughly recommend this villa for families with young children wishing to stay in Kalkan.
