Foxglove Cottage in Derbyshire

Cottage | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 4

Key Info
  • Great for children of all ages
  • Some pets are welcome - please contact the owner
  • Private garden
  • Car essential

Foxglove Cottage is full of character and is furnished and equipped to a high standard whilst retaining many original features. Foxglove sleeps four but we've discovered that it is a particular favourite with couples.

This 4 star stone cottage is on a quiet, private lane in a small farming village on the eastern side of the Peak District. Step outside and enjoy the fabulous views towards Hardwick Hall. Try one of several recommended walks around the village – we provide guests with bespoke walks from the doorstep together with a selection of maps and guide books.

There is an open log fire – wonderful on a chilly evening - and we'll provide you with an initial supply of logs and coal free of charge. In the summer months we think you'll enjoy spending time in the private garden overlooking open fields.

We've just had a fabulous new kitchen installed in Foxglove Cottage in time for Christmas 2013 complete with a dishwasher. Check out our updated photos to see the finished result.

Further details

Bookings are made directly with the owners - we don't use booking agents so you won't be charged an agency fee. Booking is really easy. Choose which dates you want then email, phone or text us. We'll get back to you quickly - within 2 hours is our target.

Weekly bookings generally run from Saturday to Saturday during the summer. Short breaks of three nights usually run from Friday to Monday and if you book a four-night short break from Monday to Friday you get four nights for the same price as a three-night weekend break. Outside of the peak summer holidays weekly bookings can also start on Mondays or Fridays. We ask for a deposit on booking with the balance six weeks before your holiday starts.

It is always worth contacting us if your requirements are different from this, particularly for late bookings or during the winter. We try to be as flexible as possible about start dates. If you would like any other information about Foxglove Cottage or the surrounding area please get in touch - we'll be happy to help you arrange the perfect holiday or short break.

We place a high priority on cleanliness and presentation – before you arrive the cottage will have been thoroughly cleaned and prepared for you. If you need any assistance during your stay there will be someone available to help you nearby. On the other hand if you'd prefer to be left alone to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of our lovely area then you'll also find this an ideal place to spend your holiday.

The Heart of England/Peak District

The Peak District National Park covers 500 square miles across several counties and attracts visitors from around the world. Derbyshire is famous for its natural beauty from peaks and dales to picturesque villages. It really does have something for everyone – for the more energetic there is fantastic walking, sailing and climbing. It has more historic houses than you can shake a stick at – Chatsworth House (7 miles from here), Hardwick Hall (6 miles away) and Bolsover Castle to name just a few. Explore caves and caverns, visit a theme park, soar skywards in a cable car or ride on a vintage tram. Or why not simply wander around our many pretty towns and villages. Our visitors often comment on how centrally located our cottages are for reaching the many attractions of Derbyshire and the Peak District so it's no wonder many of them come back time and time again.

Alton is a small and welcoming farming village of around thirty stone cottages. A short stroll of less than half a mile takes you to the Fabrick Rock – also known as the Ashover Rock. This is 299 metres above sea level and, on clear days, offers spectacular views of Derbyshire and across five other counties: Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Staffordshire. Look for the stone steps carved into the hillside next to it and follow the public footpath to Ashover. Why not take a picnic and just enjoy the views.

If you like horse-riding or would you like to learn please visit Alton Riding School which is a few hundred metres from the cottages.

Alton is too small for a pub or a shop but several can be found in Ashover a mile away by road but closer if you go on foot cross-country following one of several footpaths down the hill. Ashover is frequently described as one of the prettiest villages in Derbyshire and it hosts a famous traditional country show on the 2nd Wednesday in August every year.

Chesterfield is 5 miles from here and is famous for its outdoor market and for the ‘Crooked Spire’ church of St Mary and All Saints, built in the 13th century. Please visit our website to discover more about local attractions and events.
