LA VECCHIA LEGNAIA
Living in the Garden

If you are looking for luxurious accommodation La Vecchia Legnaia is not for you, but if you wish for somewhere more basic, situated among lemon trees in a garden, with the owner's family as most hospitable neighbours, I highly recommend La Vecchia.Legnaia It is situated on a side street in Scauri with shops, restaurants, beach and railway station within 10 minutes walk. We used Scauri as a base to travel to Cassino,Naples and Gaeta. June 2011 was our second holiday at La Vecchia Legnia, and a return in the future is not ruled out. CASA FILOMENA - Charming accomodation in a lovely sea town
Comfortable accomodation in a lovely spot

Casa Filomena has everything you need for a pleasant stay in Scauri. There's plenty of room, air conditioning/heating and a very nice rustic garden to enjoy. There's a beautiful cove and beach a very pleasant short walk away and on the way to it there is a very nice bar/restaurant whilst at the beach itself there's another bar - which is just what you need on a hot day! The centre of Scauri is about a twenty minute walk from the house and the railway station is about thirty minutes walk - there are local buses, but finding information about which route goes where and when they leave is not easy, but if you can figure out the buses, it will save your legs! There are bus stops about five or ten minutes walk away. You can also get (Cotral) buses to other towns in the area including Gaeta and Formia. Although there is a taxi rank on the main street - Via Appia - we never saw a taxi. Fortunately, there is a supermarket about ten minutes walk from the house. If you are driving then distance is not a problem and the house does have a parking area. The only real down-side for us were some dogs which would bark at all times day and night - maybe because they were new and hadn't settled in, hopefully, they will have quietened down now. This was our second stay in Scauri. We stopped at Gennaro's other property (La vecchia Legnaia) last time and we were going to stop there again, but some alterations were being done so Gennaro offered Casa Filomena to us, which we gladly accepted. Scauri is an excellent base for visiting places in Lazio and Campagna. It's easy and cheap to get to Rome, Naples, Pompei and Herculaneum by train and from Formia you can get a ferry to the island of Ponza - highly recomended. We went from Formia and stayed the night on Ponza, returning the next day via Terracina. Scauri itself has plenty of shops, bars and nice beaches. But if you're staying out of season, some bars etc. on the sea front may not be open; the same can be said for the tourist information office which we found open once - the day before we left for home! We will probably be back to Scauri next year and we will rent from Gennaro again. We know we'll be made welcome as will anyone else who meets the Ripa family. … see more
