The Cumbria/Lake District
The Lake District is world renowned for its spectacular scenery of beautiful clear-water lakes, impressive mountains and open fells - all to be enjoyed whatever the season. Walking is one of the best ways of exploring the Lake District.; from gentle strolls along the shores of the many lakes or through fields and woodland to the more strenuous climbs of the lofty mountains of Skiddaw, Scafell and Helvellyn.
The Northern Lakes covers one half of the Lake District National Park and is the perfect area to choose for either gentle relaxation or for an action packed family adventure holiday with lots of things to do - from bike hire to paragliding lessons, there is something for everyone.
Just a 20 minute drive from the cottage takes you to Derwentwater where you can take a leisurely cruise around the lake or if you're feeling more energetic hire a canoe or book some sailing lessons. Closer still is Bassenthwaite Lake.
The nearby market towns of Cockermouth and Keswick offer a range of shops, galleries, museums and restaurants to enjoy. Many establishments now source their ingredients from local producers and give the opportunity to sample the delights of Cumbrian fare. Keswick even has its own theatre which offers a summer season of six eclectic plays - all of which can be seen in one week. Throughout the year there are many different festivals to be enjoyed from Coniston Water Festival to the Georgian Fair in Cockermouth.
Not only does Cumbria offer its magnificent landscapes but also offers a wide variety of places to visit such as Holker Hall with its beautiful gardens and Lakeland Motor Museum, Muncaster Castle with its World Owl Centre, Hill Top Farm, the home of Beatrix Potter, Trotters World of Animals and the South Lakeland Zoo are just a few.
The cottage is also well located to enjoy the unspoilt Solway Coast - Allonby, just 15 mins is a lovely quiet seaside village with a beautiful green and vast shingle beach. A little further is the Georgian town of Whitehaven, with its annual Maritime Fest, host to visits from Tall Ships and the starting point of the popular 140 mile long C2C Cycle Route.
Baggrow is a rural hamlet about 5 miles from the Lake District National Park. It offers a haven of peace and quiet and complete relaxation away from the hustle and bustle of every day life. There is a local village pub, but if it is a meal that you want, you will need to go a bit further to the pub in the next village, 3 miles away.
Nearby there is golf, horse-riding and fishing.
Just 10 minutes away is Bassenthwaite Lake which is one of the largest lakes in the Lake District. The Bassenthwaite area is home to the Osprey with view points at Dodd Wood. In addition, there are also the attractions of Trotters World of Animals and the historic Mirehouse with its gardens stretching from Dodd Wood to the shores of the Lake. This area is the perfect location to enjoy the beauty of the Lake district whilst avoiding the busier hotspots of the central Lakes.
Baggrow is also within a 20 min drive from the market towns of Cockermouth and Keswick as well as the beautiful Solway Coast. In less than one hour you can reach the popular central Lake District locations of Ambleside, Grasmere and Bowness on Windermere or travel north to city of Carlisle with its castle and shopping centre..

"Clean, well furnished lovely location"
This is the first time we have booked a cottage holiday so we were not sure what to expect.
Upon arrival a bottle of wine and biscuits had been left for us. Looking around we found that the kitchen was very well equipped with everything you could possibly need. The cottage was very clean. The owners take huge pride in the cottage and I have found out they travel from their home to clean it themselves.
The furnishings in the cottage are beautiful. Lovely oak furniture and comfy beds. The views to the rear of the cottage are very nice and we even did some walking around the local area which is pleasent. The cottage had lots of maps available for walks as well as games / books / DVD's.
Margaret the owner was very informative and quick to respond to all of our questions and even advised us where shops were etc.
We have never booked the same holiday location twice before but this is a first as we have booked to go back to the cottage next year and can't wait.
A great price for a lovely cottage and very helpful owners.

The cottage had everything we needed for our stay and felt like a home-from-home. Tastfully decorated with all mod-cons and a fantastic view from the rear of the cottage. The owners did everything they could to accomodate us and our baby making sure we had everything we needed for our stay. They neighbours were lovely and very friendly. Lots of information in the cottage about places to visit in the local area. It was our first holiday with our 9 month old baby and was very special spending it here.

"The best holiday rental we have ever stayed in."
This is a beautiful terraced cottage renovated to a high standard with many personal touches. We visited in January and the central heating made it very cosy. There are lovely views of Skiddaw which change every day with the weather. Baggrow is a very quiet little village with a pub but doesn't have a shop although the small village of Aspatria, which is 3 miles, away has a Co-op and Spa. If you want a quiet break, away from it all, this is the place for you.

"Delightful little cottage that has everything you need"
Little Byre is a pretty little cottage in a pretty Cumbrian village. It is beautifully furnished and very clean and the owners have obviously put a lot of thought and effort into making guests feel welcome. It had everything we needed - from a lovely welcome basket, down to toys, books and videos for our 3-year-old, who loved every minute of our stay in "the pink house." (Little Byre is, indeed, pink!) It is a little out of the way, but the quiet countryside views make up for it, and it is close enough to Keswick in one direction and Carlisle in the other so that it didn't affect us significantly. It is very competitively priced for the quality of its fixtures and proximity to the Lake District, and I struggled to find anything of better value in that area. It is probably worth mentioning that parking is on the street in front of the cottage. We never had any problems in a mid sized estate car, but if you intend to park a truck out there, it might be a little troublesome. To sum it all up, if you are a couple or small family looking for a "get away from it all" holiday, this cottage could very well be the one for you.

"A lovely hideaway at the top end of the Lake District"
My wife and I plus 8 month old baby son had a lovely relaxing time in July of this year. The Cottage is extrmemly well furnished and equiped and Margaret the owner can help with setting up the place and any bespoke questions you may have.
The Kitchen has everything and both bedrooms are laid out lovely and welcoming!
The cottage terrace is 20 mintues from Cockermouth and 30 minutes from Keswick. It is also only half an hour to the nearest sandy beach.
We only ventured out 4 of the 6 days we were there as we found the lounge very cosy and comfortable.
All in all a very good base to explore the Lakes.
